Attendance for Leicester?

But your suggestion was sell 100 to away fans (higher associated cost), rather than 500 or so home fans.

I want the club to prosper too and in the scenario you provided, there would be a negative affect.

Derby on Saturday may be different, as they would be likely to sell the top tier, but we may come close yet too.
My 100 was just an example, I envisage it being more than that.

There were no where near 500 Blades fans in the upper tier on Saturday, they should be housed elsewhere then to save opening up the upper tier, that would save us money, even if we aren't going to give them to the away fans.

I admit that I might not have put my point across very well before but hopefully you can see what I mean now.

Disagree generally, for the sole reason that having stands closed for league games looks a bit shit. If only 500 tickets are sold for the BL Upper, just open one food outlet and reduce the number of stewards. No need to close the thing entirely.

Just heard Shakespeare on Sky saying it will be a full house and a very partisan crowd

What planet is he living on ?

Blades win.
How do I know this? I live and work in Leicester...and what do I see just as I arrive at work? A big HGV carrying roof trusses, courtesy of Arnold Laver. Nailed on win for the mighty RAWW.

Looks like it's going to be a pitiful attendance looking at the online sales. Only the front central areas of the South Stand have considerably more tickets sold than available. We'll have about 75 fans on the Kop.

United clearly don't want any on the day walk-ups/pay on the day as illustrated by this policy. Not sure if this is more "advice" from SYP or the club's idea but they're obviously doing their best to stop it.

Is it just the downside of the automated turnstiles meaning everyone has to queue at the ticket office and they can't cope? If it is there must be something they can do as they're just turning money down.

I honestly don't know the reason for increasing prices on the day of the game. If anyone knows I'd be interested to hear.

Presumably the club want to cut down on matchday ticket office queues, which is understandable.

I don't know why they can't just do cash on turnstile or open up a few small ticket booths around the ground for low risk/low demand games like this. As you say, it's turning money away.

For bigger/higher demand games then it couldn't be done as it would give away fans the chance to go in the home end.

He probably read the Times article linked to in another thread, which claims there will be a near-full house at the Lane tonight. The presumption is that tens of thousands of Blades fans will be eager to see their team against Leicester, former PL Champions and media darlings. It's a bit patronising really. The journo who wrote the Times article obviously never checked facts - just presumed that we'll all be turning out en masse because we're playing Leicester's second X1.

A few years ago Leicester were playing in a shitty stadium with one stand that looked like a shed, and getting lower attendences than us. Not long ago they declared insolvency, avoided their old debts and started afresh with new investors. They had a brilliant season and won the PL but then, so did Blackburn. They're nowt special.

People tuning in to Sky tonight might wonder what happened to everyone.

Piss poor if we don`t break 15k.

We haven`t got the support to keep denying away fans upper tier, can`t weigh this up at all.

The ticket office queue is the only reason I can see for increasing prices on a match day for a really busy game however Ive got an ST and Id just be activating it for tonight so no queuing needed. They simply dont want many there tonight by the looks of it

I am not sure we will break 10k. Leicester are believe are only bringing 1.5k tops. There wont be 8.5k blades in the ground. The kop looks like about a couple of hundred have been sold. I estimate around 7-8,000 tops. It might be less

I really don't know why anybody would be suprised that the gate will be c.11,000 tonight.

The League Cup remains an abysmally supported competition just as it has been throughout its history. The only opposition that could conceivably attract a good crowd in the early rounds of this competition would be one of the small group of real glamour clubs. Even then, I would suggest that you could narrow it down further to just a Man U fixture that would have a chance of filling the ground. The fact that its on TV too is the crowning turd on any hopes of getting anything like a reasonable turnout.

I'm going, because there's a match at the Lane and I'm in the habit of going whenever we play. I'd be lying if I said I was particularly excited about traipsing up and down the M1 for a League Cup match tonight, though. I can understand why plenty of others clearly aren't going.

This is where I disagree and has been my point all along, why not fill the rest of the ground with our fans and do exactly what you're saying with the away fans up there instead if the demand isn't too high from our end? Hence one food kiosk open etc etc? It just doesn't make sense commercially.

I'd be surprised if the attendance breaks 10,000. Why would it? I doubt many 2nd round League Cup games have ever broken that figure, and the fact it's on sky means there's even less chance.

Sadly, think you`ll be right, just the 100% Blades tonight.

Wonder if any of the loyalty point moaners are going?

i'm unable to get to the lane tonight as it's impossible for me to do midweek matches due to work commitments. I'd do my utmost to be there otherwise!. COYRWW.

Went to the last cup game. No increase cost with pay on the day. Long que though. They were still queuing half way round the car park just before kick off. Looks like they don't want pay on the day tonight then. Will be looking for someone showing the game in Tenerife after tea. Hope somewhere is showing it.

I'm not going. So I must not be 100%. I did go to Cardiff but another £30 for three of us means I will buy a bag of chips, have a beer and watch on the sofa. Many will do the same. Terrible I know. If it was not on TV I may have gone but with both managers stating there intentions I think a lot will be put off.

Being serious ive not beem arsed with this cup or the checkatrade for a few years. They are now games where reserve teams play. I can watch academy/u23s for nowt at different points of the season and will do seeing young talent v young talent. Usually at such games you see some hungry players on show where as tonight will be mostly your old fashioned stiffs (players not deemed good enough for the first teams). I enjoy those games but both managers clearly not arsed with this competition (can see why) makes it odd for Sky to cover. Theyd been better picking a league 2/1 v prem where they would play first teamers.

I am surprised this competition is still going. The crowds it gets and the lack of interest from most teams (just heard Mick McCarthy say he will play a different at Palace) renders it all a bit pointless. Or maybe its just me?

The FA cup does little for me these days, let alone the League cup.

I won't be going, and I would not be going even if if wasn't on TV. I will watch it tonight and if we win, excellent, I want Sheffield United to win every game we play, if we lose then Meh! more important that we pick up no injuries or suspensions and we keep picking up points in The League.

Now if anyone thinks that rules me out of the running for being Billy Big Blade I will live with that and content myself with just having bought a season ticket every year for the last 30 odd years and up until about a decade ago travelling the county about 10 or a dozen times a year.

The league cup is a compromised competition these days anyway when most of the serious contenders don't join until the third round which is practically the quarter finals in this competition.

Add to that it's an advantage to us not giving the upper tier to away fans.

This really needs looking at. We could reasonably expect half a dozen 30k+ crowds this season with good away followings. We're cutting our noses off to spite our face. Barnsley last Saturday showed that we can't sell a third of the BLUT even for a local derby. Yes, I know Barnsley didn't sell out, but Leeds, Sunderland, the pigs and probably teams like Wolves and Villa would shift more than 2k tickets. I'm not bothered if it would inconvenience the 600-odd Blades fans who want to sit in the BLUT. Like any event that's becoming popular, they'll just have to buy tickets earlier and in areas such as JS, kop wings etc. And if it might give the away team an advantage by allowing them 3-5k visiting fans, I'm not bothered. I'd rather have that and 30k+ crowds to shut the fuck up for Wendy. This is why we've got out of Div. 3 and the 'one man and his dog' support of Fleetwood etc.

I've seen a pic from BBC sport .ground looks empty, apart from Leicester end. I'm now guessing about 6000. Can't see south stand though.

South stand and away botttom tier are both pretty full.
The rest of the ground pretty empty.
It's the 3 matches in 7 weeks keeping people away.
Seems like most have opted to go to the Derby County game on Saturday.

I totally understand it is for some, I've been there myself. But I know some season ticket holders who aren't going, just because it is on Sky.
I'm not a season ticket holder. But me and the mates still been , felt like watching a pre-season game tonight which if it hadn't been a sky would have been a lot different & better atmosphere
