I've just woken up in my Cardiff hotel room and looked at the league table and we're 17th

I'd take that next May as a realistic first season back BUT we're only 2 points off the play offs, above our South Barnsley neighbours and we have a home game coming up on Saturday.

Life is good.

Don't worry, be happy.

That's all :)

I think it's more the frustration that's getting to people. I think the last minute goal against Boro left a sour taste in everyone's mouth it did to me.

Then to not get a penalty in first half is ridiculous.

Don't think it's that, it's the fact we've easily been second best in two games of football for the first time in about a year.

As that famous Welsh singer, Tom Jones, once said...

"It's not unusual"

I can't speak for others, but I don't feel negative about our start to the season. I think it's maybe a good thing that it's exposed some of our shortcomings early on. We lack pace and quality in key areas, defence, midfield and attack. We can fix that providing the Board backs Wilder and Wilder is prepared perhaps to offer a bit closer to the going rate for some of his targets.

The one thing about Chris is, he doesn't "fanny about" and I think we'll see one or two come in this week now.

Small margins but as we know to our cost in the past, it's easy to get into the habit of feeling sorry for yourselves. We will get punished in this division and have to be more clinical at the other end, and last night was similar to Saturday in that respect. As tufty said, we were OK box to box but unfortunately are missing something in both boxes. He knew it pre season and has it confirmed now. OK, we haven't had the luck but that shouldn't cloud the real issues.

I'd add to that. Better teams make the opposition look poor. That's how it works.

People are asking where the effort is, and why certain players aren't doing it? The answer is largely simple - our opponents are better.

You're right. It's certainly not time to panic buy.

Funny thing is that if we've played boro, Cardiff and lost both then beat Brentford last night we'd be full of optimism that we'd turned the corner.

Reality is that we've got 3 from 9. It's not great but not terrible.

We've had a tough start, we've also not had any luck. Plenty of penalty claims and disallowed goals. In another world we might've had those.

It's by no means rosy but then anyone that expected it to be would be deluded.

I did expect more organised and disciplined performances in the last two games though. It seems we've been overrun twice now and that's not what I thought

Steve, I think you've hit the nail on the head. We breezed the league last season, especially the last few months. Naturally fans get use to us bossing games, and winning. We've been promoted to a very tough league and the fans need to adjust their expectations, just like the players have to adopt to stronger opposition.

We may all think "ooh this is a tough game", but sub consciously we're (I'm) still in last seasons mindset.

We'll be reight in the end.

There are quite a few in here that prefer to lie down and die!

I still think it will take us 10 games to adjust to this league, with players coming to terms with what's required & maybe a couple of tweaks in how we set up & the starting 11 (I've no idea what though).
We pretty much had it all our own way from January to May this year and it may take a bit of getting used to for (some) fans & players alike to deal with this.
Patience not panic. We saw how Wilder & Knill recognised the problems at the start of last season & dealt with it early on. We're not going to go on a ridiculous run & storm this league but I think we'll have enough about us to compete and hold our own.

Completely agree.

Bit of perspective as well- Bolton and Millwall are both below us.

And so are Villa...

3 games have told me that we need more pace and a final product.
It tells me that we need to defend much better. Does it mean we need to replace the centre halves we have? No.

Weve seen that Stevens, Freeman, Fleck and Coutts Have given the ball away far too much. For me the biggest concern is in midfield.

It's not that we don't need pace but it's that we do need to be stronger at the back and retain the ball better

Although they don't gain us points, the stats from last night don't look bad at all.

61% possession
13 to their 19 shots
4 to their 6 on target
6 to their 7 corners

If we had the quality to keep the ball and then do something with it, we could be half decent. So until these things can be implemented I can see similar results to come. I'm sure Wilder and Knill know what's required, the big question is whether HRH and McCabe want to stay in this league. They cannot wait until January and then spend.

Keith Edwards said this last night and he was bang on. Having less possession but quality possession isn't a bad thing. Cardiff beat Villa 3-0 and had less than 40% possession.

How about defensive headers won? How about crosses which reach the strikers, how about runs made and through balls played.

In the last two games we've conceded two goals from defenders losing headers.

Football intelligence isn't required today Swiss. We might have to wait a few days for people to stop chinning

We are still leatning the league and as we all know you pay to learn. Wilder can tell the lads till he's blue in the face what to expect but until you've come up against the pace ,aggression and that bit more of everything it dosen't make you bombproof. Wilder has seen what either isn't working well enough or maybe just isn't good enough. He will act He wants success more than any of us.
Let's hope the board enable him to bring in his first choice targets on this occaision.

This!

Wilder experienced this last season, first 4 games remember. He realised what was needed, who wasn't and we never looked back. Have every faith in Wilder that he knows what he wants, the only down side is I think Lundstram might be the new Hussey.

yes agree. We lost comfortably in both those games.

Again, that's bollocks. Owt to get another dig in, eh? We could have been 2-0 up after 8 minutes at boro. Then had a perfectly good goal disallowed by either a crook, or an incompetent clown who should be banned for a month for that decision.

I think Wilder was part of the squad that went 15 games without winning, after getting promotion. And the manager of a team that looked garbage in the first three games. It worked out fine.
No need to panic yet. It's shit losing, I'd forgotten what it's like but it was always going to happen. Hopefully, now we've played a couple, CW has worked out his priorities, gone to the owners and said 'look, we need this and this to stay up, you can see with your own eyes we're not good enough and if you don't spend now, we could end up back in L1. It cost you about £30m to get out of it last time' and we'll do some deals before the window closes.

Absolutely spot on!!. I'm only slightly concerned that McCabe and the prince aren't willing to get their wallets outl?. I M O. In wilder we trust

Agreed Swiss.

I know I'm becoming repetitive but it's the speed of thought and movement we're struggling with at the attacking end for both teams. Our defenders will hopefully grow into reading this from other teams and I'm still hopeful that our attacking players can make it more difficult for opposing defenders to read what they are doing. I don't think we're struggling technically but our players do need to adapt to the speed of the game in this division fairly quickly.
