Ched on fire!!!!

Let's not get carried away with 1 cameo appearance. He has a long way to go to be fully match fit and some still have doubts whether he has what it takes at this level. On the other hand let's give credit where it's due. He contributed well tonight and you can certainly tell he wants it. He's obviously been impressing Wilder and I'm happy to go with the gaffers judgement as ever. There is a very slight possibility we may have a bargain championship standard striker on our hands and though the odds may be stacked against it I'm sure we would all be more than happy if it happened

He didn't score. His shot was good but was deflected in. He provided a very good pass to a team-mate to score. He managed to start part of a game and finish it. He has played part of a game against a League 1 side who are not going to trouble their playoff places this season. Get real ffs. Lets see how he gets on. Its almost embarrassing some people wetting themselves as they are. Have a wank in November if he has a regular starting spot and is on a goal per two games.
Do you get out much ?

UTB

Tonight he was better than Lavery too
Wilder said in his post match interview that Ched has given himself a great chance to be involved against Middlesboro.
Can't fault on either count

That's a little unfair. He was excellent tonight and was the official man of the match.

His shot was on target and going in but richocheted (never know how to spell that word) in off 2 players.
His appearance changed the game once he came in. He was far more affective than Hanson and Lavery on the night. He was also involved in all 3 goals.

The fans who thought he was finished look to be wrong.
The early signs from tonight are that he's still got it, but don't take my word for it. Wilder himself spoke very highly of Ched man of the match display and said he's now put himself in contention to feature against Boro.

Agree though it's early days, so like the enthusiasm regards Brooks we need to show some caution. It could all go pear shaped but it's a promising start.

I was pleasantly surprised - he looked sharp especially given the lack of preseason.

Was undecided if it was worth the drama of bringing him back given his fitness and baggage but did enough to suggest he could have more than a part to play in our season.

More of the same please

Not sure how you have worked out credit for a Ched assist for the 3rd goal (Lafferty) but happy to be proved wrong :)

Well done Ched.

UTB

Well he was fouled for the Free Kick, which is a stretch I realise.

I rather think he meant Evans got two assists rather than a goal and an assist though, which is correct because the equaliser was clearly an own goal.

how did brooks look tonight??

Seems you have an agenda.

Pray tell how having an honest opinion is an agenda. His shot was not on target from what I saw. His introduction coincided with more urgency and directness being displayed. He was involved IMHO in two goals.I just don't go overboard because it's Ched fucking Evans. He's just another Sheffield United player who has to earn his shirt.

how did brooks look tonight??

Didn't have the best game in the world - which may not be the worst thing in the world if a load of scouts were watching.

Certainly wasn't a cut above Duffy for example but you can clearly still see he has talent.

He showed some nice touches (couple of body swerves) and wanted the ball - also got stuck in with the defensive side when he had too.

The fact the first turned out to be an assist isn't an issue. He still got in the right position, he still twatted it at goal, it still ended up in the back of the net.

We went to Bournemouth in our first season in League 1 and he did a similar thing twice that day. Both times resulting in own goals. End result being 3 points.

Keep it up Ched.

im not a fan of him being here. too much negative baggage over the years. im confused at the hero welcome he got

but credit where credit is due. he came off the bench & changed the game. because it was very pedestrian with no tempo. i couldnt see where either side would get a goal. but with goal & assist he saved us tonight

Obviously Ched is never going to get any credit from half the fans no matter how well he plays which is a shame. By all accounts he did more in 15mins than Hanson and Lavery had done all game, at least Wilder thinks so. I think I'll take more notice of Wilder than those on this thread with an agenda.

I quickly changed my post as "agenda" was the wrong word, apologies.
I meant your judgement of Ched has already been tainted, you probably want him to fail.
I want him to succeed but it's not personal, I want all United players to play well.

Let's imagine that the sub that came on tonight to replace Hanson was called John Smith from Chesterfield.
Well tonight I'd be saying how impressed I was with this new player John Smith with the beard.
He was our best striker tonight and showed a lot of promise.

In the circumstances it's pretty incredible that someone that has hardly played in 4 years can already put in a better performance than Lavery and Hanson. It's only 40 minutes of football but surely he deserves credit for playing well.

Also I was sat on gangway C of the South stand and saw that the ball was on target but it seems the goalie saved it, parried it on to the defender who turned it into his own net, hence why it's an own goal.

He was involved in the 3rd goal because he won us the free kick on the edge of the area from which we scored.

The Ched haters get on my nerves as much as the Ched lovers. I couldn't care less about Ched. I support the club and want us to do well. If Ched helps fires us to success then great. Tonight was a step in the right direction, nothing more nothing less.

He came on, he made an impact against a tiring league one defence. Hardly world beating but it is the first step in showing he may have some impact this season.

Can we all just agree to the above, move on and talk about something more interesting, like: your favourite type of emulsion, what makes a great lawn mower? or what's your favourite motorway junction and why?

nope try reading some of my other positive posts, but this is one thing i have too many doubts on, sounds like he did well tonight, good on him, but im certainly not going to get excited yet
I am because I think wilder knows what he's doing .;)Utb.

We've all got eyes, whether you like him or not he changed that game....

I don't see how you can know I want Evans to fail. I really don't. Just because I am not wetting myself doesn't mean I want him to fail.

Fair enough. Credit where it is due. He came back and looked like a footballer. I don't want any United player to fail. I want 11 world beaters. To want otherwise is ridiculous if you are a Blade. What I can't take is the over the top here comes the Messiah, we told you so he's going to rip the Championship a new one merchants who are more keen on pushing his "wronged hero status" than assessing the position with a cool head. I like the John Smith analogy. John Smith played well against Walsall. Now let's see how well John Smith plays against Boro and whether he is still playing without injury in two months.

Tonight's game is just one goal, one substitute appearance.

But - if he never goes on to achieve anything else in a United shirt it will be a powerful night for Ched and his family to reflect back on and what it represents. Tonight was a chance to feel some closure over 5 years of being away, over years of injustice, over feelings of letting himself and his family down and perhaps of letting United fans down. Noone will have felt more relief tonight than Ched and for that reason, it may only be a goal against Walsall, but it's a monumental one no less.
Ched and CW shook hands just before he stepped over the white line, I thought it was a moving moment, like 'go on son you deserve this'

A balanced view is that he played OK tonight with the odd moment of really good play, nothing to go overboard about normally.
However maybe some of our fans are going overboard because he was written off as finished. The argument was that a player that hasn't played football for 4 years can never return to their former standard and also he was poor last season in a relegated league 1 side. So based on that background it makes a good performance turn into a remarkable performance.
He clearly showed plenty of potential tonight.

But as you say it's early days and no one should go overboard and get too excited yet.
Championship is a big step up from Walsall level and he could also end up being injury prone.
But the good news for Wilder and SUFC is that Ched has taken his first step towards recovery and passed.

His strike was excellent and the run and pass for the second goal was too good for league 1.

Now 3rd choice striker at the club.

Being selected MOM isn't that much of an achievement. My daughter once picked Jamie Ward as MOM when we were guests of the match sponsor, and that had nothing to do with how well he played.
