Will just leave this one here, but if Wilder can turn Coutts then I wonder what he could do with Baxter...
Everton have signed him for there under 23's, they offered him contract like 5 months ago. They feel that they let him slip and want to give him a second chance

if ever there was a player who defined the saying hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work hard it's Jose Baxter

Off-the-field problems aside, Jose at his best was a skilful centre foreward with vision and an excellent pass - but even at his best I could see him being too lightweight for Championship football where he would probably get less time on the ball. He's young though, and could still develop further. The "lazy" comments aren't entirely correct. He was often handy when he got back to defend. Hope he manages to live up to his early potential, but it won't be with us.
You maybe right about Baxter but lightweight he certainly is not.

Wouldn't want this guy within a 10 mile radius of Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane ever again! I took my Daughter to watch us play Stags in the Capital One Cup, sat front row and watched him bite one of the players..... A poor example of a professional, a poor example of a player and completely agree with the comment above about him being a lazy fat fucker.

He was just keeping his blood sugar levels up

Not for me.

There are lads up and down the country that would bleed for the chances he has had.
Give his slot at Everton or every other club in the land to someone who respects what they have and make the most of the chance.

It's his third chance....he deserves to be made to work for a living and regret the fact he didn't make the most of it.

In short. Fuck him

Not sure I fully agree but it's hard to argue with you griz

on purely footballing terms without a doubt. Baxter was an outstanding player. just watch him week after week in tje central midfield. & some of quality balls he would ping were great to watch. who can forget that 50yd inch perfect ball to sharp at bradford if messi had done that it wouldve been lauded. yes he has off pitch problems but if had focus easily a mid table premier league player

without starting argument but inevitable when you mention "voldermort" but i find it weird that people villify Jose Baxter but then ched a hero's welcome

If anyone could handle him, it's Wilder. The same people who could see a player in Coutts can't see this in Baxter?

There's definitely a player in there, but his head is fucked. Always will be. Not sure why he has it, but that attitude will never be sorted out.
It's not a case of just a kick up the arse cos he's lazy, he's actually got a destructive and addictive personality, that recognises what's right and wrong but still chooses to do the wrong thing.
Coutts is a totally different character.

No coutts doesn't gamble with his passes, he's 10 times the player Baxter is, every Baxter pass is a gamble 1 in 10 might come off and looks great but he gives the ball away the other 9and his vision workmate and temperament are awful. I couldn't give a fuck about his off field activities unless affects utd and he took the piss many times. Most over rated player at the lane in 2 decades.
100% cunt.

I like Jose as a player and he comes across as a decent kid although not the brightest if honest! I think the best thing for him is to get a club in league 2 or 1 and re-build his career and go from there. What with Brooks coming through I don't think we need to take a gamble on Baxter, although it wouldn't be much of a gamble as his wages would be small and no transfer. He's off to Everton Academy isn't he though?

Also the one thing we need, more than anything, is pace. Baxter won't give that. It's a no from me. Wish him all the best though.

Baxter was one of the best techincal players I've seen at BL in years. OK, he occasionally didnt get passes right, but when he did, he could open a defence up. He also has goals in him, which Coutts (for example) doesnt have, and could turn a game. His problem is he is clearly a moron. If he can grow up, and stop throwing his career away, he would get in a Championship side. But I'm not sure whether he will ever grow up.

He's been training all summer, and played for Everton's U23s last week (following an injury at the end of pre-season). I think however, he has burned too many bridges here for him to ever return. Nor does he deserve to come back. But he did contribute to us when here with some good moments, and let's not forget, was the first player to score for us at Wembley in god knows how long.

I wish him all the best as all young lads make mistakes and learn from them. I hope he does the same.

I don't disagree regards his footballing ability but the bloke is 25 years old and has had more than one chance, he's not a young kid anymore and has took the piss out of many people including our own fans.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be able to get on with his life but to be still privileged at being a pro footballer after what he's done and for David Unsworth to say he deserves another chance sort of typifies how our beautiful game has gone.

There are better people and more importantly, probably better players out there who would give their left bollock to have the chances he's had, he made a right mug out of us.

Have ever tried visiting on a match day? :D ;)

Though seriously, I could see he had a natural talent (totally wasted), but I guess it depends on your definition of technical. I'd describe Kevin McDonald as a better technician in most regards, and he was a contemporary.

Wrongfully imprisoned innocent man desperate to make a career for himself upon his release who had been absolutely sensational for us in the run up to his imprisonment v repeat offender who gives the impression of just wanting to toss it off. Baxter also never really lit up our team the way Evans did in his last season. He showed flashes but never looked a consistently good performer and wilfully took the piss out of us paying fans with his attitude.

I suspect he’ll end up somewhere like Accrington, Morecambe, Tranmere etc. If he’s lucky, Oldham might have him back.

i have no problem with him playing football now. here or anywhere. credit where credit is due to him. hes had good start & i finally figured out during derby game what leaves a sour taste with me. is the fans acted like hes mother theresa when ever hes on the pitch. there are members of team that won the title last season. that won the league by 14pts. that dont get the reception that he does.

but come on he had 1 good season in 3 & cost us promotion because he of his stupidity we couldnt hit a barn door afterwards & also he legally innocent undoubtedly, morally its grey because despite him "loving his girlfriend very much" it doesn't take a genius to work out that he wasnt going to the hotel in wales, to have a game of scrabble or play monopoly.

Some valid points in there, some of which I agree with. The over the top adulation compared to some like say, Sharp, Duffy, Basham etc. doesn’t really sit right with me given what they have done for our club. There are a lot of strong feelings on both sides regarding his circumstances and many people (myself included to some extent) felt aggrieved when we didn’t re-sign him on his release due to the baying mob. That probably adds something to reception he gets.

1 good season?- I’d say one sensational season and that he wasn’t bad the season before (young lad contributing 9 goals in a dreadful team that was relegated with a whimper).

I agree his conduct was far from virtuous. But he did something stupid when he was pissed on a night out (that has now found not to be criminal) and paid an absolutely enormous price for it. Baxter has done something stupid at least 4 times (marijuana possession, 2 failed drugs tests and the xmas party incident in Ireland) without ever having a season anywhere near the one Ched had and has served nothing like the level of punishment Ched has and has been given multiple chances over that time and failed to grab them.

So yes, I think it’s valid criticising the Evans reception compared to some of last season’s heroes. But the original point was about Evans and Baxter. In that comparison, I think there is plenty of justification for Evans getting the better reception of the 2.

Ah so that's what BL is for! Playing matches on match day! I must visit sometime.

It's a shame about Baxter with his off field problems for me...he would have been great in Duffy's role under Chris and better players around him.
I know he had flaws...not the most mobile, and not great without the ball, but certainly had talent,I can't understand people who say he didn't...I enjoyed watching him,he took risks;always looking to move the ball quickly and be positive...yeah he went square sometimes, but that's when there wasn't anything on,and we often didn't have a threat in behind as an option.
I thought he played the false 9 role well under Clough and did a decent job playing deeper in a one paced Adkins side...That pass to Sharp at Bradford was brilliant.
Whether he's a complete knobhead or just someone who needs help I don't know, but he wasn't bad on the pitch.

Virtually his entire "career" in League One, why would we want him in the Championship ?

The last thing I want to see is him giving the ball away and looking yards off the pace.

Jake Wright anyone?

Jake Wright anyone?
who doesn't give the ball away and look yards off the pace. He is in fact a consummate professional.

Baxter won't play in the Championship because he isn't good enough, Wright is.
