Is promotion realistic?

Although it's early days we are 4th in the championship just 2 points off the summit at present,is promotion or a top 6 finish a realistic possibility?
Contrary to what we were told by fans of the unclean that we would struggle,be fighting to stay up,not good enough, need to spend lots of money etc etc there isn't a lot to be scared of in this league in reality and I believe we are in the top 6 best teams in this division.
We have the option of loans and the January transfer window if needed but I don't think we need that much extra to stay up there.
There is now good competition for shirts in every department and with the team spirit etc I honestly think we could even finish in the top 2.
I know there's a long way to go but we have got to be confident after what we have seen in this division up to now.

What are your thoughts on this?
Do you think the top 6 is realistic?

I'll stick to my pre season prediction that if we add a bit more quality in Jan we'll make the top 6. That should be good enough to clinch promotion as long as the final doesn't go to penalties!

I think finishing in or around the top 6 is definitely possible. I can't really see us slipping far down the table now, although of course it is early days. As Wilder has said, we've never gone backwards under him yet.

Anything better than consolidation will still be a bonus for me but you can't deny that we're looking more and more accomplished with every passing week - individually and collectively. And there's no reason not to expect us to get better as the season progresses - just like last season. It's just whether other teams improve and whether they start coping with us better.

There are a lot of good squads in the Championship, but not too many good teams. In fact I don't think there are any who play as well as a team as we do. And I'm convinced there aren't any managers as good as Wilder.
Those things give me real belief that we can go a very long way this season.

Then there's Brooks. A very special talent indeed. I can't help but think our best chance of promotion will be with him at the club. He can turn us into a team who can go away from home and beat anybody - even the massive clubs.

Baby steps, 50 points first, then guarantee play off spot, then guarantee top 2 CW knows what he is doing ;)

Back in 2004 the Boston Red Sox who hadn't won a baseball World Series in 86 years and were 3-0 down in a seven game play off series (semi final) to their biggest rivals the Yankees were all wearing t shirts with "why not us?" on them.
They beat the Yankees 4-3 a come back never achieved before and few if any thought possible then won the World Series.

Nothing is impossible with the right quality and spirit.

So "Why not us?"

Fuck promotion I want to win the fucking league,100 points plus nothing less and I see nothing stopping us!

Wilder is on a run

99 points in 2016 with Northampton
100 points in 2017 with the Mighty Blades

So surely he’s aiming for 101 points in 2018?

Let's not carried away. The pigs have been claiming we have been talking about going straight up but most of us know that consolidation is the aim this season. I hope our start doesn't get the dickheads thinking anything else other than play offs is a failure

I'm not comparing us to them in direct terms, I was merely referencing Bolton as an example of how promoted teams can also fair.

You could equally cite Norwich and Bournemouth.

Bolton were always going to struggle, as were many others, as it happens, beginning with B, including much cap-doffed Brentford and big spending Birmingham. It's in my back catalogue just before the season started...no hindsight...we're above all of them.

No Titans in this league.

Maybe we can, maybe we'll get stuffed by Wolves and Forest and it will start looking less likely. But by concentrating on promotion, on what happens in May next year, you're just wishing your life away. Just enjoy the wins, shrug off the losses and leave it to CW.

I agree with that entirely. At the other end of the spectrum though, time to cast off the silly Bladey Inferiority Complex that doesn't permit us to say we really are rather good and maybe a tiny bit massive...

Indeed.

At a slight tangent, which countries compete in this global "World Series"?

My prediction was that Wilder would get us up via the play offs within thee seasons. Why not dream that it could happen in the first season?

Of course it is possible and achievable.

I said after Sunderland that I thought that we might get a second consecutive promotion. At the minute we have a superb footballing side with an excellent team ethic that has taken the Championship by surprise, and if anything I've been underwhelmed by how the good the Championship has actually been.

It is still a long way off, but keep stringing together the good results, keep showing up and putting in the good performances, then why not.

You never know but still think we're missing something up top to make us into a really decent side. Wouldn't at all be surprised if Wilder got this team to keep it up though - they've been superb thus far.

Yes we could be top six, yes we could get automatic promotion and yes, we could end up struggling in the bottom half. Let's not get above ourselves but let's also be honest, how many of you have kept a lid on the promotion pot that bubbling away in the back of your mind? Personally, I am keeping it calm just in case but, do I dare to dream....HELL YEAH! Confidence but no arrogance because we don't snort in swill.

Language is great. "Realistic"? Yes I think so. Smaller clubs with lesser budgets have been promoted to the Premier League, so of course it is not unrealistic to think it could happen here.

Is it possible? Of course. Is it likely? Is it probable? I shouldn't think so, there are teams with stronger squads and bigger budgets who can push the boat out in the next transfer window to help them over the line.

Before Norwich, I said that I would be happy with 4 points from Norwich, Pigs and Wolves but if we got 6 (or more) I'd start to genuinely believe we can finish top 6. That's a very tough run of matches. And when you look at the sides we've already played - sides coming down from the Prem or finishing top 6 last year, plus in form teams and local rivals who are going to raise their game... we've actually had an unbelievable start.

If we can sustain that form, promotion will look increasingly likely. But as others have said, it should be one game at a time. We'd only have to lose a few matches and we'd slip out of the playoff picture.

Since the start of last season, the Blades have won more league games than any other side in the top four tiers of English football (36).

We're very good and have been for more than a year. I don't say it much because, it doesn't need saying, the evidence is before our eyes. The way we've adapted and stepped up to the challenge is outstanding and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we went up but I'm not letting the promotion issue define our season. If we finished 7th it would still be a good season.

If we finished 17th it would still be a decent season when you at where we have come from.

Another good win tonight and we are now 2nd,if we keep winning now we are up :):):):):)

There's not a snowball in hells chance that United are going to struggle this season.

I can't see us not been in the play off hunt , we have pretty much dominated every team at home apart from Norwich . Play offs will do me

We dominated Norwich I thought. They played the perfect away game but we totally controlled that game

Yes it is realistic - Will it happen? Probably not, but its not beyond the wilderest dreams we have.

IT is also not beyond reality that unless the slave owning dolphin slaughterer wakes up to reality that the grunters could also be out of this league. which to me would be the dead dolphin in a fishing net , or cherry on the cake as we say ;)
