Not really since both are hardly setting the world on fire.

Howard was poor and so was Monty.

Monty was not poor. Monty was the player getting hold of the ball and spreading it. Monty made 3 or 4 good tackles at the back to break up the play.

Howard was the biggest pile of tosh i've ever seen today.

Crikey. They are like chalk and cheese at the moment. Howard is wandering around doing bugger all, totally off the pace.

Monty is covering every blade of grass, passing well on the whole and constantly creating space/an outlet. Even the tails on praise or grumble are praising him.

but its monty and calling him a good player isn't allowed.

Ah another Howard bashing thread I see - jesus, Let's just say first half they were all shit Monty included. What Monty does do is run about a lot fair play to him for that Howard is not that type of player - no pleasing some folk though, if you really want to see a team of talentless runners go to the sty.

Howard is the type of player who gets the ball and creates things... He didn't do that today. He was shocking today and was rightly brought off. Monty is a better player than Howard in my opinion. I'd rather have 4 Monty's in midfield than 4 Howard's.

No bashing.......he's been poor since he came here. I'm still hoping he will do well.

Monty has been good since he came back. Some don't see it. Squinny and Webber should never have started according to most near us. Loads of fat men in the bogs said so too! :D:D:D

If Howard plays well next match I'll say so.

Monty played ok, not amazing, not shit, he played ok, alot of people like to stick up for the bloke because he gets slagged off, and because he gets slagged of, when he has an ok game he is amazing, its not the case in my opinion, he was average for me, made some good passes, but also lost the ball when in posession

No mention of Howard who did so well today.............????

:)

Monty did quite well today. Still liable of making some awful passes, but they were only a couple, so can let him off :p.

Didn't notice Howard much today, says a lot.

i never at one point said howard did well, my post wasnt disputing the fact howard played under par, just stating some people who want to make a point say Monty was amazing and such

And where did anyone say Monty was "amazing"?

Although I think he's been the better player of the 2 since he came back.

I was just wondering why you only mentioned Monty in a thread about both of them?

:)

Every single game Monty has played in this season he has been one of the best players on the pitch every time, people slag him for apparently having no skill but recently he has been spreading some lovely passes all over the park, long and short. At the moment, he is the player out of him and Howard who is helping push the ball forwards and has been making more useful runs and has been far more creative than Howard has

I'm not saying Howard is shit, he's not been here long and it is possible for a player to be out of form and i believe there is more to come from him as at times he has shown exactly why we wanted to bring him here in the first place, especially in the game down at the valley.

Although I never saw him at The Valley I agree with all you say.

Let's hope Howard comes good.

Monty was great today. Howard was anonymous, but he and Quinn don't play well together as they both chase the same balls down the same channels. Notice how much better Quinn played after Howard went off.

I don't think Howard is shit, but I equally don't think it's sensible to play him and Quinn together - and Quinn edged it in terms of performance today.

I think Monty has played well this season. It's just a shame that the few Monty-bashers will hurl abuse at him for one mis-placed pass rather than applaud him for all the good ones. As for Howard, I think he still needs time for him, and players round him, to adapt to each other. Will he be given that time?

Alot of people are really sarcastic with Monty. If he does make a bad pass then people laugh like it's what they expect to see.

I cant believe you were at the same game as me, Monty worked his socks off, covering every blade of grass, Howard, well didnt seem interested to me.

I did think the same thing to be honest.
Monty played so fantastic through balls, broke up the play & even jinked past two Charlton midfielders and played a good simple balls that were effective.
Howard looked lost at times and was very lucky not to get punished more than a yellow with a very late challenge (Which I couldn't blame him for cos he'd been caught late a few times, but still not a great thing to do).
Plus for some reason Quinn looked a lot better and more comfortable when Howard went off too, don't know why but he did.

Because there weren't two players chasing the same balls and running them down the same areas when Howard went off. If Quinn had been the one to go off, Howard probably would have played better than before.

I disagree. With both on, Quinny still did alot more than Howard.

Howard wasn't running down the balls in any area! he was hanging around most of the time for the ball to be played to him so he could create something. He came off and we changed styles which suited the game better.

Had it been a different team we were playing against maybe quinn would have come off and allowed us to play through him.

Howard has been pushed forward behind BT (he is often seen putting pressure on the CB or GK), unfortunately most of the balls forward in the middle are in the air as Quinn and Monty tend to go sideways rather than through the middle. Without decent service it is hard to jude what he is capable of doing.

He wasn't, no - because all the balls that he would have gone for, Quinn went for too. I think he realised the futility of having two people on the pitch basically playing the exact same game. In my opinion, anyway!
