Welcome back Ched!

I'm happy to have you back even if no one else is!

If we can get him fit we'll have an absolute bargain there for £500k. If he doesn't make it then it's not a lot to lose. Remember this is a league where strikers are going for £10m or more.

As for the past - irrelevant. He's innocent.

There's no reason why that should affect anything. Except for those with a very small mind.

This is a 150 pager, if ever I've seen one.

Fixed that for you ;)

Wow what can you say. I'm gobsmacked.

On one hand you have the trust wilder aspect. He's been faultless with his signings and mentality.

The second hand though says why go there!? We have had this speculation for ages and it was finally put to bed. I don't go along with comments he had one good season. He had potential and was a good player for us, but that was before he went inside. Not exactly had a great season at Chesterfield, and heaps a little bit of unwanted spotlight on us after a terrific season

Because it's a fucking stupid comparison. McNulty won't be with us next season anyway and wasn't good enough this season. Wells at Huddersfield is probably available for 500k at the end of the season

So Evans or Wells?

Putting everything to one side, Wells for me definately. He's been in form, plenty of room left to develop more. £500'000 for him would be a fantastic price imho.

If it happens it will be interesting to see the response if it comes off and he scores goals and plays well, everybody and his dog has an opionion but some of the comments I have read in the last half hour are over the top, I cannot believe Wilder wouldn't be on board, I have no idea how good he would be but the old ched, the one Wilder and Knill knew would be a good addition, question is, is he any good now? The past " problems" mean nothing to me, he was innocent move on, its a football decision nothing else.

Nothing to do with what he did or did not do. He's hardly played when chesterfield needed wins so tells me he's not fit, which his manager repeated last week. So a bloke who did not play for 3 years and hardly this season because his body can't handle it is suddenly going to be ready over the summer. Someone must know something we don't to pay 500k for a hit in the dark

Hmm - a bit surprsing, this....

Ched has not really proven himself at Championship level, and this season suggests he is way off the pace in terms of fitness (let alone how he might be mentally). CW may well turn it around for Ched, but I think given the baggage, and his Championship record, it's not a signing I'd be looking to make.

However, in CW we trust.

I'm thinking this may be a wind up because I've just looked on various news websites and apparently the story was put on social media by rob staton( radio Sheffield journalist!!). I don't know anything about this guy to prove that it's a credible story but it was in the daily express and daily star and that already puts major doubts in my mind!!. I have complete faith in wilder and knill. WE DON'T NEED HIM!!!!!!.

He was carrying an injury when he played in the Championship. He gained fitness and pace and blew League 1 defenders away. Any fan who cannot see the potential here is not able to look objectively at a player's ability. There are those fans who believe that there are pigeon holes into which you can slot footballers and allocate them according to a particular level from 1 to 4 in the football league. Then there are fans who know that players prosper (or not) according to the many variables that make up the beautiful game. I'm not going to list those variables, simply because those who don't want to think about them wouldn't take any notice anyhow. They're the ones who think they know better than the one heading up that list - the Manager!!

Seasons not even over. This could have waited

Purely from a footballing perspective...is it really worth us signing him??

Current value based on this seaon £100K
Potential value based on what we know he can do £5 million plus

So £500K seems a decent gamble. Might work, might not.

The negative about Ched is he has ability but a bad attitude (say the same about Leon) but Wilder has a knack of getting the best out of a player and improving their attitude.

I've heard rumours the amount is closer to 150k. Obviously I won't divulge the details.

Don't see 500k. He has 1 year left and is a league two player. We bought carruthers / clarke etc for less.

Think it's a decent risk for a cheaper amount. 500k would be too much.

It's not whether he is coming or not coming . If Wilder makes the decision , then it's good enough for me and everyone else . No exclusive club here with you being the only member .

What's thrown fans is the timing of it , that's all .

Any moralising about this is weird. He's been found not guilty in law.

But it's not about moralising or what the law says. 15 page thread and there's only a handful of posters going through the (very old, very tired) moral argument.

It's the timing of the leak, the football basis of the transfer, the fee and the fact that regardless of what a court says, he's a contentious figure with a lot of baggage involving this football club.

Mind boggling.

And he's just had a full season where he didn't prove his fitness.

I would love pre prison League 1 Ched but I don't want post prison league 1 Ched or can't hit a barn door in the Championship Ched

I'm not concerned about the publicity & I don't think it will have an adverse effect on morale but from a player point of view I believe we have better already

Maybe. As I have said in another post I personally wouldn't have gone back in for him but Wilder is a better judge than me.

I'm not really talking about fitness. That's an entirely isolated subject. I'm talking more about his overall condition. His body will have changed slightly during his time away having not played much football if any. It takes longer than a year to get the body tuned back up for that.

Don't know why we are re-visiting this, or doing it now all seems a bit of a farce that is detracting from the amazing season we have all just witnessed, I have a feeling McCabe as played a major part in this and Chris as had to play along.

Maybe with a good pre-season and under the management of Wilder and Knill could be an OK option in the championship, still not overly sure why we have gone down this road as I suspect we can attract and get better with the season we have had and the profile of a club on the up.

Because he's just signed a player that completely divides the fan base.

Thank the good lord he DOSENT listen to the fans then . Judging by opinions on here from time to time he'd have been a looney to select any of the current squad .
