Andy Murray has the hip issue. Federer advised 6 months rest. So we might see Ched in March.

Coincidence???

Come off it.

If he wasn't called Ched Evans and didn't play for us 95% of our fan base would be saying the same.

I hope I'm wrong but I know I'm not.

Most fans that didn't see him in 2012 have the same thoughts as you.
Anyone that went to matches that season saw the best striker we've had since Brian Deane.

Agree he may never return to anywhere near his best
But we know how good his BEST can be, he's potentially comfortably the best striker at the club.
As long as it's not costing much then surely it's a risk worth taking.
I'm not holding out much hope though but there's no real pressure on him so let's so what happens.

It seems some people are still influenced by his unsavoury off field behaviour and struggle to give a balanced view.

Bloody hell, give the poor sod a chance. Hes probably been working his arse off over the pre season to try and get up to speed and it may take a few weeks or even a couple of months to be at full pelt after his stop start season last year. Chesterfield having a shit medical team probably didn't help his cause either.

Given time I think he will be a success again at the Lane. Just needs time, a bit of patience, and the lad will come good again.

Are you a family man Danny? Do you wake up in a morning after telling the kids that you will take them to a theme park, the previous night....look at the clouds above at 8 o'clock in the morning and tell em 'fuk it...it's gunna piss it down all day....where not going anywhere...' you strike me as a glass half empty sort of guy? ;)

And others are just determined to grab a bit of attention...

No. He's a "hey, look at my glass" sort of youth.

I'm a realist. Nothing more or less.

He's probably working his bollkcks off that's definitely not the issue.

He's got a lot to prove. I didn't like the signing at the time and my opinion hasn't changed in that now. I can't see it working at all, 3 years in the nick and a year of niggly injuries why does that mean he ought to be moving up a level? For me we are signing him purely on the past. The 'bladey bladey' past as some on this thread might say...

The signings of Baldock, Stevens and Stearman are polar opposites to this for me.

His off field behaviour doesn't bother me at all. It's no worse than a lot that goes on in modern day football unfortunately, footballers are generally individuals who can't keep it in their pants.

My gripe is that we signed a player who has had 3 years in the nick then a less than flattering season for Chesterfield. Injuries after injuries, relegation for them, not too many goals.

If he didn't play for us previously and he wasn't Ched Evans there's no way we'd have signed him.

I didn't feel the need to make the points as I assumed it was common knowledge.

Maybe a message board doesn't convey it very well but I'm certainly not a know it all and nor do I pretend to be.

True. If he was someone else.
If he scored 35 goals for Preston and was called Mike Newall, got locked up for 3 years, came out the nick, was proven not guilty, signed for Chesterfield played around 20 games due to injury and scored 5 goals in league one and we went up and signed him this board would've been in uproar.

No one hopes I'm wrong more than me. I'd be so happy for him.

surely you can see comments like It's not going to work, it never was, and i hope im wrong but i know im not, suggest you think you know it all. nothing wrong with an opinion, its a notice board, we all have different opinions, but you can make a point without the look at me im right crap and respect opinions that differ from yours

Totally agree, that's the danger of communications via a message board, it can so easily be mis interpreted. I'm guilty of it myself.

Agree that hardly any decent sized clubs would risk taking him or even give him a trial.
However as I've said very few clubs or fans of other clubs realise just how good Ched could be.
At least no one seems to be pinning our hopes on him.
If he's a flop then we've not lost much.

Fair play to you Danny Boy. Well reasoned reply and I get where you are coming from.

I agree in part in that maybe Ched wouldn't have signed for us again if he wasnt Ched and if things hadn't turned out like they did back in 2012...but they did happen, and Ched was an exceptional talent then. I think it's a relatively low risk signing with the potential to he a real win for both the club and the lad himself. To be honest I think the lad deserves a second chance at Utd.

I cant say whether he will be a success or not...no one can at this stage... ;) but I think there is a fifty fifty chance that it could turn out well given a bit of luck and patience.

Let's see how it works out for 6 months before we start with the 'it will never work out' mantra though eh? You might be in for a pleasant surprise. Let's hope so anyway.

My worry is we all remember his one exceptional season in League 1, but whose talking about his 13 goals in 67 appearances in the Championship? Ok we were shit in his 2nd season and he did finish as top scorer with 9 league goals, but it's possibly a more competitive league now and he does seem to have fitness issues. At least he was relatively cheap this time around, not much lost if it doesn't work out.

Not one part of me is surprised Tunstall Fred has liked this. Zzz.

No one hopes they're wrong more than me.

But I don't see it. He's lost 4 seasons at the end of the day, and his record in the championship was hardly great was it before we got relegated?

It's a low risk - and I certainly hope it pays off. The lad has been hard done to and it's nice to see him back in a blades shirt but I don't consider us to be a charity anymore.

That's about 10 times you've said no one hopes Im wrong more than me. And I still don't believe you ,and I don't think you do either.
Evans is a quality player and will make you look even sillier.

Why didn't he last season then?

And do you think I care if you believe me? Why would I not want Ched to fire 30 goals in and secure us a play off spot? Weird.

he was a quality player, is he still??? i guess none of us know, only time will tell, but he has his best chance to get back to what he was under this management team, if he buys into it and works hard maybe we will have a diamond on our hands
