Brooks has a lot of talent, but I still think he needs a loan move until at least January, to get up to pace physically. If we play with a number ten next season he could become a viable option, as the position can cover up physical limitations.. I was a lone voice tipping DCL for a big move and impact on here. I think he still needs to fill out a bit, but his goal today was very typical of him. I also note the lucrative long term contract he signed recently.Hopefully we have a sell on clause in the deal.
I agree 'nopig' Brooks needs full time league football.

My feeling is that just like last season, CW will have his options covered in the number 10 role from the start of this season ( August ) meaning Brooks will probs spend the whole season at Chesterfield.
After that i see him as a perfect replacement for Duffy in the first team squad who will be at the end of his contract by that time.

Your probably bang on with this. A point I forgot to mention, is that lack of progress in the cups probably limited game time last season.

I notice that The Star has gone with Hirst on the front page, rather than Brooks or DCL, both of which actually scored in the finals.
Playing devils advocate i suppose DCL has nothing to do with SUFC any more and Brooks has not really come through our system.

Hirst, as much as i think he is the most fortunate player with regards getting opportunities at international level because of his fat dad was brought up in Sheffield and is playing his football in Sheffield.

As a side issue our own Jordan Hallam has scored more goals throughout the last 2 seasons than Hirst. No international call ups for Jordan though !! What a shock !!

The picture on the front is a link to an item about their youth system, which I haven't read. The sports pullout section has on it's front page a full-page picture of DCL holding the World Cup (Sheffield lad is England hero), and inside are further pictures and game report (City starlet joins game's greats...). They even bring in the fact that Coach Paul Simpson is an ex-Blade. If I was going to be sensitive, I could query why they say DCL was born in S6. But considering he hardly played for us, and wasn't rated by plenty on here, the coverage for the academy is generous.

Building a picture of a very mature young man. Imagine being able to resist the lure of the MASSIVE and choosing the light from the shadow of Hillsborough. Wise beyond his years.

DCL confirmed he was a regular kopite as a kid, in a programme in the Adkins season.

Watched him with the 23s last season and his development with our Academy was immense The lads balance and determination to attack the box led to winning penalties as well as scoring fine goals. Remember Ramsdale is also in the England set up as well. All rejected but developed by our Academy.
My wish is to see some of our own youngsters break through this year

The failing academy again! In today's Star, Brooks explains that he was ushered forward to receive something, but because it was in French, he had no idea why. It was a teammate who explained what the award was. Don't they teach them anything at the Academy? They'll have to up their game for our European campaigns.;)
