No one stated the stated the Cole, Quina or Sinclair bids were 'pretend' did they Tunstall Fred

Why are you having a go at Fred when the other guy has moaned all summer? Here he is insinuating it was pretend:

We agreed a price but then his club raised it

We agreed a price but then his agent wanted a backhander

These are the new "fax wasn't working" excuses.
They can't use that one again can they

They are also sticking with their prediction of Bolton to be bottom due to their financial problems and transfer restrictions.

And, most importantly of course, they are fucking shite.

I know Parkinson got them out of League One which 5 managers failed to do for us, but I'm so glad we didn't appoint him when we were interested.

No doubt, but due to the lack of overall decent investigative journalism at The Star, it's unlikely we'll ever see anything vaguely close to a good piece about either the Blades or Wednesday. I understand that who you know, and for how long, plays it's part in bringing this about, but the time when The Star may have had decent sport's reporting, enabling anything close to this piece to be considered, well those days are long behind us. It's a shame as I'm still one of those who hoped that my local paper might at least reflect the curiosity of either set of supporters in wanting to know what actually happens behind the scenes at their club.

Genuine question, did you read the stuff on Deadline Day? I'm on holiday but read a few pieces I found genuinely fascinating and informative

I asked him to provide some proof back his claims up, 'specifically, where has anyone stated the Cole, Quina or Sinclair bids were 'pretend'?'
He couldn't, so I called bullshit.

Is that 'having a go at someone'?
I'd suggest not.

Why have you linked linked a reply from JJBlade to an entirely different player, Ricky Holmes, as 'proof' here?

Curiouser and curiouser...

To be fair, expecting The Star's sports journalists to have that sort of investigative journalism talent is somewhat unrealistic to what you can expect to be provided by any smallish local paper.

The whole reason for my post was to identify the irrelevance of The Star to supporters of the Blades. No doubt you'll suggest there were one or two pieces that had merit, well the problem is that I think the horse has bolted, and what could have been a newspaper that tries hard to inform and engage with it's readership, that time has gone. It would have been so easy for The Star to commit to something that got under the skin of what actually goes on at United, but instead the best that's served up is a dreary regurgitating of what The Star struggles to compete with on the internet.

Whatever you feel may have been worth reading in The Star, can you honestly suggest that it had the same relevance and interest as the video piece on United about transfer deadline day? It was light years away from anything The Star has attempted to write about, so maybe it's time to admit that even though The Star is the only local paper that writes about The Blades, it's connection with those fans is tenuous at best.

I suspect you have little to no idea of how the game works, as it's far from easy. There was a piece on deadline day outlining how the entire process works. Why would the local paper hole themselves up at Shirecliffe for the entirety of Deadline Day, on the proviso they can't report anything that's happening? Bleacher can because they don't give a shit about Clayton Donaldson or Jerome Sinclair or whether Ryan fecking Leonard signs from Southend. As I've said before, I'm comfortable about reporting on United 364 days a year, not just on Deadline Day.

To be fair, it probably wasn't even what might be called 'investigative' journalism, as the context was set up for something interesting to happen, so very little genuine investigation to be done. My point is that The Star has had years to come up with something this interesting, what happened while it's readership waited?

Again, did you actually read any of the stuff written by The Star on Deadline Day?

Trouble is, the 364 days you mentioned haven't produced anything close to the interest of the Bleacher piece. Please name me a piece The Star has sanctioned in the last 364 days that equals the number of column inches that the Bleacher piece created? As a source for what's meant to be going on The Star is way behind the curve, but I guess you'll think otherwise.

How many column inches has the Bleacher piece created?

You're evading my question. But I guess being an employee of The Star means you'll defend it's fragile reputation.

Not really, I have my own mind. But that's ironic, seeing as I asked you a question almost an hour ago that you haven't answered :D

Danny, it's not irony, it's just you expecting me to respond when I have more important things to do. So I guess there'll be an example of you showing your discontent with The Star at some point? Or do you think it's doing the best job possible given that it has no other media competition locally?

That's definitely irony as you avoided my question and then accused me of the same. It does have media competition locally. And I certainly have better things to do - off for beer and tapas now.

Well for starters it had follow-up coverage from the Birmingham and Watford local press, ahead of The Star putting together its piece. The fact it's also been picked up by others (including the podcast highlighted today that isn't club-specific) should be an indication of its reach.

Hope you've paid attention Danny04, there's nowt your employer has done that has come close to the attention that Bleacher received. Or will you attempt to persuade me that this isn't the case? All in the cause of factual reporting you understand.

My story last week about the Derby fan/nob abusing Billy - with follow ups in the Derby Telegraph, and also made the Daily Mail maybe?

Yes, that story also got coverage, though can the Star claim full credit on reporting from Twitter? Correct me if I'm wrong, but every piece I've read on the Bleacher piece has credited Bleacher, as they are the only source for their unique article. Did the Derby Telegraph and the Mail credit the Star with the story, or report it straight from the original Twitter source?

As the tweet was deleted by the time they wrote their story, I'll leave that to you to decide. The Derby Tel certainly used my stuff. The Mail has form with ripping stuff off without credit, too

Great podcast, even better original video, fully agree that it's amazing that local media hadn't even considered approaching a manager clearly receptive to such an idea. Not having some of the excuses I've seen on this thread, really it would be better to hold your hands up Danny04 and say "Fair play, that was a good idea, we should strive for that quality of journalism"

It was a superb piece and video, as I have said on here and tweeted. But we'd never get the access; they'd then have to allow RS, Look North et al and there'd be journalists crawling all over the place on Deadline Day. Plus we couldn't agree to not break confidentiality because we'd need to report what's going on as it happens, not just the day after. Will you read Bleacher's preview/report before/from Sunderland, nicksufc?

The tweet or at least part of it was posted on here by Ricky the day before your exclusive.

Maybe the Derby Telegraph reporter just read it on here after you?

Maybe they did. And just happen to come up with exactly the same words in the same order at the same point in the story. That happens, right?

So you contacted Derby after seeing it on Twitter? That's fair enough.

I did ask a couple of days ago if it was a general media release by Tyrell but don't believe I got an answer. Not for the first time as well. Perhaps there are no links on that one.

Any comment on your colleagues article about Sinclairs tweets?

You were on my ignore list so probably didn't see it. But yes, that's what I did. I also think the story was fair - if a player tweets something relevant I think it's fair game. After all, it was all over here so why not report it?
Trouble is when places report exclusively by using tweets. Which we don't :)
