I'm talking top half of the table. We pissed league one so i would expect us to be comfortable against the "lesser" clubs in the division. Can we go any better and actually press for a play-off spot or even aim any higher?
My own view is that we have a very good team and would hope to be pressing the teams at the top end of the table.Huddersfield showed what can be done with a good squad willing to put a shift in week after week coupled with players with experience of the division.
I don't want to get carried away with last seasons success but we are not going up with a squad that sneaked up but with a very good team with skill and passion both on and off the pitch. Top 10 for me and with a little bit of luck , who knows.

We'll be competitive and of that I've no doubt , it's just not part of Wilders DNA not to be competitive . But to claim we will challenge the top half over the course of the season is totally unrealistic . Furthermore , to maintain that we'll challenge the top six spots over the course of the season isnt just unrealistic its frankly stupid .

I don't think we'll be relegated but I think it'll be nip and tuck all season .

I think we must be wary that Wigan walked the league 2 years ago and were instantly relegated.

We have a solid squad and, whilst we can't rule out a top half finish, I would personally expect this squad to finish somewhere between 14-20th as it stands. I also must add that I think that would be a successful season, we can't expect too much, we have taken a few gambles on new signings which could go either way. Just need to take it game by game.

Realistically we are in our own mini league and must concentrate our efforts in making sure we get 3 points against teams that will be around us...starting with Brentford on the opening day....plus teams like Millwall, Bolton, Forest, Bristol City, Cardiff, Barnsley, Ipswich....etc....winning those types of games will be our foundation, anything more is a bonus.

Bristol City also walked the league and have been battling relegation ever since. Think we might be getting slightly ahead of ourselves!
Bristol City and Wigan both panicked and sacked the manager that got them promoted when they started struggling.

Hope we aren't foolish enough to try that.

With the squad we have at the moment no way will we be challenging top 6 or even top half. I would say bottom 8.
I don't think we will go down but I can see a season of struggle.

The only thing I'd say with certainty at the moment is that we won't get relegated.

At the moment despite us smashing the league below and the Wilder factor; our squad is way off a play off challenge I feel. Wigan dominated the year before with an attractive brand of football and came back down with a whimper. They had a Sharp type in Grigg also.

I have to say I have been disappointed we have not signed any real proven quality yet. That is not in the 'we have to spend money' and I agree it has not always worked to do that as Wilder says but we have to remember the core of our side Moore, O'Connell, Basham, Fleck, Sharp, Coutts, Freeman were not getting games for their respective clubs when they departed for us. I think Moore and O'Connell maybe were unfortunate not to get chances and are young enough to have improved but the rest not sure really.

The main reason I think we will be ok is Wilder though. He will ensure there is not let up and if a few of the above are not good enough with the level above, he will replace them. My only concern is that the talk was of the purse strings being loosened if/when we got up. The reality is most of our signings are bargain basements. I see the likes of Ipswich, Forest and Cardiff who were all bottom half and indeed none will be anywhere near promotion spending a million a piece and more on players and it does jolt you back to reality. The coutner argument of Huudersfield is there of course..

I would just like us to have gone out and signed 3 player down the spine, centre half, midfield and striker with pace, athleticism and some real quality at this level. Might have cost us 3-5 million to do that but if we had done that I think we might have been a surprise packet but currently I am not sure we can do much more than hope for consolidation. I am not sure why we would wait a year when we have an opportunity to carry on the momentum. That is why it is a bit disappointing our lack of proper investment. I hope we are not scrambling around end of Aug and Jan to get the quality in we maybe should this summer.

I am optimisitc we will not go down but I do feel when I look at the sides and squads we are up against; a finish of 15th - 20th would be about on par with where we are at.

We won't go down
Team spirit and good leadership will go a fair way to ensuring that

But the team isn't good enough to challenge for anything more than mid table and will probably finish lower than that

The club has the chance to improve this year, improve a bit more next year and then push for better things the year after

But it's starting to look like they don't particularly want to even make the first step, conveniently preferring to see how the League One team gets on rather than make obvious improvements

I'm thinking along similar lines. If there's a time to invest, it's now. With the current momentum it could be our best chance to challenge for promotion for quite a long time.

And it's not like we've got a manager who's going to waste money.

In football it seems the chairman and board use the fans mood as the barometer of what to do with a manager . Hopefully us fans and McCabe are more sensible and patient these days . Sheffield United need Wilder , but a managers life span diminishes every season . It's what you class as a successful season .

We have had both spectrums on forum . Staying up and going up . A good start and a home win against Brentford will help us all . We don't seem to do patience at the lane .

Chill out............it's still June FFS. We have competition for all positions and just need that bit of proven quality now..............or do we? I understand the needs of some to buy in proven Champ quality but at the end of the day, I prefer to trust in the ethos that CW is currently building at the club - after all, 4 games in last season it was "same owd" wasnt it, but then the team ethos kicked in and that can take us far......not saying promotion and all that , but we will be fine next season and build consistently IMO

A good CB (Jags), rejuvenate Brayford and we're top 6. You heard it here first.

if we get off to a good start and beat the grunts in sept. this board will go into fookin meltdown.think meself that chris will go for it ,its in his dna.

I thought Middlewood shut down years ago.

I don't do all this blind faith "trust in" rather than fact stuff so with the squad we have now we'll have a shakey start in a much better league and do a Wigan. We'll have 60+% of the possession in many matches but weaknesses up the centre of the park from back to front will be exposed by better quality opposition. Only question is when this is recognised, like last season, if before the end of August if we've done enough to fix it and survive.

Yes, I thought we might make a few 'big' signings. A Jagileka one would have made a few sit up and take notice or a real talisman in midfield to supplant what we have but I think we saw last season, teams could get through us if they attacked us but most sat back. at higher level we need to improve quality and to me need 2 centre backs, a big bastard in midfield and a real pacy striker who can run off defences. I think we wiill surprise a few but i also think we may get picked off quite a bit and hurt defensively. I was hoping we would have gone for it a bit more. That is being honest. Evans, Thomas, Baldock and Stevens are not even going to be regulars. I would rather us have just signed 3 definite starters in that spine and then moved out maybe Duffy, Basham, one striker to bench.

The crowds we've had this season after 5 heartbreaking years in the pub league suggests different.

I firmly believe Wilder will land a couple of players to "make the difference" and if we can get Holmes and Leonard,(please not EEL,sorry Wilder) we'll be mid table at worst and more likely do better than Barnsley just did.

The pigs played a few decent games(hang on, I'll be back after I've been sick) that's better, but they were nothing special over the season. In the play-offs they were fucking abysmal, don't tell me we can't do as well as that, if not better.

We'll be fine.
Just Hope that people are not expecting too emulate last season.
Consolidating our place in mid table will do for me.
Enjoy the ride.

I bashed my head in against wall after we lost to Sarfend in August. Just got out of a coma. I'm guessing we went down?
