Wasn't The Cannon the roughest boozer in Sheffield?

As a young man I had a Saturday/part time job in Olivers Shoes (Timpsons Shoes) next to Castle Market.

Our deliveries were Monday by the side of where Burtons was on the road - anyway we were ferrying shoes into shop in boxes on trolleys when someone from Cannon ran across road and jumped on lorry and stole a box of shoes - was a skinhead who told me in no uncertain terms to keep my "fucking gob shut" I saw him run off into boozer but told Police had no idea where he went.

Hard to say but it must have been close, also the nearby Hen & Chickens. The police were fully aware that only villains frequented these places (near to the courts, see?) and could keep an eye on them. Some of the estate boozers can be rough, the Cross Guns on Sharrowvale Road used to be a bit tasty and as for the 'you could get anything in the Cannon', I'm not sure that qualifies in making a boozer rough'. Back in the 80s, the same applied in The Yorkshireman as some of Cole Brothers' loading bay staff used to wander in.

Betta Fetcha Fletchers loaf. My life long affinity with custards started with these. Also trying to scoff an elephants foot between the van and our house without getting seen :) The smell on the back of the van was amazing.

Ah yes, that smell.

If you drop lucky when you go to Sainsbury's at Hillsborough you can get the bakery smell.

First ever 1st division match at Highfield Road. Future Blade John Tudor is in the photo

and on their team sheet at No5!
Was he a regular CH at Cov or filling in? I presume they weren't years ahead of the game and using unconventional numbering!
Never knew he'd ever been anything other than a CF.

Not a regular at Coventry. He played as CB in our 5-1 win at Pompey in Sept 1970
