Sometimes facing the truth can be difficult to accept. In time you'll realise that yours isn't the only position that matters.

The fact that you replied so quickly to my post suggests that you couldn't have taken enough time to digest and consider my post before replying. As with previous replies you've allowed your gut instincts to better your potential for considered thinking.

I suppose you're right Dan, I am older than yourself, which probably explains why I have far more experience where this is concerned. But don't allow that to get in the way of feeling it necessary to respond in your inimitable fashion.

:D

Didn't mean to prompt S24SU WWIII, or get involved with some sort of for/against the local paper, but I'm glad you enjoyed the podcast and I hope that you'll continue to listen.

Someone earlier asked for another episode to sample, so why not try out Championship preview podcast...

Some of the predictions have (as always) aged poorly, but I think you'll like some of what we said (re: yourselves and SWFC especially!) and generally I hope you'll find us to be passionate and well-informed when it comes to the EFL - and that you may fancy subscribing. We are an independent podcast, but for the next week or so (until the Totally Football Show release their EFL offering) we are also the biggest, so get involved!

Those with iPhones/iTunes can subscribe here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/not-the-top-20-podcast/id1112915286?mt=2

Other options are available as well, just ask.

Really enjoyed listening to that. Sincerely.. thank you for putting out a podcast that actually reflects what the football league is all about.

It's genuinely impressive how much knowledge the two of you have about every club, enough to embarass the so-called expert pundits who show themselves up on a regular basis as knowing nothing outside the Prem.
Keep up the good work

Did you miss the Daily Mail too? Guess that doesn't suit the agenda though

Lol, barking up the wrong tree here, I think you'll find I'm one of the few on here who doesn't actually think The Star/Telegraph is biased against us, I just rarely read it nowadays. I don't read it because I don't think the football coverage is as good as it could and should be, and an article as good as this on a local team, but on another website, proves that.

You really don't help yourself by insisting every day that your paper can do no wrong and does everything fantastically well - if that were the case then why would so many on here a) not read it or b) not rate it.

On this occasion I don't even understand why you're arguing. There is absolutely no doubt that the Bleacher Report article was seen by more people than have probably ever read an article in The Star or Telegraph. Your piece was picked up by the Daily Mail - wonderful - still a drop in the ocean compared to the deadline day video.

I might be missing something here, but why, because some poor sod has happened to mention his occupation on a football forum, has he become a conduit for everyone's issues with his employer?

Because it's a cover story. Danny04 really works for Amey and is a Tree Slaughterer ;)

Pass it on to Danny04 (I think he works for 'The Star'!)

Danny comes on here and despite being a Blade, takes plenty of pelters bless him. I think a Tin Hat might be more use to him than a Tin Foil Hat.

Anyway, if I give mine away, what the fuck am I going to do when the voices aren't instructing me ;)

There are times when I am convinced that the Star is a biased irrelevant rag that leaves me infuriated. I have been reading it on and off for years. Then reality kicks in, it is a local paper, it can't afford to actively alienate a huge proportion of its readers. I don't think it's pro Wednesday or United. I think in the past it has made mistakes that make it easy to believe that. When something like the Ched affair happens the football reporters are shunted to one side and a different set of reporters take over. The editor then decides how to cover a story that locally is dynamite. I suspect most of the people who buy the Star have an allegience to some team or other, not necessarily local, but everyone seems to like a good salacious story that's why the tabloids sell, At that point the opinions of United fans take a back seat to the opportunity to sell papers. The Star will probably cease to exist as a printed medium in the end not because it's biased but because people have just stopped buying newspapers except online. I will not mourn the Murdoch press the Mail or the Express if they fold, part of me will be sad to see the star go. Before the internet I found out about United by reading Tony Pritchett. It was practically my only link to the club. I will mourn it a little because of those days.

As I've said, I look forward to seeing the Bleacher journo at Sunderland on Saturday. Won't hold my breath. Several of our football stories that day alone had more views than the Bleacher one, so not sure where you've got 'no doubt' about that from. And I certainly am not on here 'every day' insisting anything.

Danny
I have utmost admiration for your balanced responses on this forum. I really don't understand the ignorance and vindictiveness towards your good self or the Star.
WTF do these people read? Bleacher?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make there. As someone that will not be focused in covering a particular club, it's extremely unlikely the journalist will be there as well you know. That'll be the nature of his role. The fact they won't be covering United this weekend shouldn't be a slight against the journalist in question (which is how it reads as you've raised it).

In many ways this piece is strengthened because it's not been led by local press. It would be very easy for claims of local bias towards United to be laid if it had been done by local press. The fact it's been done by someone with no affiliation to the club does give it more credibility as an independent piece (albeit their longstanding link to CW does slightly counteract that).

Absolute full credit to Danny04 for taking it on the chin and giving some back. It is what the forum is really here for.

Sadly, it is a shitrag. The fact that it was once a very decent local paper makes it all the more sad, for ex readers like myself.

I have no problem with Danny04 though.

It's no slight at the journo, who produced an excellent piece. I fear this'll drag on and on and frankly I'm bored of it, so I'll leave it. If you're interested further, PM me

Thanks, RealMcCoy. It's an interesting one. If you have an issue with the paper, fair enough - don't read it. That's freedom of choice. But it goes beyond that at times... a bit like your train running late and abusing brownie on here :D

I do know of at least one other poster on here who has written for The Star about United ...thank fuck he hasn't announced it! :D

I have to say I largely agree about The Star, but that isn't Danny04 's fault. As I have travelled around, local papers I think in general are in decline. You should read some of the drivel in the Holderness Gazette for example!

I suspect Danny is just like anyone of us, if someone slates your work (justified or not) you might get a bit defensive. I have often been guilty of this when someone has slated some of the things I sell at Antique & Collectors Fairs.

But at the end of it all, Danny is a Blade like the rest of us.

Yeah but I clicked on "Woman Terrified by Cat" a few times just to help your numbers :)

There seems to be a myth that I blindly defend everything - when actually, I just try and correct things that aren't true. There's a lot about the industry I hate as much as everyone else does. But I haven't signed up to a journalism forum!

You should have realised by now that the forum is manned by experts in all subjects - football, finance, politics. elf&safety, tree-conservation and yes, even journalism!
Most of us can cover everything :)

I'm sorry if I implied that you blindly defended everything, that wasn't my intention mate.

It does appear that if you're open about any affiliations to organisations that you suddenly become a lightning rod for all criticisms aimed at them – I'm sure Danny04 was aware of that when he stated it. I doubt he's the only member of the media on the forum – but seemingly the only one willing to say that they are. I doubt looking at some of the exchanges with him from some forum members that this will encourage many others to follow suit...
