Reported in a dodgy red-top today that Man City academy player Jadon Sancho looks set to turn down a new contract and move to Arsenal....

The 17 year old is reported set to turn down a deal worth......

As I recall, Man City offered Brooks a slightly smaller deal. That being, they paid nothing and he was asked to leave.

Perhaps in that case, young Brooks won't be easily swayed by a move elsewhere when he's not achieved anything in first team football yet. If he makes a big impact like we all hope, we'll see if the big offers arrive, but United are in a far better position than last year and should be able to hold off bids much easier.

Not really sure why anyone is surprised by this.

The top clubs in every country can buy who they want when they want from any other clubs academy set up. Why do we keep going over old ground? This is the football world we live in. The amount the top end clubs are willing to offer future prospects is obscene but that is how it is.

Its nice that even Man City can lose a player to another club just like we can.

If Brookes is offered huge wages else where then no, we cant keep him .....

John Guidetti was also very, very highly rated.

Probably a bit of both. Agents really are snakes.
I recently read the Zlatan autobiography, and one thing that came from that was the way his agent was able to manipulate clubs with the design on simply earning as much cash as possible.

Sadly, somebody will always pay it by the look of it. And until some regulation is brought in to balance the disparity over where the money goes it just looks like it's not going to stop. And it's killing the smaller clubs, and it's killing talent.

Oh of course, players are always developing.

It would be interesting to have some stats of how many players go on to have stellar careers when presented with riches from a young age.

It's all relative though, I'd argue the likes of Nick Powell, Patrick Roberts have kinda fallen away since getting big money moves, but the money they will have made will be most than most people do in a lifetime.

Do you stick or gamble. Infact what is more of a gamble? Moving on a high wage to try and get in a premier league first team or gamble that your current manger has the conviction to play you at your current club?

The football industry understands how young kids are today, they know money talks and they know it would take a very very strong minded young kid to pass up a chance to earn thousands of pounds a week on the off chance he might get a regular start with his present team......

It's going to be a very confident individual that believes in himself enough to think he will be good enough to get game time and earn his big pay day the hard way.

He'd come out with £300k in his hand....however unless he starts knocking on the door of the premier league side by the end of the three years he may find himself dropping down the leagues and gone. Whereas if he gets experience and games at first team level he may stand a better chance of making a full career out of the game. And even down in league one mid table sides, these fellas are earning £200k a year.
You get my drift....who knows what's the right thing to do, nobody has a crystal ball after all. But I would never criticise any lad for taking the cash....you're a long time out of football and the rewards are huge and can set you up for life.

Sadly the lad will be aware of a great number of young pros of his age who ultimately failed as far as the big time goes. Anyone would have to think seriously about setting themselves up for life with a three year £30k a week contract when no one knows what's around the corner.

I would not have a go for a young lad moving for a big salary, but i would moan if the club have not tied him down to a contract that would enable the club to get top dollar for him if he moved on.

Isn't this why Brooks has been given loads of game time in the friendlies? It appears to me that CW is saying 'look, keep working hard and you'll play this season, stay here and learn with us'. That's as much as we can do really. And if Brooks does work hard, he'll have a similar trajectory to H, play for us until he's considered good at championship level, then go for big money to a club that intends to bring him through, not stick him in the u23s and forget about him.

A good season or so with us would get him a move to somewhere like Tottenham as a squad player pushing for first team. Then on to Real ....

I would also imagine that he sees his chances limited at Man City.

Which positiion does he play in? Who is in his way?

Maybe Arsenal are saying he will be guarenteed more first team football there?

It may not just come down to money.
