On Saturday when billy came off and ched came on, I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for sharp when there was a massive roar from the crowd for Evans coming on. Not to mention the super ched songs before the substitution had even been made.
Here's a bloke who's a boy hood blade, took a big pay cut to come here, and with out him we wouldn't have got promoted last season. Yet sharp seems to be getting over shadowed by Evans who other than a few cameo appearances hasn't done anything since coming back.

For me they should both be starting as I think it could be a strong partnership, and they are our two most clinical strikers

Couldn't disagree any more to be honest.

Making something of nothing.

That's the first time most fans have seen Ched back in a Blades shirt so it was unsurprising. I don't go along with the hero worship of him at all myself but it was obvious that he was going to get that reception on his first appearance

I have to agree with the OP, i felt uneasy regards the applause Ched got probably as it was Billy the goalscorer who he was replacing, i know Billy got the ovation however couldn't help but notice the ovation Ched got

Yep people looking for something that isn't there. I saw enough fans clapping for Billy then chanting for Evans after.

One downside to having over 20,000 people in one place, is its not easy to be in sync.

I think 23k+ chanting we've got Billy Sharp following his goal will let him know what most fans think.

I picked up on the same thing sufcboy95 - it's an interesting point you raise. It may be something or nothing, but the overall feel was more for a cheer for Ched than an ovation for Billy. Billy has been and continues to be one of, if not our most important players. He's our captain and very much a key reason why we're back at this level. He's also a key reason why we have 2 wins so far.

I like your thinking, I think when Evans is fit they could form a good partnership.

Yep, although it's "summat out o' nowt" - that Scooter_mcgavin is a posh get, in't ee?

Everyone recognises Billy's contribution and he's the main man, we all know that.
I think it's just us willing to get Ched up to speed and encouraging him as opposed to discouraging Billy.
30 goals a season - that's a lot for others to aspire to.

Or Tarquin Farquaharson to my friends.

I've wondered the same to be honest.
I like Ched but he's become a bit of a cult hero where as Sharp should just be labelled a United HERO.
However you see certain outcomes, ched let us down, Billy has done the complete opposite.

I think the fact that the Dingles had a go at Ched & were singing about us signing him every 5 minutes made quite a few fans defensive & wanted to make sure they had a positive effect to his introduction to detract from the mocking.
That was my take on it anyway.

I think if Billy and Ched were to form a decent partnership they would have to play A LOT of games together.

For people to expect Wilder to chuck them together and it magically become the new Deane and Agana is pretty deluded and would be based purely on bladey bladeness.

We looked very good with Clarke's hold up play on Saturday, and I will go on the record and say we will miss it. We will have to change the delivery to the forward slightly to accommodate the lack of strength and power that Clarke has given.

I think whoever comes in, Evans, Lavery, Brookes needs a consistent run of games while Clarke is out, and hopefully it goes well.

Billy had virtually a whole ground STAND UP ovation when he went off - nothing to feel sorry for about that.

As for Ched - most fans want to see him achieve as before and are simply giving the fella encouragement. As a club WE have everything to gain from Ched achieving and performing as before.

I honestly don't think Billy will mind the fans chanting for Ched, however he didn't look happy about being substituted again. I noticed that Wilder had a few words with him when he came off and I'm sure they were reassuring.

He'd played 75 mins nearly, a good half an hour on his tod up front.

He's not gifted with Stamina, he needed to come off. He's probably disappointed as he probably thought with the success we were getting, getting in behind them that he could possibly have another.

I've waited 7 or so years for these two to pair up as our attack partnership. The potential of the two together quite rightly will have Championship defences more that a tad worried !!

Come on Ched, hurry up and get fit fella !!

Out of the four league games we've played so far, Sharp has been substituted in three of them, Cardiff being the exception. That's probably why.
