Would the violence have occurred?

I'm not condoning what happened after the game, far from it. I hate to see this happen, especially if it is involving SUFC and definitely if I end up getting caught up in it.

But,

Had the goal stood, or if the goal was correctly chalked off, would the violence have ensued? The Blades fans would've left the ground in a totally different mood and the Boro fans would've probably not been stood waiting as the handbags inside the ground before the FT whistle wouldn't have happened.

Beer and bad decisions don't go well together.

So,

If we had retrospective video evidence to check back on key decisions, this whole debacle "COULD HAVE" been avoided. i.e. if the evidence was shown on the screen and the 4th official makes the decision, all fans inside the ground would've known that there was no mistake. The Boro fans then don't goad the Blades fans, the Blades fans don't react, then the Boro fans don't have a reason to wait outside.

Same would go if the decision was proved to be correct. If the fans inside the ground can see the linesman has made the correct decision then surely it's fair do's and we move on.

I think the decision on Saturday had a lot to do with what happened afterwards.

So the Blades 'fans' wouldn't have goaded the Boro fans if we'd equalised ?

I agree that the atmosphere would generally be different if everyone knew decisions were being reviewed as a matter of course but to think this would stop animosity and fans winding up other fans I think is a tad ambitious.

I didn't go however i was jumping around like an idiot thinking we had scored a last minute goal for a point against a decent Boro side, these idiots are a stain on the club, all the focus is now on the club not the poor decision that went against us. Again the laughing stock and it makes us fans look like idiots. Find them, Ban them we do not want you following our great club, I understand the OP however no matter how gutted you do not go to football representing our club in this way.Its really easy few beers bit of banter enjoy the game and go home !

Totally agree with this sentiment, although one small caveat.
There are instances where people get "in bother" with the law around a match when they are doing absolutely nothing at all.
All for banning the hoolies from both sides but there are countless stories of people being accused of something they have not done and getting into trouble by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thankfully I've never been in such a situation and whilst I'd like to think it's because I am quite vigilant and a little bit wise to this kind of stuff there's got to be occasions when away from home you unintentionally get "trapped" into a situation where it's difficult to get away from.

I enjoy having a beer before a game and talking to opposition fans about their thoughts on their team and how well they think they will fare over the season as well as at that game. Unfortunately, not everyone is like that.

I agree it does happen, i will reword Ban the idiots going to football not for the football if that makes sense

Of course they would have. I just think that being goaded by fans who know the decision was poor leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. Coming out of the ground angry knowing that we have been robbed by a poor decision is bad enough on its own.

I had piggy mates sending me pictures of linesmen flagging for offside etc. to try and wind me up. I saw one of them yesterday who then admits that we were robbed. He was doing it to get a reaction from me.

The problem at football matches though is the reaction that the opposition fans want isn't just a general bit of banter.

If people can't rise above that then They really shouldn't be at the match imo.

I just imagine having a fight getting arrested and the judge being like

'Why have you acted like this...'

'The boro fans laughed at me...' I'd be mortified at he way I'd acted beer or no beer

If people can't take 'banter', in whatever shape or form, without resorting to violence then they should find something else to do with their weekends. In the meantime, as discussed in another thread, the clubs need to root these people out, they have the means.

Obviously it's wrong for people to start fights over a bad decision in a football game, I don't think anyone (except some of the idiots that were involved) would argue that.

But, I do think it's probably true that the fighting wouldn't have happened if they had VAR and had allowed the goal. I'd love the kind of people who were fighting to have just stayed at home, but you can't do anything about people being arseholes. What can be done, with a bit of technology in the game, is getting decisions like Saturday's correct, and taking away at least one excuse that people will use for their behaviour.

Shame some of our lot couldn't have been as dignified as the Mexican were here

If video evidence was used, justice would have prevailed and all the fallout wouldn't have happened.

Correct. It's just another thing that could so easily have been avoided with the technology at hand in 2017.

Having been at the game I agree with the OP, there wasn't a suggestion that that type of violence would've kicked off before the offside decision.
Obviously this doesn't in the slightest condone it.

Probably still would have happened

The Boro fans took the piss and our fans couldn't handle it

i've said for years.. officials cause crowd trouble. noone minds losing fairly.. perhaps grafikhaus could plot a correlation between crowd violence and controversial incidents

"The bad decision caused the violence" is such a pitifully bad excuse its unreal.

I've seen many a bad decision without the need to smash someone's head in.

Those morons would have kicked off if we'd won 5-0. We have a minority of fans whose matchday plan entails getting as drunk/wasted as possible and go looking for a fight.

It's really a pitiful excuse and justification for being a pillock. If those of us of more advanced years had reacted like that to every bad decision we'd be looking and sounding like Rocky Balboa.

Well coming from someone who has never ever thrown a punch, before, during or after attending a football match I would say I'm entitled to my view.
Violence isn't something I agree with at a football game, or in general, but you can understand the anger that some people felt at such a wrong decision.

Why do you think so many people fight outside court?

What happened on Saturday was no more or less than the result of cerebrally deficient Neanderthal knuckle dragging fuckwits. I would ban the cunts from football for life.

Agreed, that deals with the officials .... but I think this thread is more aimed at what should happen to the Fans?
