Cue meltdown

Frankly, I'm disappointed with this decision. I thought we had moved on. Of course I will support our team but it's a big gamble for an a injury prone, maybe past his best striker. Maybe the prince has given wilder a big budget for next season and they feel it could be a gamble worth taking. As a father though of 2 daughters, I'm disappointed

What's with people getting so wound up about this? He's had his case overturned.

And purely on footballing reasons., if we can get him anywhere close to where he was a few years ago, it's a bargain for the price
no - he couldn't hack it in the Championship when he was fitter and free from injury.

Backwards step for me, don't think he can do it in the championship. He couldn't before when we were there, so don't think can do now.
My optimism for promotion is slightly waining.

Not sure you should be expecting promotion in our first season, anyway.

How about this for a scenario. Maybe a Certain Football Club (for short CFC), were short of cash mid season and had a personal loan made to them by an individual who is, say, a rich King of Manufacture (say KM for short). Would it not be possible that this deal to repay that loan offered some sort of asset to be moved to the loanee when a window of opportunity arose? If that was the case then that asset wouldn't be used in case it got damaged.

Just a thought.....

Personally hope it s true,Ched was a silly boy but did nothing wrong legally as his RE -trial proved (that kind of situation happens all the time but police don't push it ) he is miles behind the levels he was at before going down and may never reach them levels again,no way will we pay 500k.
Maybe ched had a clause in his contract giving him the option to go at an agreed fee,no way that fee is 500k

£500K is a mere drop in the Ocean when compared to the rest of the Prince's game-changing money promise. Don't forget - the aforementioned cash was dependant on us winning promotion to the Championship.
Also, don't forget, an unfit Ched, ran us ragged at Chezzy (until he went off injured).
Welcome home Ched. In Wilder We Trust.

I would be asking my daughter what the hell is she playing at and tell her to stop drinking and taking drugs if it makes her lose control so she doesn't know what she's doing.

Also regards moral compass I'd say violence and repeat offending are far worse. Everyone makes a mistake but some people never learn and keep making the same mistakes over and over again like Marlon King.

Second one is a valid point I'll grant you. First one I see your point, but it still wouldn't be the girl's fault obviously.

I reckon without our midfield of Duffy, Fleck, Coutts and Freeman/Lafferty overlapping chucking balls into the box, Evans will score a few goals.

Around three weeks ago I was told Evans will be coming, there was talk some time ago that he was taking us to court because of his contract, apparently the contract he was talking about was the one offered when he was released and not his old/ original contract and which United changed there minds on, apparently United have decided instead of fighting it and maybe losing they may as well let him come as they are paying him anyway, no way can I back this up and the reason I didn't mention it before was because of oh no not another ched thread, but there you go, coincidence? I have no idea.
This is no coincidence, I heard exactly the same thing mate.

Treating a woman like what?
What did he do? The current facts are he slept with a female Ina threesome with his mate. Happens.
Not saying it's how I would carry on, but he's not committed any crime apparently.

King was years ago....he's been gone years, I hated the bloke, and have no issues with anyone having a go at him personally.....but he alone wasn't the club. But the over reaction....."Only just got over it"....Jesus wept. Get a grip.
As for don't rush back....the point is, that kind of support from fans won't be missed by the players. Ere are possibly 30 blokes gonna pull on that shirt in anger next season, and you and others are deserting the other 29 on the basis you don't like the fact he treated a woman like a cheap tart.
Whether she is or not is nothing to do with me and not my question to answer. I don't known her.

The news is barely out of the fucking womb and people are back on this argument again.

This is why it's a bad idea.

(Don't mean you specifically, Grizzly...I mean everyone. It was a contentious issue with many different opinions and it always will be)

Colleague of mine is mates with Chesterfield Ladies Manager and it's true, talked to him about it yesterday.

If this is Wilders doing then I believe he has earned the right for us to put our trust in him after the season he's given us. There were plenty of people saying we should have got rid of freeman before the season started and now look, same with coutts. If he does re-sign all we can do is see what happens. If anybody can get the best out of a player and 100% in every game it's Wilder.

I think people saying this isn't a Wilder move are actually doing him a diss-service no way on earth Wilder lets McCabe sign anyone without him okaying it, imo.

Look at what he said whilst at Northampton, he is not one to hold his tongue. If Evans does sign you can take it that Wilder was on board with it.

Seriously?

The club have finally got their shit together, united the fans and everyone associated with Sheffield United, had a fantastic season and become 'as one' more than they have in years. They could be risking that by signing him, because it will be divisive amongst supporters as there are still some out there (fans), acquitted or not, who still hold what happened against him, and would not want to see him anywhere near the club. All the good work of this season - getting the fans to fall back in love with the club could quite easily be undone (for some), and the apple cart well and truly upset.

Me? I just think it's a backwards step. £500k for what now is a 29yr old Lg 2 player? I think better and younger will be out there for the same money.

ffs he was crap at championship level for us even before he became a jailbird

Stop exagerrating, he was dissapointing at Championship but still scored a few, hardly crap.
However at league 1 level for anyone that went to matches they'd see he was a revelation, the best player we'd had for years and arguably close to PL standard.

Chris Wilder, the man who looks set to take us up at the first time of asking with 100 points polishing many a turd along the way, thinks its worth the gamble. I'm happy to defer to his wisdom in this case. 500k (if true) doesn't get you much in the way of decent Championship players these days anyway so I would assume that's not put a massive dent in the budget.

Personally I'd have drawn a line under the whole thing but we are where we are. He's an innocent man in the eyes of the law. While his antics in Rhyl wouldn't have shown him in a great light without the rape allegation he's hardly the first footballer to behave in such a way he's paid more than the price and hopefully grown up.

This has been one of the most enjoyable seasons of football I've seen in my lifetime. Would take more than this to ruin it for me.

this isn't making sense. a risk not worth taking and half a mill is eye watering....

more to the point this is gonna make one hell of an egg shell tea time talk with the lass, who'll no doubt fire some of the blame in my direction.

I can't imagine Wilder would have chosen him. It doesnt seem to fit. But I actually hope he has, i'd hate Ched to have been thrust upon him.

They were already fucking stick with us. Couldn't get rid of them. Huge difference if you think wilder would have paid 500k for coutts at the start of this season

He transfer listed them because as a Blade he saw what we all saw last season, he didn't have to play them. I bet you he's glad he did now.

This is one of those, it could go either way. IF Wilder chose to sign Evans and it goes well he'll be glad he did sign him, if it goes wrong he'll be out of the door in no time.

Evans will have it put to him very simply, if he doesn't perform he'll be gone, he'll want to prove a point and he'll be hungry.

I saw a rumour thread earlier, Robbie Keane... which would you prefer? Robbie Keane on 10k+ or Ched Evans (500k upfront, but probably lower wayes and 7 years younger)

And I'm exaggerating???

True but prior to this season he hadn't played any football for about 5 years. It will take him a while to regain the same conditioning and sharpness.

And he's just had a full season where he didn't prove his fitness.

I would love pre prison League 1 Ched but I don't want post prison league 1 Ched or can't hit a barn door in the Championship Ched

I'm not concerned about the publicity & I don't think it will have an adverse effect on morale but from a player point of view I believe we have better already
