.....could be a great season for football fans in Sheffield.
Early day's for us but we seem well capable of more than holding our own . The "others" will be up there around the top 6 again , so banter will be flowing week after week in the pubs and at work.
We all have pig mates who have told us about how strong La Liga is but nowt i've seen worries me in the slightest.
I hate to say it but they have (on paper) the better players but do they have the better team?
The way we play is so very different to them that i doubt not many of the Wendy players would fit into our style of relentless pressuring and high energy play. They seem more pedestrian in their play and for that reason i fancy us to get more from the derbies than them.
I really do think that both will be in for a humdinger of a season and it's going to be fascinating to see who comes out on top.
COYRAWW!

They've not really played anyone decent yet though, have they, other than Fulham?

They're so fickle aren't they?

Last week it was Carlos out, now in... I can't keep up.

This 'teams haven't worked them out/don't know what to expect against us' makes me laugh too. Don't any teams do scouting ahead of games?

It's insane how the mood has changed in 24 hours. They thought they were superb yesterday which is baffling.

The pressure is still off us despite what they say. Only our fans will think we can go there and win.

I'd agree with that (you could argue Forest but I don't expect them higher than mid table).
On the other hand we've had 'Boro, Cardiff, Derby (and theoretically Brentford, who then went and chucked it all away in the transfer window).

I have seen nothing this season to change what I said about them last season. I certainly wouldn't say that they have better players. They have names on paper (lots of Championship teams do) as derf says, but certainly not better players.

Westwood is an excellent keeper and they have poured money into fees and wages for strikers, presumably because the manager knows that, as they are a team that creates very few chances, they need to take a high proportion of the ones that come along.

In between, however, the team is very 'work-a-day' and I can't think of anyone that I would want in our team. What their midfield and defence do noticeably set out to do, though, as has been mentioned on another thread, is stop other better footballing teams playing, often quite cynically.

Moreover, their management can't possibly be as thick and ignorant of how we play as their fans are, and as such there is little prospect of them trying to play football against us in a couple of weeks time. Any of our footballers left standing after our trip to Bolton, will be in for another kicking at the Sty.

I'm hoping that Bannan will rack up enough yellows, or a red before we play em. He'll be told to do a 'Hatchet Job' on somebody. Dirty Git...

Colin Murray was suggesting the possibility of both Sheffield clubs in the playoffs this season. Don't think I could stomach them at Wembley.

Well reading that is like travelling to a totally different planet.

They are so self obsessed and self appreciating that they are blind to what every other team and commentator in the league has seen.
The majority clearly believe we are a hoof side, getting by through hard work and momentum alone. They insist that our midfield can't play in this division as "they haven't done it before", which is hilarious when Coutts, Samir and Duffy have....while Fleck left Rangers as a kid but having also played champions league fixtures! And that's before actually taking into account their ability.

They really do seem to think that they have superior players, and that none of ours would get in their side whereas player for player theirs would be in ours. The sort of belief that people with zero knowledge on the game would have. But for me, it would be down to the manager. Would Wilder replace any of his players with theirs?
He might take Fletcher....the keeper. But seeing as he wants talent AND hard work and desire I don't see him taking many if any at all. Hooper perhaps is in the Sharp mould?

I'm still confident that provided we don't have a bad day, we have enough when playing as standard to cause them problems. Westwood could be key. Whereas Blackman will have a huge test compared to what he's been used to. He's still a kid. We also need to have some strikers fit!

But more to the point, could they stomach us? If that happened, after all they have said? All that taking us for granted and bigging themselves up....that in our first season back with pretty much the same side that came up we were in the play offs?
It would do them in...and Wilder would eat them alive

Overheard this genuine conversation between a couple of pigs in a pub last night.

"United won again today didn't they?"
"Yeah, another win, they've had a good start"
"Wheels will come off soon though"
"Oh definitely, its obvious wheels will come off soon".

What do they even base this kind of opinion on? Blind hope?

Some of them are still peddling the "they're in for a shock" line. Now we are in for a shock "down the line".

They've certainly made this season even more enjoyable so far

Yeah, teams haven't worked us out,as if that's the only reason we're doing well...Sunderland didn't know anything about us,but changed their shape to match us up...They are clueless and clutching at straws...can't wait to go there and batter them with our inferior players.

Having read that thread of theirs I'm now convinced we'll beat them. They're falling into the same trap as every other team we've beaten this season. The complacency from their fans will rub off onto their team and vice versa. How the fuck can they dismiss Coutts and Fleck when they've never seen either of them play? Previously I was saying we would thrash them but a lot of that was bravado. I'm certain of it now, this is deja vu 1992-style all over again, these fucking idiots will never learn.

Like fuck they have better players than us. I wouldn't do any like for like swap with them, not a one.

I honestly don't think they'll be challenging for a play-off place this season. Fletcher and Hooper are quality players, but they will not get the service they need to get too many goals. Rhodes is a passenger who needs pacey flank players who can get the ball to him in the right area (6 yards out basically) in order for him to warrant his place in the team. The Forest-Fairy is a key player for them, despite his antics and his deplorable superior attitude. Without him they will struggle against decent opposition. They struggled to get a point out of Sunderland at home. Barnsley whupped the Black Cats, and stuffed Forest too, so let's get some perspective on where the Wendy are now, given the opposition they've faced so far. If they beat us, then I might start to think they have a chance of finishing in the top half. As it stands, I believe they'll be bottom half, and unless they have a change of manager, could be looking over their shoulder at that shaded band at the wrong end of the table.
