Clarke and Sharp - I think I may be changing my mind!

Didn't look great tonight, but it was only a friendly, so hard to make judgment. Lavaory looked sharp when he came on.

with the injuries to Hanson, Evens etc our bench looked paper thin tonight. Its a little worrying

So let me get this straight.Shsrp and Clarke are not scoring in every single game so we should all be panicking running round flailing our arms shouting it's all over. Tell me any forwards that score every game or look world beaters in every game. I'VE been watching football 50 years and Jamie Vardyv reached God status for scoring in 12 games was it. Yet blades go ape as our strikers dont bang in 3 every game .
Let me tell you it never will happen

The object of football is .....to win
We won
They did their job

You allow your refusal to allow even the slightest legitimate criticism of the club/team we ALL support passionately to cloud your judgement. To argue that they never get anything wrong, make mistakes, make bad decisions or don't do well enough is ridiculous as it is manifestly wrong.
Ballanced posters give credit when merited but are comfortable giving criticism for the same reasons.
I wouldn't suggest you should try it. I'd be wasting my time.

I'm worried about where the goals will come with Sharp and Clarke, there records in the championship are nothing special and although Sharp in particular did excellent last season there are numerous examples of strikers scoring for fun in league 1 and then struggling to get close to double figures in the championship.

It's a pre season training exercise.all about building up fitness and fitting new personnel into the system . We should not expect any where near the commitment and levels of determination once the real stuff starts. Players like Brooks will be looking keener as they are chasing a selection. But the majority are in training mode. Yet some criticise as they want better than 100 per cent in every minute of even these work outs, which is asking for disappointment

The trouble with Sharp is he's only Human, unlike like some posters.......
Some did ;)

If you say something often enough, you're bound to be right eventually, in fact, you're more bound to be right than to be wrong. So I can fully understand why you want to own the copyright on the "Sharp and Clarke can't play together" argument. It's a sure winner - because the first time they play together and the team doesn't win, you've already got your ready-made reason there and you can bring it out, remind people that you said it, and in their despair some more will fall in with the idea.

I totally disagree that they can't play together. I think that's nonsense. They have played together and played very well together too. OK, so it's not the instinctive "Edwards/Morris", or "Deane/Agana" understanding, but I believe that is down to their individual ability rather than their ability to gel together as a unit.

I do think that both men have their limitations. Clarke has been injury prone throughout his entire career. If we get 30 games out of him next season we'll have done well. Sharp (cover your eyes now if you don't like the truth) has no pace and depends on others to create chances for him most of the time. There were many games last season where he did bugger all during the game - but he is an instinctive finisher when he gets a chance - so it's often going to be a case with him of..."hes doing bugger all, but should we leave him on just in case?". And that's where opinion on Sharp gets divided. Those in the "leave him on" camp will point, quite rightly, to a bagful of goals as justification. Those in the "sub him off" camp will say that no player deserves to be on the field of play if they aren't making a positive contribution to the game throughout 90 minutes.

Probably what's of most concern (and I've said this countless times before, in different ways, so I'd like to own the copyright on this please?) is that neither Sharp nor Clarke are young - they are frankly, past their best - and they are not going to set the Championship alight - neither of them. It's a few years now since Sharp played in the Championship - he won't have got any better with the passing of years. These two guys, I'm afraid, are in the twilight of their careers and we need younger, faster, fitter, strike options if we are going to compete at the top end of the Championship.

So then we look to the bench and we have....

Err....

Ched Evans? Also not the player he was. Can he get back to being near to where he was? I really, really, hope so. If he gets anywhere near where he was that will be a real asset to the club, because the lad is class and has played at the highest level. But, let's be honest... it's a massive question mark this and we must not rely on him to come good after all this time out of the game.

Caolan Lavery? For me this kid could be our best option as an out and out striker, because he's young, fit and fast. But...again we've no idea if he will be able to perform at Championship level.

James Hanson? He's even more past his best than Sharp and Clark and his best was never Championship quality in the first place.

The real bright spot on the horizon for us is David Brooks. Whether we will hold onto him is the biggest question mark there. Can McCabe resist the lure of the £ enough? If he does, then players like him and Lavery could be the ones who take us on to the next level.

And then you can put that down to, "I told you Sharp and Clarke can't play together" if you like?

Writing war and peace will do little to reinforce your points either !!

Your wrong about Sharp and Clarke, as a pair.

Your wrong that Sharp does nothing other than score goals. There was also little evidence to suggest he was (significantly) past his best as recently as 3 months ago !

That's my opinion. I'm open minded to change it and, unlike others, have only the sides best interest at heart rather than a burning desire to be "right".

This is a football forum where differences of opinion are aired. Or so I'm led to believe.

That said, I do not require an auto correct function from other posters,to show me the error of my ways. Thanks all the same. Such is the conviction, which is highly qualified, that I have in my views.

All Blades.

PS your turn (again) if you wish. This ladies not for turning !

I'm all for constructive criticism
There are times when players deserve stick if they fail to give their all. I think it's completely different to the focused criticism by some on individuals they've decided they'd like to get rid of. All the playérs are playing at 75 to 80 per cent .
All playérs are human and have bad days.I don't think any players perfect.conversely I don't think our entire squads inadequate like some
