We'll be fine mate. We have what other teams lack - Chris Wilder. Seriously, of course it's about players, but it's not as if our existing squad is exactly lacking, is it? Yes, we need to strengthen, but that's always the case. Wilder will sort things out. He'll not want to fall short after last season, so a little trust is needed. Three or four more players in and we'll be in great shape, UTB!

Disagree with that. George Boyd is a fantastic player at Championship level (only 31 too). Not sure where he will play or who he will keep out though. Maybe Wallace down the Right?

If any Blades are worried then spare a thought for Bolton and Millwall fans.

We consistently showed last season that our team was a class above those 2 teams and believe or not we're in the same division next season. I think it's the negativity (due to recent failures) that's in built into the club that is half the problem.

If you wasn't convinced last season then wait and see how Wilder turns the mentality of the club around next season. My concern is that I watched the Championship last season and the standard seemed surprisingly low. Surely it's going going to be tougher next season?
 
I think a genuine cause of potential worry seems to be the club budget policy for this year.

It seems to me that the club have a set financial budget for the year
And have decided to give Wilder 60% to spend this Summer
With 40% held back as a war chest to spend in the January transfer window.

Logic might suggest this could be a good idea because Wilder doesn't know for sure where our strengths and weaknesses are for next season. Remember he bought Jake Wright as cover but he shocked everyone by fitting in perfectly into our defensive formation so he became a key player.

I'm sure they'll be some surprises next season, there always is.
So may be it's best to hold some funds back until we know where we stand.
I think that's the reason why Wilder isn't in any rush to spend big just yet.

So I expect expenditure to be relatively modest in the 1st half of the season and no doubt we'll bring in some stars using the loan market. Wilder will be working on his loan targets already.

Chris Wilder to say he's more worried about his yogurt going out of date, than the forthcoming season?
FFS all you people starting threads about your concerns, the Blades have it under control and nobody is reaching for the bazooka.
 
I'm worried about which player will be appointed official forum scapegoat when Brayford goes.
 
I'm not so much worried, more disappointed that it's taking us forever to get our league one targets over the line with no sign of any "big" signings.
 
I can certainly see the point for bringing some experience in, I think CW will mirror Bassett's first season in the top flight where he went with inexperience to see how the early stages went, then signed experience in Marwood & Jones to back up the team.

Thing is, does paying through the nose guarantee anything? We've all seen expensive mistakes, we've all witnessed those 'experienced' players who've not been capable of coping as well as we'd hoped for, who we all imagined would provide the answer to any perceived ills we might have?

It always returns to the same predictable question - Have we bought well? As for the players brought in so far, I haven't a clue as to how they'll perform. I hope Evans delivers, and that's allowing for him slowly getting into his groove, so maybe a couple of months before he clicks and begins to deliver. As for the other players, well I hope they produce the same level of quality that we saw with last season's signings. I'm not worried, I rarely am, but I am curious, and any questions I have will soon be answered once the new season begins. By then I hope we'll have signed two, three, or even four new players to give us that bit of a boost, something that says we aren't being lacklustre when it comes to bringing in players of quality.

We stayed for six seasons in Division 1. A waste of this club's time, but if it meant that waiting for Chris Wilder to be available to take us forward, then surely it was worth the wait. Optimism hasn't disappeared that quickly, has it? I don't mean being blind to whatever it is that prevents us from moving forward, but let's think about the quality we already have, added to which the players who'll join this club and strengthen our ambitions. I know there are those who think that any perceived reluctance to spend money should be interpreted as having no ambition. I happen to disagree. I'm not the least bit concerned what other clubs do. Let those who feel it'll reap rewards do what they feel is necessary. By all means pay a fortune plus wages, let's see how any player performs over a season. Surely that's the only way to gauge whether the policy of spending a fortune has been worth the risk.........but for me? Good times ahead fellow Blades, don't allow despair to cloud your judgements, we'll soon have the new season upon us, and then the Blades will be turning up at t'Lane in their thousands, and every player will be aching to give their all for this club. There'll be plenty to discuss, plenty to compare, to argue about, to celebrate, isn't that the lot of a football supporter?

Ched didn't do anything for us in championship, didn't do well for Chesterfield when fit, and has been injured and or in prison for a long time.

Basham. He'll get turned inside out by some £10m+ forward and from then on he'll be 'shit'. And we've been grooming Lafferty all season, we've got posters chomping at the bit to say 'told you he was bobbar'. And Clarke's an ex-pig and a 'proven failure' at championship level. We'll be fine.

Let Wilder get on with it, he's building something big and with us all on board and behind him and the club they'll be no stopping us.

People are getting confused with my post - i'm not saying go out and get a big name, splash loads of money on one significant player, or bring in loads of people to make the numbers up - i'm saying shouldn't we be looking at players who have successfully cut their cloth in the championship for most of the careers and done a really good job at it?

I'm not feeling pessimistic about the upcoming season, i think we will comfortably survive because I do have full faith in Wilder - but what if the players can't hack it?

It's better than La Liga. If Pigs had have won the play offs though, it would be a "pub league"

People said this when we signed Jake Wright last season as he had never played in League 1 before.
 
Consolidation is different from survival. Part of me is hoping (Blades are optimists) that we'll surprise ourselves and others and be knocking on the door of the playoffs. Part (most) of me is believing that we'll start well (combination of momentum, passion, confidence and others under estimating us) then be hovering above the relegation spots until Christmas (Blades are pessimists). Then, in January CW will sign a couple of gems and we'll push on and consolidate around mid-table. I can't see McC or HRH allowing us to drop back into League One. They know it doesn't make financial sense after the last 6 years...

Why would we sign a player on big wages from a division above us? When did that last work? Oh yeah, Billy Sharp.
