I've put 6th, I've had to post this, because I thought I'd voted last year, but just gone through lasts years thread and I hadn't. This is to remind me for next year.

i said in july give me 14th, 4pts off Wednesday & fa cup run. i would be over the moon. i think letting expectations run away is a bad idea. so im sticking with that

although 3 that went for the title gave me a great laugh

I reckon we'll end up somewhere aroun 10th to 14th. I got out of bed on the right side so I plumped for 10th. Reasonably content with the window, would have liked a pacy option up top and the lack of cover for Coutts and Fleck in particular could cause issues later in the season. Given we've been out of the league 6 years I think we will do just fine. I've not seen anything to make me too nervous so far.

A run of key injuries would cause us real problems as cover doesn't look great in CM or up front. Otherwise we should be mid table I'd think

Take your point. It's a tricky situation, upgrading Coutts or Fleck, i.e. someone who would come straight into the first team, would take big money (which we clearly haven't got). So we're left trying to bring in decent squad players who can fill in when called upon and push for a first team place. Leonard would have been a good option but we couldn't get it over the line and we are now looking a little thin in that department. I can see the lad Whiteman being recalled in Jan for this reason. The positive outcome is that the likes of Whiteman and Brooks can see a route into the first team which is important for their development and for us to keep hold of them. I'm glad that we have not gone down the route of getting bodies in the sake of it.

I think a few might be over reacting to the win over Derby.

For me 'expectation' should be the position you'd be slightly disappointed to finish below, based on a logical assessment of all the relevant factors and information.

Is it really reasonable to be disappointed to finish below 10th?

The question is where do 'you' expect us to finish in the league after Jim White day? The key word being 'you'.

If you wanted everyone to agree with you then you probably shouldn't have asked it.

Are you trying to say some of us aren't using logic? :)

Cardiff ripped us to bits and Middlesbrough should've.

We look strong at home but our two away games have seen one way traffic

Boro' were supposedly one of the big hitters and apart from the goal didn't force a save from Blackman. We also had a perfectly good goal disallowed. We were playing away too. Cardiff are clear leaders at the moment and are the form team. The Sunderland game will give us a clearer picture as on form we should beat them. 5th with about 75 points, yeah I'm sticking to that as our home form will see to that and our away form will pick up as the season progresses.

With the squad we have, I would expect a solid mid table so I went for 12th. However where I expect us to finish and where I think we will finish are different. I think we might surprise a few and finish anywhere up to 5th.

12th and up and I'm very happy.

We were playing away, that's what I said.

Not saying otherwise on the two, possibly two of the strongest sides we could've faced away. But still 2 losses and I think both took their foot off the gas massively after they thought the game was won.

I'd be very surprised if we finished that high.

But as per usual the like machine Tunstall Fred only needs a mention of me and he'll like it. He's quite a weird individual in that sense, must be online 24/7 but each to their own.

Gone for 18th. It's going to be a long tough season, and there won't be any easy games.

I am a little bit worried about what happens if Sharp, Coutts, Duffy or Fleck get injured or suspended

I'm not wanting everyone to agree, I'm stating an opinion and asking a question.

For me 'expectation' has to be completely fair, disregarding hope and optimism. 'Predictions' allow for those things a bit more. All things considered it wouldn't be fair to 'expect' above 10th, IMO. It wouldn't surprise me because we've got Wilder. But he'd do exceptionally well to get us that high and we shouldn't assume he will.

This guy gets it!

I'm predicting 10th, but hoping that the Wilder magic can improve on that.
I've just read last seasons prediction thread, and it appears that the slashers keep on slashing

You were saying that people were overreacting to a win over Derby which I think is being a tad harsh.

Some people might be liking what they're seeing, realising that we've started really strong at home and that CW can change what he's doing away from home as he has already shown many, many times before that he is not stubborn and can adapt. Why can't people expect us to finish higher than 10th?

We were in L1 last season. We haven't spent a lot. We've not got one of the top 10 squads, IMO. It's a strong division with at least 13 teams who'd regard finishing outside the top 10 as utter failure. Predict top 10 by all means but I don't think it's an entirely fair expectation.

11th as I originally predicted. We did as well as could be expected from the transfer window and we have compounded our team, if we could've got a couple of good strikers in I'd say we would have l kicked on but I do not want the club to gamble and lose again. Sinclair would've been a good purchase, I see his agent has had a bad reputation for at least 2 years now. Next window fore warned is fore armed.

No team has any devine right to finish in the top ten, you have to earn it.

From what I've seen so far, I can see why people think we'll finish higher than 10th, whether we do or not depends on how we apply ourselves from now until the end of the season.

The question if asked at the start of the season will have been answered differently in most cases but the goalposts have moved now and you've asked it now and where we are positioned in the league at the minute, coupled with our brilliant home performances then these are just two of the reasons people are expecting better now. We need a bit of luck with injuries and no daft suspensions to aid peoples expectations.

Everyones expectations will be different throughout life, this is no different.

Clearly the narcotic that was our hard earned win with a few decent breaks against Derby has swayed a few, bearing in mind only one of our players has scored in the championship this season and historically a team needs just short of 50 points to stay up, sometimes 55, sometimes 42, I've gone for 21 st. With little up front other than Billy nor midfielders that chip in this season or can shoot enough that's alot of eggs in one basket and I suspect we could be borderline survivors come the end of the season with a normal share of good and bad luck. Hope we do better but just goin on what I've seen for decades and where we are after subtracting the overly optimistic hype, but still hope we go for it every game of course, the timid don't survive.

A very difficult call for any piggy infiltrators is this.

Do they post '1st' so they can run back to NKT and say "Guess what, loads of wanky Blades are saying they will finish top...."

Or do they post 24th to try to drag the mood down and make us a feel pessimistic that fellow 'Blades' think we'll go down?
