Nice one Leon

Also amazing how as soon as Lavery gets injured Clarke returns and comes to the fore. Perfect timing. It highlights good management, but also shows how smoothly things are going for us this season.

I thought he oozed class today. Clinical for both finishes, what impressed me with his 2nd is whilst Duffy & Sharp led the counter, Clarke just jogged about 10 yards behind them and timed his run into the box to absolute perfection.

Just shows what a squad we've had as a whole. Been unlucky with Clarke's fitness but you're always going to have one or two in a season and the important thing is that we've had the depth to change it up and get results whenever needed.

Can only put it down to youthful ignorance
Fast pacy players catch the eye much like a Fisher price toy but the more discerning knowledgeable football supporter will see the effectiveness both offensively and defensively of a player on his teammates and oppononents

Hanson does a job ,when he came in teams had sussed how to play us and even against the teams we were outplaying we were wasting chance after chance and not getting our just rewards

The manager decided that what was needed was James Hanson and I don't think it's any coincidence the ship has been steadied since he came in and we have looked much more clinical
These are the sort of comments I used for Done but was told Doney was crap? Not by you but.....just saying.

About time we tipped our hat at billy here. Everyone said don't change Done because we're winning, don't change lavery because we are winning. Hanson steadied the ship and Clarke finished the job.

The one constantly throughout

Billy Sharp

Take a fucking bow son

Hate to say I told you so, but, well, I did.

DronnieBlade will be gutted.
Far from it Danny. As I have said on other threads, pleased to see him actually start to make a positive contribution to our season. It took him a while, and maybe this was indeed more down to fitness / injuries than anything else, but also let's not kid ourselves he wasn't poor at the start.

Tufty rates him, I'm still undecided, even now during a purple patch.

But there is no doubting 5 in 4, even in this totally dominant side,is impressive.

Well done Leon.

Fair play to him he's done the business and no one can take that away from him.

I personally have doubts also, there is a reason he always finds his way back to League One and I expect he'll be back in League One before the end of next season.

I would also have put my mortgage on that 4 weeks ago.

Tufty rates him. Tufty knows more than me !

All we know for sure right now is that Wilder rates this squad for League One.

Anything could happen between now and the end of the summer transfer window!

Exciting times ahead! (Hopefully not the typical United disappointment)

I've always liked him as a player and I think he can certainly play a big part next season, probably not as a regular starter but certainly off the bench and starting 10 - 15 games. His finishing is arguably the best at the club and even though he's 32 he looks and plays like he is in his peak as opposed to on his way out. Long gone are his overweight days like he had at they Sty!

Well done Leon.

Well put :). He looks properly fit now, sharp and hungry. Like a lot of us on here, he's probably pissed off the season is about to end.

I didn't see it mentioned outright above but not only were they finished with either foot but both were first time finishes too. No second touch to get the ball under control.

That impressed me also as much as his overall performance.

Another one Chris got bang on.

Clarke's excellent run gives him 6 goals in 21 league games.

If he bags 4 in the last 2 games - difficult, but not impossible - he will end up with 10 in 23 games, and (assuming Freeman doesn't score) second top scorer in the league.

Those would be excellent stats - but would not tell the whole story of the season. It's interesting...

Look at his left footed goal at Chesterfield.... and the one at Northampton.... and the one yesterday. And then look at that superb volley at Vale with his right.

How the hell are you supposed to tell what his stronger foot is?! He even dribbles with both feet too. I think he's genuinely naturally two footed.

This alone makes him an asset. He can receive the ball on either side and score a goal.

Add that to his physical condition - he appears to be in his prime despite being 32 - and there's no way he's going anywhere next season. He's staying put.

And under a manager like Wilder who will keep him focused, there's nothing to say he won't surprise a few people and have a big impact in the Championship.

He was about 20 stone in his theoretical prime, I genuinely think he'd have had a career higher up the ladder if he wasn't a porker (in size and club) in his mid 20's.

Praise where it's due, he's be good in the last 4 games, not enough to make up for the start he had, but can't complain about 5 in 4, that's the signs of a good striker to me, so we'll done Leon. Still not the biggest fan though.

I like most on here are loving see Leon show his full potential. I think its also time that someone took a photo of him at the Lane so it can replace the current photo on him on wikipedia where he is wearing a Wednesday top and is when he was overweight!

Fair play to you DronnieBlade for admitting that.

Does the same apply with Hanson, or is Tufty still clueless on that score?
The mistake I've made with Leon is having a perception he's a target man. He isn't. In fact he's rubbish at it.

I remain to be convinced, for a whole host of reasons, he and Billy can work well together. However, I also concede now that it could, played in the right way, be somewhat effective.

Hanson is a different kettle of fish tbh. I remain uber sceptical.

Even if Tufty says so !!!

Fair enough for admitting your 'mistake' but saying 'somewhat effective' seems a bit weasel words given the goal scoring in the last few games.

Surely the proof is there in the stats. We haven't lost since Hanson joined and his initial impetus (when Clarke and Chapman were unavailable), has helped move us on to another level. For that reason alone, you have to place 100% faith in CW.

Sorry, but in my book you back Wilder and his judgement, or you don't.

People were saying him and sharp can't link up and play together, yesterday proved they can. They're both class strikers and know where the net is. No doubt Clarke has got an unreal left foot on him. His goal at Northampton was class the way he looked across at the linesman, then glanced up at the keeper to see where he was and slotted it top corner. I've always rated Clarke and always said to people that he'll come good. Wilder has definitely got the best out of him and both must be praised, imagine if he wasn't injured for half the season, I'm guessing he would easily be on 15 goals.

Clarke has done well in recent games. He needs to keep it up. Time will tell if he is able. 4 good / decent games ain't much to go on. IMHO. If he slips back to the form shown previously, he won't last too long !!

Of course I back Wilder. 100%. Doesn't mean I can't question his judgement on occasion. When it comes to Hanson, suffice to say, I do !

Leon was always going to be a top player at this level. It's just really unfortunate he hasnt been able to get going until the end of the season, due to injury.

I forget the stat, but he has a phenomenal goals-per-game ratio in the 3rd, and when closer to full fitness was always likely to be a threat with the number of ball-playing providers that we're currently blessed with.

No idea what his stats are for the Champ, as I'm afraid my attention has been, ahem, elsewhere for the last 6 years.

Exactly. You can see quality in his game - e.g. against Chesterfield - the finish against Port Vale. We were lucky Billy fired in his absence. A fit Leon up there with Sharp would have probably led to us destroying teams.

Not sure either for the Champ - may be a step too much for him, but from what I've read he is mentally and physically fitter than when he last played there, so lets see next season if he can make the step up.
