When they earn the chance, yes. That is their responsibility, not United’s. We don’t have to create some mythical ‘Yellow Brick Road for Kids’.

As a matter of interest, how many chances should we be prepared to give to how many kids? At the expense of how many points? Calamity George would be a good starting point.

At a time (and such times are historically rare)when we have a very good team, do we really want to disrupt that which is going well, by shoehorning youngsters in forrarun in the name of boyband parochialism? To what point or purpose?

Absolutely not which is why I congratulated your later post that being local shouldn’t trump being excellent. But what I would like (and I think we do this to an extent) is to be wary of stockpiling experienced pros to cover to the nth degree. In the summer, I hoped that we wouldn’t retain Jay O Shea for example because I knew he would never be any more than an average squad player at this level. Having David Brooks as 3rd choice for the number 10 position behind Duffy and Carruthers made more sense to me. 2 trusted, sound players who can play the position well and a kid, untested at senior level but who has impressed at U23 level and seeking the next step on the ladder. I think it would be almost unanimous now that Brooks is better than O Shea but had O Shea remained, would Brooks have had the chance? Would he have gone on loan instead?

It’s a very fine balancing act and I’m certainly not saying we should persevere with kids who aren’t good enough but at the same time, if we congest the squad too much with “squad players” there can be a temptation to rely on them over a promising but largely untested young player who might well turn out to be better (as the Brooks/ O Shea comparison highlights).

That’s because he’s not as good as you thought. In fact, he’s not very good at all. He’s mediocre at best, like the vast majority of Bladey Boyband favourites.

Seems to be the case. Or…. It could be that he hasn’t improved as much as I would expect him to over the last 3 years. It’s often the way with young players. They demonstrate potential at a young age bot of course they need to keep improving to be the player that many think they could be. Jonathan Forte looked an absolute world-beater for England schoolboys. Unfortunately, at 27-28 years old, his decision making, finishing, positioning etc. hadn’t improved from school boy level.

Why haven't people just started ignoring Pinchy yet like we have done to other thread-killing forum trolls to get them to fuck off.
Don't feed the troll...

Because he’s an insightful, articulate, amusing poster who offers plenty to the forum.

Yes he can be a naughty boy at times but overall, his contributions improve the forum. When he gets down to an actual discussion and offers his real opinions rather than the clichéd, coined, derogatory nicknames (bladey boybanders, runaround Done, no goals Nick, Little Louis, owdmuchanettlesnowtfancy Morgs etc.), you’ll find that he actually has a very sensible, well reasoned view of the game and most things United related.

Pinchy in behaving like a bell end shocker.

To be fair he's having some of you on toast.

The Pinchy X1

3) Runaround Done
4) The Traffic Cone
5) Nowt Fancy/Muckanettles
6) The Everton Player
7) Elpiton
8) Little Louis
9) Local Joe
10)No Goals Nick
11) De Juve

Because:

I know what I’m talking about; challenge those who offer nothing but drivel; encourage common sense; support my football club fervently as I have for over fifty years; dare to lift my head beyond the wall at the end of Shoreham Street; love proper football.

I don’t:

Cap-doff other clubs whilst denigrating our own; ludicrously elevate players beyond their worth solely because of their place of birth; pretend our fans are the best in the land when a fair proportion are self-entitled, ignorant gobshites; spend other people’s money; wish upon a star.

I do a tough job on here, work hard and give great value for no remuneration whatsoever, never complain and this is the thanks I get...
Dude you are on a forum offering opinions about Football. There are no medals.

Oh dear, same old self important crap.

Pinchy on Adkins....

"Only in S2 would the fans even contemplate getting rid of a manager of NA's proven record of both achievement and performance after less than a season.

On the proposed appointment of Wilder.

It might be for silly Bladey Blades. The rest of the football community would look at his CV and beg to differ.

Nonentity. Fucking Bladey Bladey Nonentity. Read and learn.

He wouldn't get a mention if he had no United connections. He's a complete nonentity."

Imagine if the club had followed your sage pontifications.

Read and learn eh.......:)

Sorry to repeat a previous post but it puts in context some of the self righteous crap he spouts.
:D:p:D

Happy to clarify. Doesn't matter at all to me where they were born nor bred. If I've given that impression, I'll apologise. And I'm correcting now. Will the Bladey Tribute Act accept that?

I never ask for apologies mate, and rarely offer them. You did suggest otherwise in a previous post, I believe. You’re entitled to that view. I think it’s bonkers.

That is not my view. I must have misposted. I can understand how & why the Bladey Tribute Act would not share that view, that I don't have. I believe it is possible for apologies to be offered without them being asked for. I'm sorry to have mislead. I agree it would be bonkers if there was some requirement or wish for all, a majority, or some quota of our players to come from a particular geographical area. I feel I'm putting my view on that pretty clearly.

Well you certainly don’t need to apologise to me. You have made your view perfectly clear.

The problem is 1DW when you (him not you...) come across as a bit of a cock any valid point is lost in sarcasm abuse and belittling of posters who don't share that viewpoint. I personally don't think it adds to a thread it simply diminishes it in my opinion. Just being correct (or not) does not excuse it. Of course this is a football forum and not real life but it does get tiresome. We can all be nobs at times (I know I can) but I don't constantly endeavour to belittle or put down other poster and players. Just my two penneth.

Very kind. You have been a credit to the forum since your arrival. One of maybe a dozen (or a few more to be fair) on here with whom I can have a common sense conversation, agree or disagree, sometimes robustly, maybe even pause and think again.

Your bollocks/drivel ratio must be very low, that’s all I can say.

The point you miss is that not all debates are finely balanced. As in life, so in football, some opinions are so close to inarguable as to amount to a distinction without a difference.

There comes a time when you’ve advanced a compelling argument upon deaf ears so often that there is no point in repeating the detail, so you simply utilise the shorthand.

If, for example, you’ve ever tried to engage an EDL amoeba in intelligent argument, you’ll ultimately end up simply labelling him or her a racist idiot or you’ll be there all day when you’ve more useful things to do.

The thing that surprises me about these fans who cannot imagine a 'Pathway' is their blindness to the fact that as little as 2 months ago they would have laughed at anybody who might have suggested Brooks would be MOM in the Sheffield Derby. No lessons learned.

Oh, how they laughed...;)

Brooksy mixed the cement himself and laid the paving slabs. All excellent players do. Footballers, like water, find their own level. For some it’s the Yellow Brick Road; for others a walk down Fargate. Sadly, for the vast majority, it’s an unadopted dirt track.

True. It was clear to me eighteen months ago, that young David was a highly skilled young apprentice who'd no doubt become an excellent tradesman. To some derision.I see his rise to prominence being akin to night following day.

"Little Louis" is bigger than the giant of a footballer John Fleck. Not if you haven't even seen him for 2 years though.

Simple reason is Fleck's stopped growing.;)

Yes. I take your point, his manner with other posters can be an issue but as I say, if you get to the crux of the issues that are being discussed with him (and overlook WUM/ naughty behaviour (some of which I find quite amusing if I’m honest)), you can have a very good, intelligent conversation about the blades. As I say, my take is that despite his ability to get people’s backs up, he makes the forum a more interesting place for discussion.

Why thankyou Pinchy. A love in of these proportions has not been seen since the aftermath of our 3-3 draw at home to Crewe under Danny Wilson when both sets of fans were fawning over each other uncontrollably. You may recall your favourite player (no goals nick) was moved to the right wing that day and caused them all manner of problems. A revelation you might say.

Pinchy (& others in the Bladey Tribute Act). I'm sure I've just been lazy with my words. I'll have used a phrase like "it matters to me where our first team players have come from". Understandably, the Bladey Tribute Act have taken that to mean - where they come from geographically. I really mean who I DON'T want in the First Team. I don't want older, last contract, big name, was once in the Prem, wage drain, gravy train players. I prefer younger, on the way up, fit in with work ethic, & I will say mainly British or Irish players, schooled by a British Academy somewhere back in the track.

I'd just used the lazy "where they come from" to mean the above. We've got some great Academy prospects playing for Ireland, Wales & Northern Ireland age groups in this International Break. I'm happy & proud for them. They're not from Sheffield. Doesn't bother me for one second.

"Where" was lazy language.

And apart from your very lazy use of the English language, I generally find your beer tasting notes to be of interest.

I have never fawned over anyone at Crewe. Knowing (or at least suspecting) what we do now, it’s perhaps just as well.

Perhaps so. Think I was on blades mad in those days but recall a large scale love in full of admiration for the way both sides played the game. "No goals Nick" for us and Luke Murphy for them taking the majority of the plaudits.
