Not broken hearted. Them, big spendy, just down from above, us, little spendy, just up from below. They outclassed us in places, but to be honest, although we appeared to play poorly, we made them look less than they are. All the fuss over Assombalonga (who we should have signed years ago IMHO) and their other players - and what did they do? Capitalised on a fuck up, clipped the post, hit one at the keeper. I felt we made far more in attack when we could get forward, lacked in midfield in places and were largely okay at the back, save for Basham.

Blackman 6.5/10: Caught exposed for their goal. His positioning isn't bad otherwise but his distribution is a bit cack at times
Freeman 7/10: Always involved is given a real test by Friend. Brave to carry on with that cob on his head
Basham 4/10: Never a Central Defender in my book. Will be the place where oppositions concentrate this season because of his weakness
Stearman 7/10: Fairly solid. Assombalonga didn't get much of a look in
O'Connell 7/10: Similarly - his presence is good for the team and his urge to get up the field noted
Stevens 6/10: Found it difficult, but at the moment he ostensibly a fourth division player up against a PL winger. He will improve though
Fleck 7/10: Really, our only conduit forward. Had a decent game IMHO
Carruthers 5/10: Poor game. Saw him in this game and at Eastleigh and really, he is a bit headless chicken at times. Careless and not Championship level.
Coutts 7.5/10: Did all the heavy lifting as usual.
Sharp 4/10: Only gets that, not because of his performance, but because he got nowt.
Clarke 7/10: For a big old unit he doesn't half cover some ground

Evans 7/10: Thought he picked the game up a bit
Duffy 6/10: At first he was an Improvement on the poor Carruthers, but made careless errors and gave the ball away when we needed not to.
Brooks 5/10: Not in the game much

Their goal: Basham 60/40 Blackman.

Our goal: Fuck the linesman and fuck Sky. Look at the freeze frame on my fucking telly when they say Duffy hit the cross. Notice anything? There's about .75 of a second between the two supposed 'simultaneous' shots. Look at the position of the players on the six yard line and Brooks at the back. O'Connell was onside in the left frame (when Duffy made contact) and their player headed it in anyway. I could live with us being beaten 1-0 because of what I said above, but it's a bag of squirty shit when you are denied a point and lose your unbeaten/winning sequence because of a fucking incompetent lino and a ref who cant read a game properly. None of the Boro players protested. So fuck off Prutton you piggy cunt and fuck you Floyd Hassleback you intelligible arsehole. And that fucking woman. Did they not watch her car smash presenting on Channel 5? Half time, nil-nil? Oh yeah, it's one nil you daft bint.

Robbed. And you know what happens when bad decisions and disallowed goals count at the end of a season don't you?

Look at Clarke too. He's Schrodinger's striker. Two different places at once...

Fair assessment they, pommpey.

The thing I noticed the most was their quality in every area. Passing was crisp, the play was at speed, closing down was instant and effective and their players always seemed to be in the right place for the second ball. Even their long passes didn't run out of play like they're supposed to.

I do think we'll get with the pace of things quickly though or find a way to play smarter.

Also, the effort and attitude was spot on as usual, something we don't even need to mention these days.

Not too disappointed first half 2nd best all over the pitch 2nd half more even no way could you see the 44 million difference goal ruled off side when we all know it was fine. And we still higher than the wendys good weekend for me

Bash shouldn't have dropped deep for the goal.....stayed in line with the other 2 CB's and they were offside, but having dropped deep he was really weak with the attempted header

I'm disappointed so far in Stearman. I think it's going to take him a few games to get up to speed with the way we play, so not overly concerned about that.

My concern is on the organisational side. We've had big gaps at times, in both the league games, at the back. Defenders are seemingly covering the same ground, and we're not closing down their midfielders when they have the ball outside the box. I thought he'd bring the discipline and leadership to the defence but I've not really seen it so far.

Freeman also looks a bit out of his depth. But, again, he looks like one of the players who may have celebrated a bit too hard this summer, so will hopefully improve.

I thought Blackman was a positive tonight. I find it hard to blame him for the goal given THAT header was so unpredictable (predictable).

We looked so scared when the ball went up in the air at the back. No one dominating headers. We were so worried about their pace that we made mistakes.

Thought we looked better with Evans, Duffy and Brookes on the park....I expect changes for Tuesday.

Did not play well. The fans after the game caused issues throwing money .

Basham 4/10: Never a Central Defender in my book. Will be the place where oppositions concentrate this season because of his weakness

Do one muppet.

Utter bollocks.

He was running backwards and managed to get a head on the ball, albeit not a good one. Blackman should have seen his position and stayed on his line.It was a soft goal to concede but I'm not panicing yet - we look to have more than enough to be comfortable in this league and will only get better under CW. We already have more points than this time last year.

Utter bollocks yet you fault Blackman? Not sue you are agreeing with me or disagreeing with me.

I agree totally with the 3 poorest marks - bash/sami/billy

I thought Blackman hesitated for their goal. He came half way then stopped and ended up in no mans land. Basham was at fault for the header of course but I thought Blackman was indecisive. Also the shot they had that hit the post, Blackman was nowhere near it and was badly positioned again. That's slightly concerning to me. But he played very well last week and he's learning his trade at a level much higher than he's familiar with so I'll reserve judgment.

I thought we started very well first 10 minutes. After that they gave us the run around for most of the rest of the first half. A lot of that was down to our own making. Rushing things, losing possession too easily. Second half we did much better and deserved a point.

Overall a good performance considering the difference in previous league status and spending power. Was pleased with the way we kept heads up and battled to the end.

Could have done with the pace of Brooks sooner I think.

We need to spend something, we need to look for a couple of quality players now, weve spent peanuts and now we need a couple of diamonds!!!

Looked like he was knocked back a bit just before he headed the ball but probably an accidental collision (????) ;)

Stevens is difficult for me, at the moment he's not good enough, but he probably just needs games, but if we give them to him while we have Lafferty on the bench is a tough call. Agree with Carruthers. I'm not Duffy's biggest cheerleader but I thought he was better than Samir, with less of a pre season. Seems panicked on the ball but I can't fault his work rate.

I thought Brooks was good too, what he did do was great. I think we just need to bite the bullet and start him in a proper game, see what happens.

We just need to cross more when we're around the box and goals will come.

Agreed, not only was he running backwards but he was knocked off balance as well. Just one of those things

we're less composed without Jake.. that could be down to the oppo.. his distribution is shocking.. no organisation now

First 15 min we were great, after they scored it was boys against men. We played well in patches today but overall though we were poor and very frustrating.
They outmuscled and outpressed us for the majority of the game. Thought we were very lightweight in the middle of the park and defensively coutts and fleck were non existent. Far too many wayward passes today, also thought Stevens had a shocker.
Sharp may as well have been sat in the stand, although it has to be said that was probably due to no service what so ever.
Overall to say we were terrible and still could've got something from the best team in the league if it wasn't for a dick with a flag isn't all bad I suppose.
We desperately need someone with pace up the top end of the pitch, and also a centre mid who knows how to defend

Many have said Coutts played well in centre mid and Fleck? I totally agree we need some pace up top, even if its just for the last 20 minutes. Its the one thing we really lack to be honest. A Steve Kabba type.
