Not been to Endcliffe for yonks. Used to go fishing in the pond - plenty of trout in there. No idea if people still go fishing there.

No they don't. I doubt if the two ponds could support fish like trout as hundreds of tons of leaf litter have fallen from the surrounding trees. Lots of ducks and Canada Geese, tho'.

Well, they've let Endcliffe Park and Forge Dam fall into almost complete disrepair over the last twenty years, surely there's no reason to switch the tree-fellers 400 yards from Rustlings Road.....

Nah GBS, can't see that happening. If we had a city replete with manicured parks and well maintained leisure facilities there would be a lot less for the council to blame the Tories for!

Surely the council could do something about it ????????

Not really, it would be a massive job and would disturb the wildlife. They 'de-silted' Forge Dam years ago and it eventually returned 'back to nature'. I've often wondered how deep the leaf litter is at the bottom of these various lakes - I certainly wouldn't jump in to help someone in distress.

Can't say I'd want to see anglers in Encs. anyway. The hooks, shot, discarded lines and general sadness of anglers :D would be a danger to the ducks and spoil the incredible tranquil nature of Sheffield's 'Central Park'.

Not really very central though is it? I do like Endcliffe Park and have spent many a happy hour in there when the kids were young especially. Doing that walk, or cycle, through the park up to Forge Dam and back. I agree with your comments about anglers. They are best left to fish in places where you don't have significant numbers of walkers, joggers, cyclists passing by. Let them go out to some huge pond in the middle of nowhere, where they can be in total silence and stare into space for hours on end.

Are new pictures allowed . I commissioned this painting of my lot looking down on my club and my city , been a long time coming but I love it View attachment 28377
If I could find the picture from when I lived on Skyedge , from our living room window that's the view you got .
A unhindered view sweeping into Sheffield and the Lane .
You get the same view now with all the tower blocks gone , when walking off arbour , down into Norfolk park ,
an unhindered view of Sheffield , that right Brooky ;)
Great for night games with the floodlights on . The Lane at its finest .
Great painting btw .

You also got a similar view from Park Hill.

When we used to go nesting / egging , we'd get the 88 all the way up to Fulwood and walk all the way down to Endcliffe park , crossing over the road for the last bit of the journey through Endcliffe park ,
Innocent happy times , and all for tupence ,
51 ? out to Lodge moor was another great day out ,
You'd be gone all day , and your Ma or da wouldn't bat an eyelid as to where you'd been .
Also Bakewell , Retford , Treeton ( for the swans eggs ) . Norfolk Park , the list is endless .
Jesus , such innocent times .

True Mick , once you got the height so to speak , all that side ( our ) side of the city
the views now are even more scenic , now all them flats are gone from Norfolk park , would have taken a few pictures last time I was home only battery on phone was almost gone . :(
Maybe next time .

We don't really have a council anymore. We have a bunch of councillors who are completely up their own behinds whilst Amey appear to do whatever they want to for the lowest cost and the least effort.

Traditionally someone from the works or parks dept would know about the ponds in the park and get it sorted every year. Austerity has been a neat way to get all those people laid off so that an other big faceless corporation can pick up a rediculously long contract.

As undoubtedly popular as this thread is,since the more recent subject matter is nothing to do with the Blades, is it time that it moved to "General Chat"?

Yes. Lost 2-0. Nicky Chatterton challenging Sabella with Dave Swindlehurst, who scored in the match, looking on (Mike Elwiss was the other scorer)
Two things I remember bout this game , one it's in September ( close to my birthday ) we always get beat when I go and it's close to my birthday , and for some reason there fans stood on John street terrace well ,,
they did until they scored , then watching it unfold from the Kop .

Treat them to a "rum baba" or "brown derby" in the hope of getting something more than a snog at the bus stop in return.

I dread to think what one of those entailed but if the end result made it worthwhile it then you should post the details on this forum for all to share!

Look no roof , did everyone fall for that trick at one stage ,
shifted a lass in there , She asked for a whiskey and orange at the bar , that's a strange mix , not as strange as me and thee , well what could I do .
The Stone Housr was the height of sophistication in my early drinking days - but that didn't count for much when the next pub we went to was always the Buccaneer :)

To even think of of going on the West Terrace back then would be disrespectful
To trespass would be suicide.
