I was also very impressed with Charlton in the first half. They played a similar style to us, quick passing, great possession and high pressing, they just lacked penetration. Thought they'd outfootballed us for the 1st 30 mins, couldn't believe we'd finally met a team that could match us. It was only because they tired that we managed to dominate the 2nd half.

Like his team Holmes was impressive in the 1st half but faded away in the second half.

All about opinions. There were plenty around me (as well as myself) who were sat on the kop who thought he was the stand out player on the day, particularly in the first half. May have been one of his better days but 13 goals for a side who had a piss poor season says he must have been doing something right

I suspect you are really saying you would like him to be a target. If so, that's a very different thing. I disagree. He's a complete mediocrity and ought to be avoided.

Addendum: Just checked his attacking prowess: A grand total of 10 career goals in 9 star-studded years. Oh, and he's 5 foot 6. That'll be four "No"s from the common sense jury.

We're a Championship club, I wouldn't class a player who has had a good season in League Two followed by a good season at League One as the finished article.

If we're going for 30 year olds, I'd prefer them to have shown some ability at Championship level previously, I don't mind young players like Thomas from the lower leagues, but not older players.

My thoughts exactly.
I actually would of took a stab last year but not now. I'd prefer someone younger on the wing and considering we already have alot of older players on the books I don't think giving another a long contract would be wise.

He was most certainly the best player for Charlton that day but I didn't think Charlton were that good. They were certainly miles off our standard. If that was one of his better days I think we are better off with Duffy

I don't understand why Duffy has had so much criticism, he has been a key player for us this season. He's had a few off games, sometimes because he has been targetted to be bullied a bit by the opposition, but that's precisely because they know he is a play maker who can turn a game for us really quickly.

Proven in the Championship?

Let's sign one of those released from Norwich, they finished 10th or so didn't they? All established top end Championship players.

The standard Championship mercenary is the worst type of players to have too many of. I'm certain that Wilder has some of the good eggs on his radar though.

Wilder doesn't sign just any fucker. He clearly believes that even at knocking 30 this guy has what it takes. He's a very good player now. We can't have a team full of early 20's who are hit and miss but might be very good in a few years.
 
Not surprisingly Karl Robinson dosent want Holmes to leave, and is putting the 'Not for sale' word out down there.

But the player is interested, he shouldn't have turned us down last summer for a few extra quid, as I think he might realise.

If he stays at Charlton they will have to rip up his contract and pay him what we will offer.

Win win for player & agent.

That's because the kop is a toss view. You were probably too busy singing songs for the entire 90mins +pre-match, post-match and half time, even though the rest of the ground couldn't hear. :D

That's one player!

The majority of our title winning team are players who have consistently played at League One level or above and some had League One promotions on their CVs.

Out of Evans, Thomas, Holmes and Stevens, only Evans has a decent amount of experience above League One level.

Hopefully they will turn out to be Championship level players (assuming Holmes and Stevens sign), but it's still a possibility that they might not be good enough.
 
Of course there's a possibility. Like there was a possibility that the Premier League and Championship experience of Dean Hammond wouldn't translate into League One.

I think the point is to trust Wilder and not be overly prescriptive as to a players' potential for performance in any league.
 
I don't have any issue with players not having Championship experience I mean the people sayin Evans has Championship experience are the same people who say the Championship has changed so much since we were last there and would probably celebrate spending £1m+ on a player from he PL or abroad who has no Championship experience too.

I like what I saw if Holmes but can't help but he a little disappoint that he's not younger. but I guess not every player can be a long term prospect,we need those players that we know will do very well for a season and help achieve targets
 
Good thing about Holmes is that he's not really the type that relies on his pace or explosiveness. He's more of a technician. Good at crossing, dead balls and long range shooting. The kid from Hartlepool's the speed merchant.
