26,202 the biggest crowd in the Championship this weekend, beating Forest v Leeds and Middlesbrough v Preston. In fact the only bigger crowds were at Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle. Not quite so 'disappointing' in that context!

Good crowd but we've done ourselves out of a shitload of money and it being even bigger by not giving Derby more tickets.
Given the choice between 3,000 more away fans and 500 home fans in an otherwise empty top tier, I'll take the seats for our own every time. Fair enough there was spaces elsewhere in the ground yesterday, but for me we should keep it home fans only unless we know we won't be anywhere near selling out.

Our crowds have held up better than i could have imagined in recent years.

I'm certainly not knocking the club for giving BLUT to our fans at all, but if we hadn't then Derby would have probably brought 2k plus more and we'd be talking nearly 30k.

Agreed. Fuck Derby or anybody else. Points for us are what matter. If we carry on as we are we'll fill the ground without away fans, much like the Chez match.

Would they shut the Wesfield and segregate the John Street and South stand more if we gave our opponents the upper tier? If so, it's completely understandable that's it's kept for home support.
I'm not sure but it does seem daft to not bring more money in when the situation arises.

I appreciate that but as I said above, it just seems daft as we're basically chucking money down the drain.

We wouldn't give them the full 3,000 in the upper tier.

We'd do what we did with Scunthorpe last season by giving them 2,200 in the upper tier and 2,300 in the bottom tier. There would be 800 empty seats in the upper tier and that would be the no mans land allowing us to use the Westfield corner as normal.

Actually.......regards the Westfield corner stand....it was officially sold out against Brentford and Barnsley
And almost sold out against Derby apart from about 50 seats scattered about towards the back.

HOWEVER in all 3 games there's been a batch of about 100 empty seats right in the middle at the front.

Looks to me that SY Safety Committee have reduced the capacity in the Westfield Corner by 100, for some reason.

Never mind the upper tier , we don't even give them the whole of the lower tier , despite netting off the nearest bit of the SS.
I just can't understand this.
Surely , with the big screening cover on the end of the SS , we don't have to keep 500 seats empty in the lower tier ?

Essential we keep the BLUT for home fans,as the season develops attendances will increase, and if you don't want to sit on the Kop it's the only alternative. It is important we look after our own, even if in the short term we lose a little revenue, 2k away supporters is plenty for most clubs anyway,if not f**k 'em !

I'm surprised at the attitude of some, given the approbation towards MK Dons when they did not give us all the seats we deserved

If we had a stadium of 30,000 and averaged 11,000 then I would understand this point, but we don't. It's about what is right for the club. At the moment it is obvious that SYP have too much of a say on capacity, with a block of seats in the corner, the first two rows of BLUT, and areas of JS and SS netted off. If we had away fans in the upper tier it is likely that policing costs would spiral, and therefore any potential profit from more away fans would be minimal, at the cost of pissing off ST holders in the BLUT and also limiting tickets to home fans in all areas of the stadium.

Don't forget that it is still holiday season. Expect the amount the of blades at games to increase once September begins.

Why should we surrender nearly 5.5k seats to away fans every week? When nobody else in the league does?
Ive sat on all sides of BDTBL and BLUT is still the best place to watch football inside the lane. I have a season ticket where Westfield corner meets BLUT. It's the best seat I've had in years. I'd sooner have Blades up there than some angry cunts doing the "crucifix stance" at me.
Those seats will fill up eventually and they are there when Blades (casuals or not) need them.
We've played 2 unfashionable teams at home and 1 big club on the last bank holiday of the year, the need for tickets will only increase.

Derby sold out in under two days and they would've sold 5,000 comfortably, just averaging things out at £20 a ticket for just another 2,000 tickets is £40k which far outweighs what it would cost for the extra stewarding and it is probably Coutts, Flecks and Sharps wages for a couple of weeks, if we can afford to do that then fine.

There would be not far off a double figure amount of clubs that would bring 5,000 to the lane this season if given the chance and we will not sellout in those fixtures unless we were top, taking all this into consideration we'll be doing ourselves out of roughly £500k at a minimum from being too stubborn and saying fuck the other clubs, now how fucking stupid is that?

There's clubs and fans alike that haven't been to the lane for a few years if ever at all, why not give as many fans as possible the chance to experience our great ground and magnificent city and what is said by many I speak to one of the best away days in the country?

Also South Yorkshires"finest" will always vote for a "half and half" Bramall lane end, above an extra 3k away fans in town.

Exactly.

The issue appears to be the Disabled enclosure. It has been decided that we don't want away fans in the seats behind the Disabled enclosure. That is perfectly understandable but, that being the case, why the hell haven't we re-located the Disabled enclosure to, say, the front of the John Street stand near to the Kop?

It beats me why the Disabled enclosure was ever put at the Lane end which has invariably been used by away fans, anyway. Surely, supporters in that section would much prefer to sit amongst the home fans?

Keep it for our fans. Who cares if Derby fans haven't been to Bramall Lane for x number of years?

I'm not convinced the financial gain is worth it. Deducting any cost of additional stewarding, police etc. wouldn't leave much of a profit and only add to any atmosphere the away fans can create.

The upper tier will fill up as the season goes on. Don't we give away thousands of tickets away to students, or at least that's what Pig fans tell me. They're not here yet.

There is a disabled enclosure on John Street. The one on Bramall Lane is for away fans.

Fuck em. Who in this league are going to give us 5.5k away tickets? The piggies are only giving us 2.7k in a bigger ground.
BDTBL is a wonderful place with blades on all for sides. I don't give a monkey's about away fans. I go to the lane to watch the better teams not the "better" fans.

A somewhat different situation, though.

MK Dons have a ground that holds 30,000 and rarely attract above 7,000 home fans.

We have a ground where, if you exclude the Lane End, there are approximately 23,500 seats with what can be considered a 'good' view: 7,500 in the South, 9,000 on the Kop, 2,000 in the South/Lane end corner and 5,000 in the John Street. At present, we can count on a consistent home demand, even for unattractive games, of 23-24,000 per match. For the more attractive fixtures it will be higher.

If we hand the Lane end over to away fans, we are effectively forcing our own fans into rubbish (often restricted view) seats. Why should our own fans, in our own ground, have to sit behind posts on the Kop or on the South side of the Kop where the view includes 2 stanchions obscuring different parts of the pitch, or sit in the bottom corner of the John Street or South Stand, when there are fantastic viewing seats in the Bramall Lane upper?

I know fans who have passed on attending matches in the past because the only tickets remaining in the home stands, when the Lane upper and lower was given to away fans, were 'restricted view' for 25 sheets upwards. You can hardly blame them. Moreover, I believe the club are aware of this and that is why they are now doing what they are doing with the Lane end and it is absolutely the right thing to do.

And that's before we even get into questions about the effect that having a whole end of away fans (in the stand - Lane end upper - with the best acoustics in the ground) has on the atmosphere when we want home games to be proper 'home games', to help the team win more matches.

anyone know the situation with the last couple of blocks on John Street towards the away end? The ticket office website has this marked as "unavailable" but it wasn't sold out Saturday and I cant believe is already sold out for Norwich. My Dad is 85 so struggles with Kop and BLUT, and South stand is virtually sold out to season tickets.

We should have given away fans the top tier and corner and put home fans in the bottom tier. Maybe revert it against Wednesday. Bit silly imo to sell season tickets up there.

We can never give away fans the Westfield corner stand because the exit comes out into the South stand.

The player's complimentary tickets are located in that area, not sure how many seats that makes up, but could explain it.

Wasn't aware of that. Maybe we should just give away fans the corner and the south stand then. Ridiculous to be selling season tickets in the South Stand.
