Interesting comments Baw, who in your opinion is next off the production line ? Do we have any forwards who can help through the injury crisis ?

No not surprised recently He has steadily improved his game and looks good. He attacks massed defenders and they know if they tackle it would be a pen. The coaches are working on his decision making and that has improved recently. I hope Brooks performances will encourage the manager to trust and blood others from our Academy pipeline

Hear, hear Sir!!!

Biggest sort of investment there is.

Just realised, what with the "Brooks will tear you apart" chant & all, that Brooksy don't half look like Bernard Sumner, circa 1981

He also has a big fan at S6.

NKT not happy about this. Not happy at all.

Not his finest moment on twitter 'liking' this post imo.

"Their best young player rips us a new one on the pitch, our best youngster rips us a new one on twitter,"

"Brooks was applauded off by a fair number around me in the North."

"On the day we've been schooled by our biggest rivals on our own patch and dropped further off the pace, a tweet from a teenager who's barely kicked a ball for the first team (and almost certainly never will) doesn't really register on my Richter scale."

"Our own lads and son of a Wednesday legend enjoying Hunt getting skinned.
All in all it's been a great day. "

Sorry Roygbiv , I'm not trying to nick your day job.
Have just read a good item by Danny in the Star (sorry!) on Brooksy, and was about to criticise the final sentence which says that the lad will never have to pay for a beer in Sheffield. I was going to say he might not get any free beers in S6, but it appears from what you say that he has his admirers there as well. Sunday was so comprehensive that there is no need for us to gloat (but we will!). There are also nice comments in the article from former team-mates in the U23s, who have been on the receiving end of his tricks in training.
This all adds up to another of my insights into football. Having seen the matches against Matlock and Walsall last month, I was convinced (and probably said to my son) that Brooks was not ready for first-team football yet. Fortunately, he has improved quickly.;)

Great insights, thanks Baw.
How far will Ben Whiteman be from the first team squad when he gets back from Donny?
Has he played much with Brooks?

the thing I loved about Brooks, he is so unassuming, he goes about his work quietly and confidently.

he will certainly be in the shop window now and come January we might have our resolve tested, he looked so good and was not overhauled by the occasion at all, he has little tricks that seem impossible to spot but get him past one or two players with minimum effort, cant wait to see more of him. :)

In relation to the Academy lads playing at under 23 The two Centre backs will be in contention towards the end of the season Sam Graham is improving but is young and needs more time. Callum Semple is due back soon and should be in contention later in the season, he is a modern Centre Back and we have missed his distribution out from the back. Harvey Gilmour is getting some good reports and Regan Slater is very promising but needs to channel his aggression. We have two Forwards who have been improving and Ti Smith is impressing me but needs some time. Finally Jordan Hallam keeps scoring goals, I'm a big fan he can be missing for long spells but when a goal is scored its usually him that gets it. Very calm and laid back, I think he lulls defenders into a sense of false security. He has scored at every age group. Is he ready to step up? Probably not but if he got a game don't be surprised if he scores.
The lads I have mentioned have come through from Under 9s and are Blades through and through.
One other that has been missing is Steve Mallon, very similar to Brooks but decision making a bit poor. They will work on him. I sometimes got him and Brooks mixed up, similar style on the ball.
Its worth a visit to watch the 18s or 23s The coaches are loud but encouraging. particularly Travis Binnion, top man. The Academy operate with a smallish number of players and when they get to the 23s you know they will do well. The big question is what happens then, 23s, fringes of the first team, loan or sell them on. Recently I sense a willingness to keep them close to home, I hope that is the case.

Great insights, thanks Baw.

I only saw him a few times and I'm not sure if he played with Brooks. It seems like he is doing well so it will be interesting to see what happens.
One thing that I believe is if we can get a couple of lads through who know Brooks and how he plays and positions himself. it will be great, Callum Semple continually found him but we will need to wait a bit to see them get together again. Louise Reed and Brooks played well together at 23 level.

Baw nothing better than seeing local lads pull on the first team shirt. The centre halves you mentioned will need to be good as with CCV on loan and Henegan signed there's a lot of competition there without mentioning the established players.

The academy has been a resounding success not only in bringing kidscthrough from a very young age but also identifying those in their mid teens like Brooks and the lad from Chelsea who have been released by Cat 1 academies. Whats great now is given our current standing we are in a position to fend off other clubs interest or if it's a City/Chelsea type demand absolute top dollar for those on full time contracts

It's not an issue of selling him, we know we will at some point that is just football, a club in our league can't stop young players going to the premiership. We can't match what they can offer.

The issue is how much we get for him, and this is where we have failed time and time again.

So much agree Our higher position opens opportunities for the youngsters. Its a great place for talented young players to develop

Glad you enjoyed it, Hodgy. No need to apologise, you can make your own mind up and are clearly an excellent judge! ;)
Piece is here. Wasn't going to link it but balls to it. He's a future star - arguably a present one, too - and I make no apologies for eulogising over him.

Loved watching Brooksy light up games at Stocksbridge last season. Doubt I ever will again, but that's great for the lad - and for SUFC.

Do agree but if the young Centre Backs fulfill the potential placed in them by United then they will be an asset to them I just hope it is with us.

Great to see the comments by Joe Cummings who was released last year and signed by Charlton. It kind of confirms the togetherness of the Academy lads. I bet the Leicester centre back at the game will be looking forward to playing against our boy sometime in the future

It's only been a few weeks since the last time!

Professional clubs don't do a "run out". That's Sunday League thinking.

Givemallarun.
They do though don't they the clubs at the very top of the game do it

Like Barcelona with Messi as a kid and Nugent is with del piero man Utd with the likes of Beckham scholes highs the Neville etc

So you're talking shite again

You make my point superbly. They were regarded as exceptional players and selected on merit.

I see Whiteman was on the bench for mediocre League One Donny as they lost at home last night. Maybe we should put that ten year contract on hold for a while?

Meanwhile, Little Louis and De Juve are heading up Chesterfield's charge into non-league.

Bladey Boybanders keep wishing on that overworked star.

You were saying all this disrespectful shite about Brooks last April

Regarding a pathway for the young Centre Backs, now that we play 3 at the back and have one on loan and another doing well but getting on a bit it looks like a couple could push into contention. Be good for us if it happens

What has respect to do with it? Where's the respect for Clough and Adkins, to name but two, on here?

I'll say what I think, in my own way, about public figures, whether major or minor. What you are actually asking for is deference. That's not available and if it were, I certainly wouldn't start with mediocre kid footballers.

If Bassett, Montgomery, Kozluk Morgan, Done, Biggs, Smith or any of a thousand others, want my address for service of a defamation writ, I'll send them the directory. What they won't get is the sort of affected Uriah Heep style 'respect' that you have in mind.

If what happens and why will it necessarily be good for us?

So you're saying Brooks is a mediocre kid ?

I know you were saying similar last May but I'm not sure who you're talking about now because mediocre he certainly is not

You need to pay closer attention. My appreciation of David Brooks' excellence has been evidenced several times. I'm just not obsessed by him and Sharp to the exclusion of our other excellent players.

I was clearly and unequivocally talking about Little Louis and De Juve, both of whom I identified as mediocre quite a long time ago. I have many other examples. I know quality when I see it. Brooks has it; Others don't and that won't change however much you wish upon that Bladey star.

Reed scored a goal for Chesterfield a few weeks ago. Fancy that, a goal. It sparked an embarrassing renewal of Bladey Boyband fervour, led by the Star-Wisherupon-In-Chief, Woody.

I'm simply redressing the balance, in the interests of common-sense and sanity. It's what I do. It's a thankless but essential task. The loonies will run free if I don't tighten the straps on their jackets from time to time.
