Although it's early days we are 4th in the championship just 2 points off the summit at present,is promotion or a top 6 finish a realistic possibility?
Contrary to what we were told by fans of the unclean that we would struggle,be fighting to stay up,not good enough, need to spend lots of money etc etc there isn't a lot to be scared of in this league in reality and I believe we are in the top 6 best teams in this division.
We have the option of loans and the January transfer window if needed but I don't think we need that much extra to stay up there.
There is now good competition for shirts in every department and with the team spirit etc I honestly think we could even finish in the top 2.
I know there's a long way to go but we have got to be confident after what we have seen in this division up to now.

What are your thoughts on this?
Do you think the top 6 is realistic?

I'm 62, been watching since the days of Pace and Shaw, seen it all, and I have to tell you, I would actually be surprised now if we dropped out of the top 6. I just can't shake the feeling that we are going to beat our neighbours to promotion.

You had it right with 'a long way to go'

What are your thoughts on this?

That it is far far too early to be talking about top 6. Let's get 20 games under our belts otherwise we start to sound like other 'massive' clubs who get a bit carried away with themselves.

Do you think the top 6 is realistic?

Ask me at Xmas, but meanwhile enjoy the smug grin a bit longer.

Given our relative budget and that we have been away from this level for six years, there's still a lot for us to adjust to in my mind, and I'd still be very pleased if we finished anywhere in the top half.

We've had a great start and we're in form, but it is a long season.

My biggest worry about this season is the fans getting carried away and raising their expectations to a play-off finish already. Yes, we might do it based on current form, but let's just enjoy this season, surely?

The pressure is off because we are certainly not going down.

I've been watching since the mid 70's and this reminds me of the early Bassett days but playing better football, the togetherness, team spirit etc which goes a long way to making a successful team(eg Leicester).
You can go out and sign players for £10 million but that is no good if they have the wrong attitude.
We have got something special here and I would not be surprised if we did make the top 6.

It's always easy to get carried away when you have a promising start in a new league. Just look at our fellow promoted Bolton to see how it could've been going.

Promotion can be realistic to every team while it's mathematically possible, which in these early stages it is to just about everyone.

Stay grounded, and take each game as it comes. There's still a very long way to go.

...........heard all this bollox last season about not going up/blowing it cos it's the Blades way etc etc.

Our fans should ask themselves one question and it's "why not"

One game at a time, but why should we fear anyone in this division, and just as a reminder, Huddersfield lost 15 games in the regular season and not 1 win in the 3 playoff games.

Don’t take much notice of a limited number of results.

It’s usually wise to use “performances” as a prediction of what future results might be

But let’s be honest our performances are always consistently good. We always turn up.
We have bossed the opposition in our last 6 games and deserved to beat an ultra defensive Norwich.
So we should be on 6 wins from our last 6 matches.

Getting promotion is all about consistency and for the last 2 years Wilder is the most consistent manager in England.
So why not?
No pressure though ha ha....we can just enjoy the ride.

Can’t compare us with Bolton or Millwall.
We were on another planet to both those teams last season.
I knew we’d finish well above those two.

As I said short term results mean little because luck can play a part.
However luck hasn’t played any part and if anything we’re getting better.

Looking at the table last year, 80ish points gets you the play-offs. Can we win 20 games out of our remaining 37 games, or accumulate 20 wins worth of points? I certainly think so.

Cliché time: Take each game one at a time..Its a marathon, not a sprint...Look at the table in May..The table never lies...

All bullshit ..Of course its realistic..

^^^^^^ Speaks volumes sheffsteel - we are getting better, we are learning lessons early ie: M'boro and Cardiff and we just need to keep progressing.

There is no reason why last years players with this seasons recruits can't keep getting better.

It's possible, of course. But no point talking about it until it looks like it's within reaching distance, if indeed it ever becomes so. For now, the only thing within reaching distance is Wolves at home.

Ain't too sure what the destination is, but I'm damn well enjoying the ride :D

I'm not comparing us to them in direct terms, I was merely referencing Bolton as an example of how promoted teams can also fair.

Getting a bit sick of being disrespected, especially by those piggy twats. We won because we were good and their a shit team.

We’re a good team and every man is on the same page. We’re improving and learning every week and there is no pressure on this team to do better than they are doing now.

Outside the top 10 in the premier league you’re a good manager away from competing with everyone else....

I said play offs before the season started. I might change at the end of the week

Brooks is so good, if we can keep him all season, he can be unplayable in a free role. He can make the difference as he generates such confidence within the team.

Think play offs are possible - well anything is possible - but I have been let down too many times over the years to bet my house on it. A lot will depend on avoiding injuries to key players. We have little or no cover for Coutts and Fleck if either or both got injured/suspended. Lundstram looks better every time he comes on but is nowhere near a Coutts or Fleck. Could we bring back Whiteman in January? Is he ready? We also are clearly light up front and will certainly need to strengthen in there in the JTW come what may. I am sure that Mitchel/CW/AK are on that job already and with their recruitment record you would not bet against them signing another gem without spending a fortune. In the mean time I am just enjoying last Sunday and the moment.

Maybe we can, maybe we'll get stuffed by Wolves and Forest and it will start looking less likely. But by concentrating on promotion, on what happens in May next year, you're just wishing your life away. Just enjoy the wins, shrug off the losses and leave it to CW.

Not sure if this post belongs here or on Roy's View From.

Leaving the ground on Sunday (because of where I was sat I had to leave with the Wednesday fans) there was a group of them in front of me. One asked the question referring to us 'do you honestly believe they could get promoted?'

There was total silence from the others. Reading into that, no one was willing to say 'yes' and yet no one really believed enough to say 'no'.

Said this before the only ceiling to our ambitions is our own lack of belief In ourselves. The comment by McCabe last week about '5 years' was I believe to be tongue in cheek. Everyone at the club will be pushing on now to maintain this start.

Key to this is keeping our best players. I hope David Brooks stays for many years to come, earn success with us and becomes an icon for the younger fans similar to Hagan was to my dad's generation and TC was to mine.

I don't think anything is unrealistic in this league given how tight it is, but it's not something I've really given any thought to. I'm just enjoying the fact we have a team that, over the last 12 months, has got me excited about going to games again.

We've no right to expect promotion given that our squad is probably about 19/20th in terms of what it cost to assemble.

BUT, with this management duo it's just impossible to know what the limit of their powers is and I do think we have a chance of making the top 6.

Just take one game at a time and see what happens, tomorrow night will be interesting, could possibly get turned over by a decent Wolves side or play really well again and pick up more points. I think we will have a season of excellent results and the odd bashing, its a tough division and the games keep coming thick and fast, a lot will depend also on injuries and keeping our best players fit. I would imagine in January if we are in the top 6 there could be some decent investment in players, lets just enjoy the ride at the moment and not get to carried away

There was another thread which asked the same question.

Yes Promotion (automatic) is attainable

Excellent stuff. I was talking to a mate on Sunday and he asked 'Who've we got next?' I told him Wolves and Forest. He replied 'Fuck me, that's tough'. I told him there are no easy games in the Championship - even Burton have some very handy players. But that's why we've got through the last six years, the freezing cold Tuesday nights playing the likes of Yeovil, Stevenage, Fleetwood, Crawley! We're back where we belong and - personally - at the moment I'm not too fussed with getting into the PL. Yes, the money is insane but - like Viv Nicholson (young 'uns, ask your dad), it could seriously fuck up the Blades ethic.

For now, let's just line 'em up and knock 'em down.

Yes, early days but we haven't come close to dropping below Leeds' standards of last season in fact, we're already five points ahead of them.
