Billy Sharp transfer interest?

Not being funny or trying to put a downer on things, but I can't help wonder whether some other championship or even lower premier league club might fancy a punt on him.

He's always had a good scoring record and never relied on pace too much so age shouldn't be too much of an issue. It sort of reminds me of Daryl Murphy, he went to Newcastle for £12 million to help them over the line at the age of 32 after a good scoring rate with Ipswich and hate to say it but I see no reason why a situation like this couldn't occur with Billy if he keeps this form up.

So what price? He's not a £10 million player but that's how much he is worth to us, in terms of getting a replacement in and the fact he is club captain and obviously a pivotal player.

As an aside, it looks like the Nigel Adkins experience was almost worth it for this signing alone!

I'm just happy you've managed one that's not about Ched Evans...

I've been given some insults in my time hahaha yes I did used to post on the dark side but then so did many ;)

Again another poster saying the thread is stupid but not expanding on it, how insightful :)

WTF are you blathering on about "the dark side"'

First you piss off half the board with your OP now youre slagging a Blades forum.
Got a bit fucking big for your boots dude.

It was a joke don't worry :) really appreciated 'my time' there with the posters and moderators who ran it, though BM has been referred by some on here somewhat negatively hence the ironic joke. Which obviously fell flat XD

Pleased to hear that.
Re your OP I don't think Billy has any interest in going anywhere. He's at home, comfy and loved. Sometimes players stay where they are happy. Not common I grant you,but I think that's our boy Billy.

Good stuff! I'm sure that he doesn't have interest in going anywhere, but would be surprised if there wasn't a bigger club interested in signing him. This question applies to many of our players, as another poster mentioned they really aren't seen as that 'fancy' though they are very effective of course. Makes a nice change, under the radar success, I like it!

Why are you wanting us to pay over the odds on our contracts? Striking a good deal or playing hardball as you call it, is exactly what we should be doing and the player must have been happy else he wouldn't have signed it.
If he scores goals and plays well then that is what we're paying him for. If Billy's got a goal bonus included then great I hope he gets it, as we all win, but your view of fairness, wanting not to give him more for doing what he should be is nonsense.

Screwing a player on wages because of his known allegiance to the club is not only unfair but could come back to bite us in the arse. If he carries on the success he has had so far this season then it would be normal for him to look around to see what other proven scorers in the division are being paid.

We expect loyalty from players and have to return it by respecting the fact that the player has to protect the future of himself and his family.

How was he screwed, we paid a jointly agreeable amount?
To look to renegotiate a new deal after a couple of games is nonsense. Billy's just doing what he should be doing.
Using your argument but turning it on it's head, if a player signs a new deal but then loses form do they have to offer us a rebate or to reduce their terms? What if they get injured, do we not have to pay?

Contracts are agreed on all sides before being signed and no one was stitched up or taken advantage of.

I think we need to worry about keeping Billy injury free.

Hes going no were else.

Daryl Murphy didn't go for 12m :D

Total fee (wages, signing on amount, promotion bonuses etc) was roughly £6 million, I was wrong with the figure but the comparison is fair .If a team went in with that bid for Billy we'd tell them to go do one I hope, quite rightly. 12m is roughly what we should ask for.

As some are still too thick to understand, I never suggested that he is looking for a move merely suggested that other clubs might be interested in moving him.

I have at no time suggested renegotiating his contract now. It is a fact that Sharp was initially disappointed with the offer and took time before signing the contract. My only point is that if he proves a success then there should be incentives that sees him rewarded inline with other proven strikers in this league.

It's not a fact though as far as I'm aware, it was a rumour started by Sunjihi. I can't recall a story or comment which confirmed it.
We can't complete, and shouldn't look to with paying the same as others. I've not problem with him having a deal at the top end of our wage structure, but we shouldn't break it to keep up with others. Our team thrives on the collective, and it's one of our greatest strengths under Wilder. If you want to play for Sheffield United these are the terms, if you don't, then thanks for your time and we wish you the best for wherever you end up but it's not going to be here.

Don't know why the OP is getting stick for the post, unless it's something they've done previously.

I think it's a fair point, Sharp has scored 20+ goals in his last two seasons and is now on 4 league goals already this season in a higher division. He also has a good record in the championship (even though pigs reckon he hasn't). Leeds played him upfront on his own & Blackwell played him on the wing so not fair to judge him on seasons with us or them in the champ. Yet we don't hear of any interest in him, any other player who has scored like he has would be linked with every club after a striker.

Is it his age, is it his known commitment to us or something else?

Would we sell him? Probably if someone offered a decent fee, we aren't known for saying no to transfers.

Would he go? I don't think so, he's obviously happy here, in great form and happy with his role of captain.

Its quite funny actually, if you google the words 'Billy Sharp transfer' this thread turns up on the first page on the 7th link down XD

Football forums are great for the most part, but I'm genuinely staggered by some of the reaction to what I wrote. If people are abusive, fine be abusive back to them. I wasn't being abusive here, clearly. If people are being stupid (for the sake of argument let's say that I was), explain why they are wrong and contribute constructively to the debate to persuade otherwise, rather than just personally attacking them or just insult/belittling what they say. We all know that it leads to a better world. I don't mind flak on here, but know others who are put off posting due to the toxic atmosphere that can be generated.

There's an excellent article I'd recommend everyone read on this subject here:

Don't worry FMBlade1 AKA - Ched, once you are back fit you will get the chance and it will be at the side of Billy :)

Here are all of Billy's Championship goals.

Sheffield United - 12 in 58
Doncaster - 44 in 98
Southampton - 9 in 15
Nottingham Forest - 10 in 39
Reading - 2 in 10
Leeds - 5 in 33

So that's 82 goals in 253 matches.

It's a solid record but not prolific by any stretch of the imagination.

His League One record is much better of course.

I shouldn't imagine that Billy will need the money a big offer will bring, he should be more than comfy here and will want to be happy now more than anything.

He hated being on the bench for Leeds on all those occasions, there's not much chance of that happening here.

He'll be getting paid handsomely enough and is absolutely loving it, he'd be crackers to risk anything by fucking off from here.

Highly unlikely he would want go anywhere. He'll know what he means to the club and fans. A position any of us would dream of, can't imagine it'll be any different for him. Would also like to think it would take a absurd amount before we'd even think of selling.

Which pretty much proves what many have said.

A solid (1 in 3) championship performer, with an unrivalled L1 record to back this up.

Can't be all that bad. Can he ?

Surely this won't have gone unnoticed for 10 years, and that there would be admirers aplenty ?

Agreed and I know you can't fudge with the stats as anyone can change them to suit their argument but I did mention he had disappointing spells with us and Leeds as the respective managers did not have a clue how to play him. Take those spells out and it's a more prolific looking 69 in 167 games or 0.41 goals per game ratio.

I know the forum is where we discuss any and everything, but forgive this test of my patience with the OP. As things are going well, as we find our feet in a division that we've been away from for far too long, and then someone suggests that Sharp might want to move elsewhere? Do me a fucking favour! Do you really want our most prolific player to leave, and if so, why? Nearly everything is in place for this club to take the next step up. It may not be this season, but we're in fine fettle, we're under great management, we're getting excellent crowds, home games are great affairs, and the atmosphere is rocking. Can anyone explain why someone would suggest something so daft?
