Still not giving Brooks the cudos Pinchy? Stubborn twat.

#79. But Leon was man of the match. Hey, there's no bigger fan of quality proper footballers than me. I actually get great and unmitigated pleasure from watching Brooksy, unlike those who can't resist a pre-emptive tantrum about him being sold when he hasn't been. In fact, didn't we sell him last Summer just after Wondergoal Duffy?

He's just got that bit of magic.

He'll frustrate some days, he'll switch off defensively occasionally but he'll do things (like that piece of skill where he destroyed that poor fucker with a nutmeg) that are worth the price of admission.
It was awesome. I mean really fucking good.

Said last week he should start in this game, many disagreed.

How wrong can you get it peeps. A legend is born.

:)
I was in the 'not ready' camp, never been so glad to be wrong, he and all the lads were class today!

New contract asap with a buy out clause of 25m. The brightest talent I have seen in the lower leagues for years.....if the rumours are true that Fulham bid 10m for jug ears then the bidding starts at 25m for me
Yeah but for a buyout of £25M, even £10M, it needs to be a massive contract. I mean seriously big for his age, level etc. Teams not meeting the price we set can end up costing the lad a million or so in wages. My mate who's a Wolves fan txt me and said, apart from fuck Wednesday, that Brooks is a class act. January will be interesting. Hopefully no one outside of Sheffield watched that game.

Perhaps we are in a different era of our development these days which means that our team is so much better nowadays that we don't need to sell our star performers to get us out of the wilderness of the third tier football. The team have shown everyone that we have come a long way since those dark days. Maybe we could build upon the strong base that we currently have to take us forward to become a Premiership club if we resist the usual urge to sell to try and improve our team or pay off debt. United have developed quite a lot of talent over the years, only second placed in bringing Premiership players through their academy.

We have better financial backing than any time in my time as a supporter. After the recent good times we are perhaps in a better position to even attract additional backers.

Keep the special assets that we have nurtured in the Academy in the future and show some real business and football ambition.
Keep the Brooks and the others in the pipeline for our own supporter, club and it's investors

A contract is an agreement between two or more parties. You can't unilaterally impose a minimum transfer fee clause. Why would a player or agent agree to such a huge and prohibitive (from his standpoint) sum?
And the contract being between us and a potential buyer....hey presto 2 parties

Hope we can hang on to Brooks.

Premier league clubs will soon be sniffing around, if not already.

HH

As the club develops, this comes with the territory. Wilder will become sought-after, who would want Carvalhal? Ditto Brooks. Do you think any scouts would want any of Wednesdays overpaid, lazy has-beens?

Probably too late with Brooks but most top European clubs slap buy-out clauses on their best players, why not us?

I hate to say it but he looks like a young Chris Waddle. Excellent balance, comfortable on either foot, all the tricks and that languid running style that 'hides the real pace he has.
I do agree with you having watched him all last year

One of the few who really know Brooks' quality.

And thanks for the reports, much appreciated.

BTW Baw, has Brooks surprised you this season? He was not your Player of the Season for the U-23's last season as I recall. How often did he play in the front two? Wasn't it centre midfield in partnership with Reed who stayed deeper to give Brooks the freedom to push on?

Fascinating drama to unfold in the near future.

One key factor is whether we can promise Brooks regular first team football. Much has to happen for him to be assured first choice, though that might be scoffed at this morning.

Brooks' agent will be key. Wilder somehow has to convince player, family and agent that the lad's best interests are served at Bramall Lane and no way would sitting on the bench serve the lad well.

The agent will know what wages Brooks can get elsewhere right now. Might well discourage the lad from signing a new improved contract which could never be anywhere near what the big clubs can pay without blinking.

Big fee with loan back? But we can't promise first team football.

Great problem to have all of a sudden - and it is all of a sudden as Chesterfield well know. Don't forget the lad has only been with us since 2015 and was with Man City for years. He was born in Warrington, he is not a Kyle Walker type Blade. Wilder and the current momentum of the club and stable finances make our chances better than ever before.

What's best for us -£20m?, what so we can spend it all on Fletcher/ Forristieri/ Hooper/ Rhodes types? No way.

P.S. I'd take a punt on Rhodes actually for say a cut price £3m.

yes he has surprised me how much he had developed since we got him from man C. Although they way he played on Saturday was how he was with the under 23s. Then I saw he could be quiet if man marked but yesterday he was quick enough to lose his marker. You are right Reed and Slater anchored the mid field, and both did it well, releasing Brooks to play wide. He hit the box more often with the 23s but his style will be being worked on with the first team squad. In this era of possession football flair players can be seen as a luxury as they could lose the ball more often. I like Brooks as he reminds me of days past and he does remind me of Chris Waddle. I think Ramsdale got the Academy player award and at the time I thought that was correct.

Thanks Baw. Has he surprised you this past 2 months?

The Cardiff City fans on their forum are demanding that Coleman calls him up for their next full international
And make sure he gets some game time.

Then he’ll be tied to the Wales national side.

He's right up there with the most promising youngsters we've ever had.
Walker was an exciting player - but as a defender that has limitations.

Brook - skilful, exciting and in a role that lets him unleash his talent.

He is for me the biggest potential I've seen. By far. Frightening to think what he could become.

He also has a big fan at S6.

NKT not happy about this. Not happy at all.

Not his finest moment on twitter 'liking' this post imo.

"Their best young player rips us a new one on the pitch, our best youngster rips us a new one on twitter,"

"Brooks was applauded off by a fair number around me in the North."

"On the day we've been schooled by our biggest rivals on our own patch and dropped further off the pace, a tweet from a teenager who's barely kicked a ball for the first team (and almost certainly never will) doesn't really register on my Richter scale."

"Our own lads and son of a Wednesday legend enjoying Hunt getting skinned.
All in all it's been a great day. "

Sorry Roygbiv , I'm not trying to nick your day job.

Agreed G.

I suspect any buy-out clause will be linked to salary. The higher the amount the larger the salary otherwise there would not be much point in agreeing to this from the players perspective.

As a player this would require very careful thought / negotiation as after all it is potentially restrictive to free movement.

It is hard to stop in any young players way. Particularly if a move can secure financial future, in what is a fragile and short occupation.

Wilder needs to persuade Brooks to continue his education with us for now. Playing most weeks in the first team, rather than being a development type squad player in a Premier League team.

Hopefully Brooks will be a round for a few more years.

No not surprised recently He has steadily improved his game and looks good. He attacks massed defenders and they know if they tackle it would be a pen. The coaches are working on his decision making and that has improved recently. I hope Brooks performances will encourage the manager to trust and blood others from our Academy pipeline
