Blades membership con?

The insinuation was that I therefore should bugger off and support another team. The fact I've had a season ticket for 4 years previously is now irrelevant however. The problem with this scheme is that loyalty points for going to matches mean nothing if you don't have a membership of some sort.
You had the conversation not me so I can't really comment on what was insinuated.

I still don't really get what the issue is? You want to get tickets before they go on general sale but don't want to pay for the privilege? I'm in the same boat as you, in that I usually watch us more away than at home.

With a seat number? That won't work.
I didn't say anything about a seat number? Why would you need one? You get a voucher, you use it to buy a ticket for the game of your choosing.

I thought you meant a voucher for a (any) game. Clearly I'm not concentrating properly what with my mind on the umpteen Walker money calculations, tax implications and theories about it going straight to the East coast.

It's not a con, it's great value for money. Gives you 2 quid discount on matchday priced tickets. You get a free ticket when you've been to 5 and no doubt gives you priority over general sale tickets for the big fixtures. All highly commendable of SUFC.

So, there are 23 home league games and you save £2 on each - that's a £46 saving for a start. Then one of those games is free, so assuming this is an adult buying in advance of matchday, in the cheapest seats, that's another £20 saving - meaning a minimum saving of £66 quid - for your £25 outlay. So, in the worst case scenario, if you were planning to attend all the home league games you'd save £41.

If you only went to roughly half the home league games, i.e. let's call that 12, you'd save £24 up front, plus you'd get one of these games for free, so call that another £20 based on the above example, that's a saving of £44 minus your £25 outlay = £19 saving.

If you went to only 6 games you'd save £12 up front, plus one game would be free, so another £20 saving = £32 saving minus your £25 outlay, so you save £7.

If you went to 5 games ....you save £5.

If you went to 4 games - you lose £17.

Seems like a good deal to me?

I just don't see the point of accruing loyalty points if they mean nothing. If I have a season ticket for 5 years on the spin I have a load of points but if I then move away and a season ticket makes no sense I then have to buy a membership to "activate" those points or wait for general sale for when I want to go to a match. You're right that in the overall scheme of things £25 a year to guarantee not having to wait for general sale is not a huge amount but to me the mix of points and membership doesn't really make sense.

You'll wish you had those loyalty points when we're playing Chelsea in the champions league. ;)

East coast? Has Kev opened an account at the Skeggy branch of NatWest?

Am I missing something here? Why wouldn't you have to ask for the free ticket? Isn't the alternative they just send you one for a game you might not be able to make?
But just think how enjoyable it would be for the rest of us reading all the rants on here! :)

"I've never had a season ticket but have lived on John Street for 77 years and once shook Dick Wraggs hand. I think it's appalling that paying customers can get a free ticket when I can't. This club never learns. Joe Mercer out"

My point was more if you sign up to buy the membership based on the initial marketing you expect the majority of the games to be category b with the odd A game in there pigs, Leeds, villa and the odd c for shit games Brentford, Burton etc

Yet after starting selling the memberships they alter all the categories of games... scrap c and add a* and by the looks of things there won't be many b games to go to.... Brentford category a, barnsley a*, derby a

Seems like a bit of a con to me

When the scheme first came out and when we were in League 1 I was a bit sceptical it was just a form of fan tax. Now we are in the championship I think its essential or we'd see more away fans buying tickets in our areas for big games. I actually wonder if £25 is high enough to be a deterrent to some away fans.
Anyone who is not a member or ST holder this season won't be going to many away games next season unless they are mid week along way from Sheffield. Got mine yesterday, seems fair enough to me. Some big home games next season may sell out without ever getting as far as general sale, members will gobble them all up.

Bought mine today, I actually thought they would increase the price for this season.

Had trouble getting away tickets back end of the season due to not having one. I had the points, but not the membership so this is part of the reason I have bought one.

Also £1 off every home game, as well as a free cat B ticket after 5 games is pretty good value to be fair. As long as you attend 5 and get your free ticket, it pretty much pays for itself give or take a couple of quid (and depending what category games you go to).

Only working from memory, but a few seasons ago, the card cost £15 and the discount was £2 per game. If I'm right, it's not such good value these days. In addition, if you book online, there's a £1 charge, which cancels out the £1 saving.

I'll renew my card, without expecting a free ticket at any point (I've never claimed one yet). Using the card is convenient and as both Trig Jnrs have cards as well, we can book tickets and seats together.

True, I forgot about the £1 online booking fee. Fair point.

Question - I've got a membership, but trying to add my dad on to my account as a friend/family. I take it he'll be provided with a paper ticket?

I got one as , due to work can't get to many games and waiting for paper tickets last season wasn't convenient, especially when I could go with short notice

I once nearly shook Wraggy by the neck, in 1967 when we sold Mick Jones. The site of the protest was the back of the pavilion, which is now the car park ironically. One of the lads in the crowd ran up to him and booted him up the arse and lifted him about 3 feet in the air. Senny I think it was.

Imagine McCabe getting a size 13 up his tradesmans? The perp would serve time and be banned for life.
Some say that's a good thing...........

No doubt some sad cunt would be offended on his behalf.

So what's the point in your voucher idea? Just adds another stage to what's a fairly simple process. When you've been to 5 games, ring up and ask for your free one
You asked if there was an alternative so I provided one. I didn't suggest it was a good idea. It's just a feasible alternative.

Brilliant. Another alternative is every Cat B game, they shower tickets from the roof of the stand and you have to catch 'em. Like Hunger Games vs Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory

That's not really feasible though. Health and Safety issues.

Am I missing something here? Why wouldn't you have to ask for the free ticket? Isn't the alternative they just send you one for a game you might not be able to make?

I think the point that's being made is that when you've qualified for the free ticket, the next time you book they don't say 'congratulations Mr(s) So and So this tickets free'; you have to ask for your free ticket, otherwise they'll just go ahead and charge you as normal.

I fell foul of this last season, I (wrongly) assumed that the system would be aware I was due a free ticket but no such luck. By the time I queried it, thinking I would get a refund, it was after the game had taken place. Not a huge issue but they don't make it easy, particularly with the ticketing system which still seems to be behind the times.

The free game has always been a manual thing done by the ticket office staff. You have to say them that you have qualified, they then check to make sure you have attended the 5 and they then issue you with a free ticket. Maybe the new system will automate this up!
