I have to disagree with you on your first point. I think we do need to sell to be able to buy. McCabe made reference to the need for us to get greater investment several weeks ago. Wilder has said that he is working with limited funds. There has been no confirmation whatsoever that Wilder is getting a share of the add ins from the sale of Walker - something he said he was going to ask for - he's not said any more about that has he? So I think you can assume the answer is no.
On top of that we have big earners like Brayford on the books and I think a lot is riding on being able to move him on. That will free up a significant amount of wages. I suspect when Brayford goes we will go straight in and seal the deal for Lenihan. I think that's a number one priority for us.
I think any other deals on top of that will most likely be loans.
Agree. Unless there was a swap that involved solving one of our other areas. I'd be relictant to end the window with an only just fit Baldock, a young lad with one league cup appearance amd a bloke on high wages we've openly been trying to offload.Wouldn't be massively against something like this but we can't be doing with having to replace Freeman at this stage, we have enough players to sign as it is.
Correct and I think we bought some players in at the end of the window last year -Lavery and Clarke wasn't it?When you are negotiating to get a player it is not a great tactic to let everyone know you have got a £5mill kitty to spend from sell on fees. I suspect that CW knows that Blackburn probably need to sell to get cash in and as the deadline approaches their options become more limited so the price comes down. CW knows what he is doing when it comes to spending the owners money.
Wilder is not going to come out and say he has 5million to spend is he.we have funds to spend why do fans keep on about this it is obviously a limited amount and compared to the big hitters probably small fry,let Wilder get on with his job.I have to disagree with you on your first point. Depends on fee.
Selling to a club outside PL would be looking at circa £1m.
Cos it's a PL club allegedly interested, we should be looking for no less than £3m, at which point, Wilder may decide he can utilise these funds on strengthening the squad.
I've always maintained Baldock will ultimately nail down this position in any event. Just not sure how close he is to being available for selection after injury.
Not surprised in the interest in Freeman. Good player who would be a loss. But sometimes you have to take a view on these things. The bigger picture.
UTB
We've had bids in for a number of players, we've a budget to stick to but we certainly don't have to sell to buy.
All admirable and correct.Personally for me, it doesn't just depend on the fee, but also the availability of a suitable replacement.
Our squad shortens by the day with Moore and Baldock injured. Beard, Hanson and potentially Brooks on the way out. CW maintains the squad doesn't have enough cover as it is and we are struggling currently to strengthen anyway. We need to be very careful and should only relinquish a first team player on the basis we have a cast iron replacement and that is regardless of transfer fee
Remember, the next available opening isn't while Jan and we need to have the strongest possible squad available to see us through to at least that time

We have bids to the tune of £5m or thereabouts currently on various club's tables...
It doesn't suit the agenda, though. So it's a publicity stunt.
Haven't we signed cover for Moore?
Where's Brooks going !?!?!
Isn't the idea of a "squad" that you have cover for injuries is Baldock : Freeman / Freeman : Baldock
Perhaps there'll be a 'volte face 're Brayford IF Freeman goes ?
He had a great scoring record last season but that was a one off it won't happen again.Brown had a season like that but couldn't repeat it.Unbelievable, that anyone would think that selling Freeman would be a good move. Second highest scorer last season and one of the most improved players at the club. He is one of the main reasons why we are even in this division, with some of the vital goals he scored last season. We've played four games and yes he's looked off the pace for the first three, however like Fleck, I thought he was much better yesterday. Really do think he deserves a chance to see if he can adapt to this level and hope that CW will persevere with him.
CW has stated he wants two players of standing for each position. Who else apart from Baldock is there for right wing back ?
Bash. CB
Brayford definitely going
New player ... why when Freeman here on long deal and supposedly happy.
Non starter this one imo.
We'll struggle to get £1m for the beard, but if udders offered 3 times that for freeman it would make more sense to sell and put that towards either a box to box midfielder or pacy winger.
Billy proved yet again if we get balls into the box he will score, give him supply and the goals will come
