Hi guys,

We interviewed Ed Hawkins, the journalist who wrote the piece on Bleacher Report about Sheff Utd's Deadline Day with Chris Wilder. Hopefully you'll find it interesting on what we thought was an amazingly revelationary piece.

The interview makes up the first 20mins of the pod - links below.

Sinclair's agent comes out of that really well!

Another £5k per week wages and a 20% agents fee, FFS!

Ed Hawkins (the bloke who was with CW all day) also mentions Sinclair's previous including excuses about cars breaking down etc and also wonders whether he actually did ever get to Sheffield station.

The whole article reflects well on CW but much less well on agents. Who'd have thought it?

Good well reasoned podcast BTW from two sensible blokes.

Just subscribed. I love a Podcast and particularly enjoy Athletico Mince and The Magic Sponge, both essential listening.

Stick with it - further in they don't rate Carloss and also aren't that impressed with Wednesday's big name purchases.

They are also sticking with their prediction of Bolton to be bottom due to their financial problems and transfer restrictions.

Really enjoyed a couple of these. Would appreciate it if you could link further ones as well, as I know I'd forget to search for them ;)

Great piece. Hawkins also seems to be the only Oxford fan in existence that has a decent opinion of Wilder.

Funny thing about Sinclair not supposedly making it to Sheffield in time to play v Derby but he was seen at BL at the match (unless it was a look-a-like), so why wasn't the paperwork done then?

Nonsense,Hawkins is just a close friend of Wilder and is all part of the cover up

Covering up the fact we were putting in pretend bids, and this video is all stage managed,we never had any intention of signing the 3 players.

Have you not read this forum since deadline day?

Specifically, where has anyone stated the Cole, Quina or Sinclair bids were 'pretend'? , please link.

I've must have missed people stating that the video is 'stage managed', so if you can link to that also I'll check it out.

thanks.

Yes, I thought I had read most of the post's on the issue and didn't notice the specific post's you mention.

And well, you're the one casting aspersions..so as I say, please link specifically to the claims you've made.

I think you 'll find that Fred made that comment with more than a hint of irony intended.

Two things - firstly this confirms exactly what is wrong with football. Asking for an additional £5K per week for a player unproven and young enough to be regarded as a junior without the experience that merits this type of demand. The agent is a fucktard, greedy as they come, and seems to confuse his role as agent/mentor/career guide and whatever else is meant to reflect his role as employee, rather than employer that he confusingly thinks he is. I believe that the agent only earns from the deals he strikes, thus he's staff, nothing else, just staff, pure and simple.

Secondly - Why don't The Star, our supposed local 'newspaper', manage to do a piece this relevant to their readership? What a shower that paper is, they don't wish to rock any boats, thus they fail to act as we'd all hope they would.

The things is that with JS already having been sold by Liverpool as the 'bright young thing', he would almost certainly be on more than anyone else at the Lane. Watford may have agreed to shoulder much of this, so Mr Bigdickagent managed to louse things up quite nicely for them, us and JS.

The better agents try to help their clients develop their careers and anticipate payback down the line. it seems that the worst are like market traders; raining today so umbrellas are a tenner each.

No, but someone with a sense of humour and no anti-McCabe chip on their shoulder.

Look in the thread started by the Pig,McCabe has to go,JJBlade post 257

I see, the post below...and you're talking about people having a 'sense of humour'?

Makes you wonder how many times this stroke has been pulled over the years, upping the price agreed at the last minute, and how many times a club, desperate for a player have bitten the bullet and agreed the last minute increase, thankfully we have CW

Elsewhere I've commented on those agents who attempt to act with integrity. I used to manage musicians, so I appreciate the similarities of the roles of either type of agent. Trouble is, these days professional football has the appearance of the wild west, so whoever choose to commit daylight robbery often finds they can squeeze clubs like lemons.

I also think we're discussing the same agent who represents Sterling at Man City. Doesn't he take a healthy weekly cut from Sterling's wages? If I were Sterling I'd approach a solicitor who specialises in sports law, I'd wager that it wouldn't be long until Sterling could bounce his agent all the way to where he began. Sterling doesn't strike me a the sharpest tool in the box, but allowing an agent to take an additional weekly amount, on top of the fee he'll have received, is theft in my book.

You've been drinking with JJ

Some might say we could have easily paid the extra (it wasn't that much) but I agree with Wilders stance. Any players coming to the club have to pass the 'personality test". If they are only half hearted about coming or mercenaries going to whoever pays the most then we don't want them.

If Sinclair wants to,join us in Jan18 then he's got to prove to CW that's he genuine and serious.
He's now got to chase us, we won't be chasing him and that is how it should be.

The journalist that did the Bleacher piece has had a working relationship with him for several years, since his time at Oxford. I'm sure that factored into him being allowed the near-total level of access. I doubt that had they had the same access though it would have been written quite as well as it was.

No doubt, but due to the lack of overall decent investigative journalism at The Star, it's unlikely we'll ever see anything vaguely close to a good piece about either the Blades or Wednesday. I understand that who you know, and for how long, plays it's part in bringing this about, but the time when The Star may have had decent sport's reporting, enabling anything close to this piece to be considered, well those days are long behind us. It's a shame as I'm still one of those who hoped that my local paper might at least reflect the curiosity of either set of supporters in wanting to know what actually happens behind the scenes at their club.

Would you let a journo from The Star join you for a coffee let alone be given access to deadline day nerve centre? :D
But it highlights another important factor when you are dealing with Wilder, building a relationship with him is important, you can't just say 'BBC' and expect access.
