So then, given that we are so busy (we've lost, so everyone likes to be around!) and we are all experts, what changes to the team would YOU make for Saturday and why?

I think they should all wear tights like Mousey!

Def play Webber and Hendo as front two, try to involve Sun Cotterill and Hendrie.
P.s poor old monty keeps kopping for it but Quinn was equally shite against Donny and all I hear is how crap monty is?

I must admit I do not understand all the moaning. I am upset when we lose but I guess as a longtime fan while I always have high hopes I do not have high expectations. This is a tough league and teams tend to neutralize each other. Dony just smothers mid-field, they start by playing for the draw. They were successful against the 4th best team in the country (Villa) let alone the 4th best in the championship - even then it took a Morgan goal to do it for hem.

For me the one good thing is that now Blackwell has the excuse to change the team. Hard to take Quinn and Monty out when we are unbeaten.

So, keep the same backline and GK but drop Quinn and Monty and replace them by Sun and Howard. If we have a decent offense then we do not need 6 defensive players. We need players in midfield not afraid to hold the ball. Also keep the forward line that finished - Webber, Ward, Henderson and Hendrie. Ward may not be better than Sharp but at least he is quick.

I would drop Quinn to the bench but replace Monty on the bench with Cotterill. For all Cot's faults he is still a winger and we need folk who are willing to play wide if we are to have a true alternative to going long from the back.

I still hope for a new inning streak and Preston are not at their best either, so all is possible.

Here's what I'd do...

Bring somebody in who is an actual left winger. Not just somebody who can do a job there.

Get some quick wingers in the team, who look to get at full backs and in behind, and get the defence retreating and facing their own net.

Start passing the ball forward on the floor, rather than one of the centre halves or Kenny lumping it at Henderson every time.

Get Hendrie in the middle of the park pushing forward looking for openings with Monty just sitting in front of the defence, clearing up any counter attacks and winning the ball back.

Get Webber in his rightful position, up front with Henderson.

Finally, start trying to play on the front foot a bit more. Make them worry about us instead of worrying about them.

Swap quinny for hendrie and halford for sun. God that was simple.
Hendrie needs to play simple. If not cancel his contract and get shut.
And leave the rest of the team as is,the problem is not upfront its the middle that aint working

i said at the start of season every time hendo played the players switched off there brains and huffed it to him it wasn’t much different with beattie still punted most of the balls up front to him.

sharp webber or ward are never going to bag a shed load of goals when the balls in the air all the time they just haven’t got the size to play like that.

we need some good dribbling fast wingers who can pass to offer some width and stretch teams this will open up some space in central midfield so the creative midfielders we have can find some time and space to play.

Don’t play hendo and who they going to punt it to they will give up doing that in the first ten mins.

Get cott's on the wing he’s the best we’ve got at the minute or try naughton there he could do a job.

if we must play a defensive midfielder play sun he'd be great in that role.

Why not try 3 5 2 sit sun in front of them to offer a little cover so we can cover the wings

i dare blackwell to try it

Kenny/Bennett

Naughton - Killa - Morgs - Sun

Cotterill - Howard - Halford - Hendrie

Webber - Henderson

I didn't wanna play Hendrie on the left, but we have nobody else to play there.

Lots of people are making changes on the right wing... it'd be interesting to see how well Kyle Naughton plays when he isn't protected by a player who can tackle, leaving him exposed to pressure away from home.

Will he still be living embodiment of the second coming?

For me:

Haber
Naughton Killa Morgan Walker
Cotterill Howard Montgomery Hendrie
Ward Henderson

Benno
Halford Morgan Killa Sun
---------Monty--------
Naughton---------Squinny
---------Howard--------
Webber----------Relish

Monty holding with howard linking the midfield to the strikers.

-----------------Kenny--------------

Naughton---Morgan---Killa---Naysmith

-Cotterill---Halford---Howard---Sharp-

--------Webber------Henderson------

Bench; Bennett, Bromby, Quinn, Hendrie, Ward.

A few people have said that they would like to see Sun Jihai play in midfield. Blackwell as publically said that Sun Jihai has told him that he DOESN'T want to play in midfield.

A few people have questioned me asking for Halford to be given a choice in the middle in a previous post. He's played that position before, he gives us height in the middle (something we lack) he has a range of passing (something we lack) and he can tackle. I see no reason why he shouldn't be given a chance there. In all honesty, can he be much worse than what we've already got......

And finally....as much as I disagreed with Blackwells starting line-up on Tuesday night. The main problem is the tactics, not the starting 11.

Benno

I was just thinking near enough the same thing.

Give Monty the holding role, all he has to do is win in back and play it to the nearest player.

I think this is a role he'd prefer and I'd say it was where he would be best suited... I didn't see Tuesday night but I know on Saturday, the midfield were allowing so many balls straight through the centre for Morgan and Killa to then deal with. Having Monty play just in front of them would offer them some protection with forward-thinking centre-backs and players down the flanks.

To be honest i dont ever want to see montgomery or quinn in a utd shirt again, and ive put ward in there as hes the only player i can remember at least forcing a save from the keeper in the second half on tuesday!

the difference with that team is that it has footballers in there, but im sure they wont get picked because im not sure if they can kick the ball high enough for blackwell

Hahaha, bless!

Just something I would like to point out, at Watford we were having a debate in the pub about who was the best passer of a ball at United. Someone said Naughton which I disagreed with and was willing to put money on Monty making fewer stray passes than Naughton. So we counted during the whole of the Watford match how many passes from each player didn't reach their own man... Naughton had 8 misplaced passes where as Monty only misplaced 3.

In no way am I trying to say Naughton isn't as good as Monty. I think he is a very good right back. But I am trying to point out that this slagging of Monty is getting beyond a joke. If he were to move club I wouldn't blame him in the slightest, I'd even be happy for him because what he receives at Bramall Lane is totally undeserved. He runs his socks off for the team, and when did that become not enough for United fans to ask from a player? I thought our team ethos was that every player gives his all for the club and for the shirt, irrespective of his natural talent.

As for Quinn, he has just come back from suspension and wasn't quite up to the pace for 1 game. So far this season he has been a very good player, our current top goalscorer infact and you want him out?! Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you want our previous top goal scorer to stay? So to get rid of our 2nd top scorer of the season would be a bit silly don't you think?

Good day!

dont hahaha bless me you prick

naughton is still learning and he might make a few miss placed passes because he is trying to make something happen from right back due to the failing midfield

and as for quinn, he rushes things, he trys to play balls first time which he cant do, he would actually be a decent player if he just slowed himself down and thought about it, but ive lost faith in that happening.

Oooo, name calling. Very mature ;)

So come back to my point rather than making excuses for Naughton. I know he is young and learning and tries to make things happen. But don't you want to comment on the fact that Monty loses the ball less than Naughton? Prehaps give Monty credit because he is in the thick of things where there is less time to think and react than at right back?

And the point about Quinn, don't you think encouraging him rather than slating him will make him calmer on the ball and then he will take more time? At the moment nobody wants to fuck up with the ball so they just knock it on and make it someone elses problem, hence the poor football. And I think the only people to blame for that are the petty crowd.

not really ive been waiting for it from quinn for 2 seasons

Ok, I think you're wrong, he was a good player in the Premiership when he broke through into the 1st team. But you're entitled to your opionion.

Now can you answer the questions put to you about Monty please? :)

As an interjection... can I just remind you all of the standards we expect around here.

Please remain respectful of other peoples' opinions.

Many thanks.
