Is it shut? It has been years since I was in there, used to go regularly get a few in before hitting town.
It closed and was re-opened as the Shiregreen Arms then shut again but I'm sure I heard a rumour someone's going to give it another go. It won't last long!
Late 70's, Penguin, disco Thursday night, Talent night Friday. Great memories.

(for the youth of today - I offer this explanation of Bert's confusion ...... if there was a kit clash in the FA Cup, it used to be customary and considered polite for BOTH teams to change their kits)

if anyone else finds the image that Bert inadvertently posted offensive, please lobby the relevant authorities. I honestly think it may have been a genuine mistake. ;)

I'm calling Pigs v Chelsea, 1968 FA Cup ..... why were you there Bert?

Bert is definitely in the background here though.

Bert, isn't that Leeds v Chelsea picture the Kop at Swillsboro, how very dare you?

is it even Leeds - or is it Wednesday in disguise?

9 is Ritchie I think and Harris and Tambling are two of the Chelsea players.

Chelsea beat them the year before as well, after knocking us out in the 5th round.

14th March 1970. The previous night we beat Carlisle at the Lane. I missed the match because I was in bed with flu. After he got home after the match, my dad came up to my bedroom to tell me about Woody's cracker after a short free kick from Barlow. We were in 2nd place in the table with 8 games left to play. We all didnt expect to lose the next 4 matches!

They used to come round ours on a Saturday morning. My Grandma used to come back in with allsorts. My favourites were the Cherry Bakewells and Apple Charlottes.

God, I miss that

Wasn't The Cannon the roughest boozer in Sheffield?

As a young man I had a Saturday/part time job in Olivers Shoes (Timpsons Shoes) next to Castle Market.

Our deliveries were Monday by the side of where Burtons was on the road - anyway we were ferrying shoes into shop in boxes on trolleys when someone from Cannon ran across road and jumped on lorry and stole a box of shoes - was a skinhead who told me in no uncertain terms to keep my "fucking gob shut" I saw him run off into boozer but told Police had no idea where he went.

No. It was a meeting place for villains and thieves but there were tougher boozers

as evidenced by this photo, for younger readers, in the 1970s many football clubs erected fences round the pitch to protect the fans from being attacked by the Police.

Think it was the L**ds match in March 1985. During half time L**ds fans ripped up seats and took off advertisement hoardings
