Brooks staying

I wonder why this has happened... Potential rumour in the mill perhaps..? Personally I think wilder sees him getting either some appearances for us.. OR he wants him to learn in a better league..

Wants him in and around the 1st team. Expect he'll go to a L1 side if he doesn't look like he's ready for the 1st team squad. Would have thought Brooksy agrees with this.

I wouldn't rule out us selling him now to be honest, unless maybe a league 1 side has offered to loan him?

It would be daft to do anything other than have him with us for pre season.

He'll be given the chance to prove that we don't need to sign an attacking midfielder like him - we have been linked with similar types of players. Hopefully he makes his mark in pre season and becomes our main option for the right wing and also an option for the number 10 role.

Ahh a cheeky shortened URL to the Star. You little tinker.

I wish it was that clever! I copied the link from my tweet in my hungover state and couldn't be bothered to change it :)

As I said in the other thread - and "our manoeuvres in transfer market"

To me that suggest we might be struggling to get Holmes over the line. Wilder's had a year to watch Brooks and hasn't been inclined to give him a chance even off the bench. Unless its the Toulon performances that have changed his mind - showing he can perform consistently.

Massive upside if he comes into the side and fulfils his obvious potential with us - much more so than signing Holmes for me.

With our recent history you'd be more accurate with the title Brookes going?

TBH we need the cash for the fight to stay in this division and start to build and consolidate our status, if he were to go I'd be as upset as I was at loosing DCL last season, we did well with the cash he brought us so I'm with wilder should this happen and maybe I haven't seen enough of Brookes with a team of professionals around him, but it's a big step up for him, he's a standout player in the youth team no doubt.. great position to be in, and if Everton come again we can push the price up cause we don't turn out lemons do we..

I think it could be more to do with not getting Mackay-Steven and maybe one other who'd be an option from the right. Wilder might be looking to save himself a signing. And as a bonus give one of our quality youngsters first team opportunities, for once.

You could be right with this... Thought Brooks had played centrally though?

As has been said - it'll all upside giving him a chance. If he comes in and performs we have an exciting prospect, with a rocketing market value and like you say save a signing and can then use the money elsewhere. From all accounts as well he di well in the couple of cup games he got a chance in last year - and his performances this summer certainly merit a rethink of his potential loan

We are deffo short of wide options on both sides. Only really Thomas who can play there - still think as a low risk squad option we could do worse than get Riley or Chapman back again if Brooks ends up on loan.

Brooks is primarily a central attacking midfielder I think but at first team level he's more likely to be used from the right side at this stage of his development. The number 10 role is a high pressure, key position so I don't think we'd go with someone so inexperienced there. And due to his style the right wing suits him more than the left. He came on in one of the cup games at BL and looked good there.

I'd also say that Carruthers can play on the right side though, but ideally more as a wide midfielder than an attacking winger.

Makes sense to have another look but also I would rather him go out on loan to a League One club, if he doesn't play much for us. Seems he might return to Chesterfield though. I don't fear him been sold. I don't think even we're that much of a selling club! Besides, his value would only rise from doing well on loan at Chesterfield.

Suggestion from Chesterfield that this arrangement had been agreed in principle as part of the Evans transfer...

Chesterfield director & company secretary Ashley Carson has expressed his disappointment after Sheffield United withdrew their offer to let David Brooks join the Spireites on loan.

Brooks, who starred for the England U20 side as they triumphed in the recent Toulon Tournament, was due to link up with Chesterfield after a deal was struck for the sale of Ched Evans at the end of last season.

But the Blades have now performed a u-turn, leaving Carson bitterly disappointed. He said: “We had a verbal agreement in place and the paperwork for the loan was completed at our end so we expected David Brooks join us once he had returned from Toulon.

“We were looking forward to welcoming the player to the Proact but Gary Caldwell will now have to bring in another midfield player to take his place. Sheffield United have their reasons for reneging on the agreement and there is nothing we can do about it, unfortunately.”

It will be great if Brooks proves good enough to play first team for us. Does this put him above Whiteman in the pecking order or is Wilder just wanting Brooks playing at a higher level than cthe fourth tier ?

From what i have seen, they are different types of player. I would see Brooks in more of an attacking midfield role, and Whiteman more of a Central Midfielder.

Ashley Carson had done very little to endear himself to Wilder and other senior colleagues at BDTBL. Whilst he sees Brooks as an integral part of the first team squad he and others no longer see a need to "help " chesterfield and thus he stays with us.
