Sadly, we won't win every single game in this league, no-one will. Every time we fail to win, tactics, team selects etc will all be called into question. This has the benefit of one very large factor, hindsight.
Now against Birmingham, we created far more chances than they did (whilst not looking all that dangerous admittedly). We made a talented team look more than ordinary going forward and defended resolutely, until the very last minute. You could hardly say the tactics were horribly wrong could you? Tactically, it went very well until Phillips came up with their first shot on target with virtually the last kick of the game. A draw would have been respectable, but we made enough chances to win the game. Surely in those circumstances it was down to the players not taking chances?
Remind me where our only goal came from on Saturday?, A ball up the channel to Sharp, who held the ball up before playing to Halford, who put in a perfect cross from the byline. If that isn't decent wide play, I don't know what is.
You are 100% right with the things you say about Cotts last season, sadly that was last season. As I've mentioned elsewhere, for me, he looks like he needs a proper pre-season. Barring the odd run where he's beat 2 men and then given no end product, he hasn't looked a patch on last season.
Halford for me should keep his place, with Cotts on the bench, playing plenty of reserve matches.
It's all well and good being a "natural" winger (although he's been described a lot of his career as a striker

), but when you don't impose yourself on a match and you consistantly cross behind everyone then you end up being kept out of the team.
All managers make mistakes. Players and managers are not machines, we just hope that the mistakes are out weighed by the good moments. It's a little bit early 5 games in to be sure just what is going to happen over the season, look at Sunderland.
