Strange how you remember the ref more for his (mis) handling, rather than the game itself.
Some of his decisions that day were straight out of the twilight zone.

The most inept refereeing display i have ever witnessed, the man had clearly taken leave of his senses, and dont get me started on Keiran O`Regan, the little ****

The Wap ! Had some interesting times in there back in the day
Full of Greboes

A fabulous place! I worked there in the late '70's. It catered to every 'cult' - mods, rockers, hippies etc. The only trouble was usually on Thurdsays when the 'ten bob millionaires' had got paid, donned their five quid suits and came down to 'have a laugh at the weirdos'. Wapentake then Limit (or Improvisions on Sunday). Happy days.

Can't quite make it out but wonder if it's Olga's name over the door.

Heard a story that Trust House Forte (who owned the Grosvenor Hotel) were concerned about the Wap's reputation and the image it portrayed to it's hotel guests. They considered closing it until they looked at its financial figures. It remained open.

At Christmas, there was usually a 'do' upstairs in the Grosvenor for its and the Wap's staff. We were treated like shit - put on tables on the very edge of proceedings etc. The General Manager of the hotel back then was a guy called Malik, a bloke for whom the word 'oleaginous' could have been coined. The staff and customers at the Wap were generally rough and ready but basically decent.
