Until then we stay as we are, it's an area we are NOT weak in so there is no need to rush.
'Until then we stay as we are...' oh OK then. If you think we shouldn't try to bring in another midfielder for 7 weeks then that's that then. This strategy (whilst I'm not in total disagreement with by the way) is in your opinion only and what you would probably do. However there's a good chance that you aren't Chris Wilder and CW may well have another view to yours. If CW wants to hold out for 7 weeks and play a game of who blinks first with Southend them I'm fine with that. However if CW wants to try and crystallise this transfer one way or another soon then I'm fine with that too.
Of course the 'hold your nerve for another seven weeks' strategy may well be a good strategy to have, alternatively it might be better to make a decision on the lad sooner rather than later and either try to make it happen so that the lad has some if the pre season to train with and integrate with the squad, or we move on to another target. Sitting and waiting to see of Southend 'cave in' and accept our existing offer just prior to transfer deadline day is an option granted, but that's all it is. Another option available to the club.
Back to your comment. I agree that we are not weak in midfield. But I do think that there is room for improvement (as there always is in any team/squad) and having another player in there with other playing strengths would only enhance our options. It's CW's call whether Leonard is the man to do that and whether he is his preferred option. I dont really know enough about the lad or CWs/the clubs transfer budget and strategy to categorically be able to say whether we should push anymore for the lad or not. Luckily though CW does and the fact that he has been chasing this lad suggests to me that CW also thinks that there is room for improvement and that he thinks this lad could add that improvement. Personally id prefer Utd to try and sort this out one way or another sooner rather than later so that we either get him or close the matter and move on, as I would prefer new lads to have as much pre season with the rest of the squad as possible. Whilst last seasons August transfers worked out well I do think that the circumstances where we had a lot of players not having pre season with us contributed massively to us having a piss poor start. A piss poor start for the club this season could see existing confidence evaporate quickly and it would be more difficult to turn around.
