No one knows how Ched will perform, he could end being injured most of the season or not good enough.
So Wilder will keep his other strikers, think he'll give them all a chance to prove themselves at Championship level.

I think he understands it is going to make headlines so will be trying to keep it as low key as possible. He knows his comments on Evans will be picked up on by every media outlet for the next few days. I don't for one second think this has been forced on Wilder,he isn't that type of manager. After firstly not being comfortable with the signing I think if anyone can get him firing Wilder can so I am on board with it.

The comment about team spirit is an interesting one I fully believe what he is saying is that he has spoken to the players and they are all supportive of the decision. He was a very popular player in the dressing room when he was here and I think many footballers supported him (maybe secretly) through his incarceration.

The 500k is a load of tripe it will be nowhere near that so for me its not really a risk. Lets see what happens.

Different times.
Last season the fans needed winning round. We all thought the directors had no ambition and would go for the cheap option regards signings. So it was in Wilders interest to big up signings where possible.

The Ched signing doesn't need bigging up. We all know that he has the potential to be a top level Championship player but as he's hardly played for 5 years and didn't do much in league 1 last season he also has the potential to be a really poor signing. Anything could happen.

Also because of all the controversy and conjecture it would be wise in the early days for Wilder to keep any comments about Ched to a minimum just in case the press or forums try to twist his words.
 
I don't know about Jack O'Connell being magic, maybe Wilder is the magic one, he pulled a rabbit out of the hat with Freeman and Coutts and if he can do the same with Ched then i will well and truly believe magic is indeed real.

Well, to some extent they did go for the 'cheap option' re: Wilder's management team and signing's...compared to the very expensive loans/wages of the previous season and Billy's reported £600k fee!
Fortunately Wilder bought well rather than expensively!

It's not a biggie for me, I'm hoping the lad can come in and do a great job for us in the coming season...just thought Wilder might have been a little more positive here what with the 'unusual circumstances'...nip any doubts fans might have in the bud as it were...

We'll get a good idea of what's going on once the pre-season kicks in..
 
Glad it's all done, dusted and official now, and on the surface it's a statement of intent from the club that we are doing business early, hopefully to give all the players that will be here come August a full pre-season as a unit.

If Wilder is 100% on board, then I'm happy with it. As many have said, we all know the player that is in there somewhere, and if CW/AK can get him back to that sort of level we'll all be very happy.

All swell that ends well .

Still seems to be a bit economical with the truth . Player meeting Wilder closes the deal after both clubs boards meet . Still cannot work out if this was a done deal , just needing Wilders blessing .

Can't say it's a marque signing , just a worth a punt signing IMO . Evans has a lot of ground to make up and bridges to build . Up to him and how much he wants it and physically , mentally he is ready .
 
I'm mild mannered honest! Haven't we debated this enough!? We did that two weeks ago and ten million times when he looked like coming back before! Can't we just get behind Wilder and for he transfer and wages it could prove to an absolute bargain!

The line I like from Wilder is "The signing is just one element of the plans we have drawn-up for next season"

Isn't it just great to have Wilder as our manager! You just know he'll get it right this summer with signings. The only thing I don't trust him with is staying on his feet on an open top bus!
 
What else to say?

It's strange that we've ended up signing him 2 and a half years after his release, after a number of separate occasions where his return seemed to be ruled out completely.

It's an interesting signing, a low risk high reward possibility, and I'm glad he's back. But it doesn't feel anything like it would've done if we had signed him much earlier, when we were still in L1 and he was younger.

I wouldn't say that. Certainly not gushing but
'We have done our homework on the player. We pride ourselves on team spirit - as the fans have seen this season - and plan to bring in players who can be part of that.' seems to be quite positive.

I think he had to be more effusive about Leon because he's a ex-pig.
 
Wilder is unable to heap praise on Evans in the same manner as he did Clarke at the point of signing, because he clearly doesn't have the recent playing history to warrant such a positive introduction. However, he(CW) will have faith in his own ability to bring the best out of a player who was previously playing well and scoring regularly.
Evans for his part will need to recognise what Wilder has achieved in the last 2 years and realise this set of circumstances he now finds himself in, represents his best and probably only chance to get his career back on track.
Now he is here I hope he flourishes and scores the goals that bring Wilder, McCabe and all us Blades fans further success

It seemed pretty bog standard to me mate, especially as everybody and their dog knew that it was going to happen.

The best thing that we can do as a club now is keep it low key and get on with the rest of the recruitment. There's absolutely nothing at all to gain from Wilder waxing lyrical, Evans has a lot to prove, I must admit that I cringed a bit when McCabe got on about him being an innocent man when asked about him coming despite anybody even asking the question.

Wilder's got it spot in in my opinion, gently does it for now and then it's over to you Ched.
 
After a number of nightmare years Ched must be thinking all his Christmases have come at once.

A midfield trio of Duffy, Coutts, Fleck and two excellent wing backs in Lafferty and Freeman all providing the ammunition.

It's a better scenario than 2012.

Doesn't scan, sorry. It's like something by Ginsberg, or maybe Dylan in the mid-60s, where they just keep cramming as many extra words as they can into really long lines that go on and on forever.

Would be neat if you could get it going, though, as an alternative to "JoC's Hat" :)

Yeah, strangely cagey, I'd say. All sorts of ways of interpreting it, positive and negative, but seemingly out of character with Chris's previous pronouncements. And the "board sorting it, then the manager meeting the player" comment just seems to murky the water further.

I wouldn't have said he's worth a punt myself. But he's here now & no point raking over the old coals. As you say, it's up to the player to prove himself.

Can't say I read them as positively as you do, personally. E.g. why not specifically have said something like "Evans will clearly buy into the team spirit" rather than be so vaguely abstract? And previous signings have surely been announced more in the effusive sort of way that Leon's was than tin the tight-lipped way that this one has been?

But, not wanting to make any big issue out of it. Time will tell, no doubt.

I think you're looking for things that might not be there. Bear in mind the way the media likes to quote things out of context. My press release would have been dry and factual for that reason. And if ever a signing needs no introduction....

Yeah, the "keeping things brief and low key" point that you both make is a good one. Don't fully agree, but ... well, the proof will be in the pudding.
