Yes folks .The Daily Mail Sports reporter of the year Martin Samuels couldn't wait to have a pop at his obsession his Arch nemesis Sheffield United .
Strange how he was not prepared to comment on Southend united s Kit man !

Much as I detest the man, he at least does raise the question some of us have considered which is, why? No I don't want a debate about it. It's covered by "it's a gamble that may or may not pay off apparently".

Fairly 'rounded' stuff...he might have an axe to grind with us but there's nowt in that people on here haven't questioned...the only bit he misses out is there might still be player in Ched...but going on the stats alone, you wouldn't think so.

It's a very common question by neutral observers
"Why would SU buy a striker who has struggled this season"

There's a simple answer.
For the last 6 months of this contract Ched Evans was one of the best strikers I've seen play for United since Brian Deane, he was ripping league 1 apart, head and shoulders better than league 1 standard, the best player in that league making us almost a 1 man team. Based on that standard in todays market Ched would be worth 5 to 10 million, put it this way I'd rather have the Ched of 2012 instead of £10 million Jordan Rhodes.

So it's a gamble paying up to 500K for someone that we know has the potential to be a £5 million + player.
Also when you consider Wilders superb track record of resurrecting careers and getting the best out of players then it's doesn't seem so crazy.

But most neutrals have never seen Evans in his final season for us and don't realise that based on his prior form he was arguabke capable of PL league football and breaking in to Welsh international squad.

Imagine if Eric Cantona ban was 3 years instead of 8 months, do you think no club would be interested. Agree though that what makes Ched different is that for the first 2 years of his contract at SU he was very ordinary and one of our worse signings considering the big transfer fee we paid for him.

It is only a 'common' question for those who don't know the facts. He has been carrying his heel injury since the autumn which may have just had the teensiest weensiest effect on his game.

Chesterfield are skint and making economies right left and centre.
I think it is fair to say he has probably not had the benefits of cutting edge medical science to help him through this.
The two things may or may not, be linked.

Chesterfield have directors/shareholders with a Wendy connection.
We have been interested in Ched for months, but the story breaks a few days before we play them.

He was playing for Blackwell.

Billy couldn't score under Blackwell.

In 2007/08 Ched scored 10 goals in 20 starts for Norwich in the Championship.

That seems to the argument that some don't get. Some people don't agree that he will ever be the player he was for one season, 5 years ago going up a level.

Evens had I great season in league 1, In the Championship he was rubbish for us. So it is a gamble no matter what way you look at it.I hope he comes back next season fully fit and raring to go.I guess we will find out.He started the season pretty good though.

'It's the hope that kills yer'

Still, I'm in the same boat mate, looks like it's happening, it's a gamble (hopefully a small one) and I hope it works out...

It's not 'agree' though, it's 'believe'. There's a very big difference. His fitness won't be determined by debate or election.

I'm sure they used the best Leeches money can buy ;)

Spot on and as I said yesterday, if we can;t prove his fitness we won't sign him.

I guess that strictly we can't even give him our own medical until the transfer window opens in June, which makes it even more suspicious as to why anyone would leak it now. Unless, of course you just wanted to stir the shit before we play.....er...........Chesterfield.

But it seems that the people who really know about fitness and ability, CW and AK et al appear to have accepted the gamble.
If so, who are we to try to second-guess them?

Yes. That's my point. They're in a much better position to assess his fitness than we are. Our opinion on his fitness is irrelevant.

"That part of the ground is now named the Redbrik Estate Agency Stand — it was never more than an opportunist gimmick to involve Ennis-Hill, anyway — so is no longer an issue"

I sense this chap still has a bit of a downer on us.
And WE are told to get over it.

Lets just accept that Samuels is a first class c*nt and will never miss an opportunity to criticise our club. CE is an innnocent man but had he not had the sentance etc would c*nt MS even be bothered to comment on a championship club taking a small calculated financial gamble on a striker who has been out injured for a while but had previously shown he was a good striker

That's completely correct to be fair.

Well rounded comments. We're still not assured that ched is signing so we'll have to wait and see but if there's one man who can resurrect ched's career, it's tufty, he's already done it this season with various players who were scared of the ball under Adkins!!. I've got unwavering faith in wilder to sign the players that can do a job for us next season without paying over the odds for shite players( Rhodes is the first name on that list). Up the blades.

One day, the fat that he eats in his daily ribeye steak will clog his coronary artery and on that day, we will rejoice.

Got it in one. Being the Mail's Chief Sports Writer, Fatboy has every sport in every country on the planet to write about, but chooses to continue his obession with the Blades (which goes back to the Warnock period). Where I think he is right is the it was never more than an opportunist gimmick to involve Ennis-Hill, anyway bit. It was an ill-judged bit of bandwagon-jumping by McCabe, for a bitch who has no connection with us whatsoever. But while Fatboy is playing the 'poor little innocent St. Jess of Ennis' card, she could have turned it down and chose not to. But, as we know, she'd promote anything if it added to her ill-deserved fortune. If she thought the Chedgate saga would harm her carefully-cultivated 'brand', she apparently had no such qualms about the utterly-venal Santander.
