Apparently Marcus Maddison is to be transfer listed in the Summer, really hope we are interested.

He will be, that's what they do when their players get into the last year of their contract.

It means there will be plenty looking at him, hopefully we'll be in the mix, and hopefully his inconsistency has put off some of the bigger hitters.

Its about time he made the step up, he's been one of the better players in League one for the last couple of seasons, hopefully his inexperience in Championship will put people off. Plenty of Peterborough players have proved to be good signings for championship clubs, they have a keen eye for young talent.

I'm hoping Fleetwood don't go up so we can easily cherry pick McLaughlin or Bell.

Also think we might go in for James Meredith if Bradford aren't promoted. Maybe we could consider Josh Cullen too, their midfielder, although he's only on loan from West Ham.

Many of our supporters don't see us being big spenders this summer but what is a big spender in the Championship? £20m on transfer fees is a big spending side at that level to me nowadays.

Mid table sides seem to be spending £8 - £10m + wages now.

Many teams, even mid table teams, will have bigger budgets than us. IMO at least. What would've been 'game changing' in 2013 wouldn't be quite so game changing now.

I'd also expect many clubs in that league to have more expansive scouting networks than us.

But I will back us right now to get better value in the transfer market than the vast majority in the league. That boils down to having a management team who know how important recruitment is, know how important character is and work very hard on finding the right players.

According to the commentator at Rotherham v Pigs the Millers were asking £5 million for Danny Ward. I don't think they'll get it and I hope not. It's a ridiculous price for a lad who is an honest trier but nothing special; if he was that good Rotherham wouldn't be going down with a record low points total.

Wasn't it Solanke that wanted £50000 a week to stay at Chelsea?

Think so, he also wants more first team opportunities and Chelsea can't offer it to him at the mo.

There's also the small matter of compensation to consider if he's young and out of contract. He's very highly rated at Chelsea so it could be a huge risk that could potentially leave us crippled if we're obliged to pay a large amount by tribunal. I just can't see Wilder taking that risk.

For anyone who's totally given up on checking the Morsy thread (and nobody at all would blame you), it appears that he might be back on the radar!

Two different posters on Bladesmad saying the same thing:

silentjourneyhome:

"The first signs of the Summer are almost upon us. The sound of leather on willow, the first cuckoo of Spring, the first Sam Morsy thread of the close season.... so here it is.

A very good source tells me that Morsy was very close to coming on loan last season but at the last minute Barnsley found themselves cash rich due to a player sale. They were therefore able to offer the player and Wigan a better financial package. This, together with the lure of Championship football resulted in Morsy going to Barnsley instead.

However, we are still very interested and my source tells me that we have been back in touch. Nothing concrete yet but I understand that exploratory talks will begin at the end of the season.

The source is a Very reliable one, in fact that same one that told me Morsy would not be signing in the 2016/17 season when all the other rumours on here and S24 SU were to the contrary.

We will wait and see.

UTB"

handoblade:

"Morsy has been back at Wigan for a while now but not in the team every week. BTW heard exactly the same rumour about him last week, also from someone who gets good info."

I wouldn't be against it. We could do with a defensive midfield option, and he wouldn't expect to start every game.

This one looks done & dusted. Melchester legend Roy Race has signed for the Blades after being released by Rovers.

Latest is that we can't match his wage demands, he was the highest paid player at Melchester, so we are looking at these two brothers instead....

I have been very reliably informed that we have expressed an interest in Adam Le Fondre, but so have Bolton.

He can't be that well paid, he has to moonlight as HeMan

Shut the **** up, no a million times no. Would be OK if we were dropping into L1 not leaving it

I'd be a bit concerned if we were seriously considering Le Fondre to be honest.

It would indicate a low budget and reduce the chances of us signing an exciting type of striker.

Wouldn't be my first choice but is a proven finisher. I'd certainly prefer him to Done and McNulty but Utd would still need another striker, ideally with pace

With Burton facing relegation would you rather they go down and open up potential signings for us? Players we chased at the start of the season McFadzean and Jackson Irvine, or prefer they stay up and will potentially be battling for relegation next season?

As long as FLN is in charge there I want them to go down.

That said, I did consider a scenario where we can send them/him down on the last day of next season.... that's a pretty irresistible prospect!

I don't think they have any players we should/will go for. I'd want better than McFadzean, and for what Irvine would cost, and considering what we already have in midfield, I don't see us paying for him.

Not done every page but Nahki Wells from Huddersfield would be my number one target. Would compliment Billy or play alongside a big man. Wouldn't be easy to get but if Huddersfield went up I think they would offload.

Latest from Alan Nixon...

@reluctantnicko heard anything on SUFC's aims for next season now that promotion is secured? Consolidation or straight in as a challenger

Alan Nixon‏@reluctantnicko Apr 9
Need to strengthen to stay up. Already looking at a few. Striker or two. Midfield. First crack at lining up deals helps a lot.

Dec@decriles Apr 9
Any names? Danny Ward at Rotherham has been bandied around...

Alan Nixon‏@reluctantnicko Apr 9
Sam Gallagher is one.

Cheers. Saw your piece about Leonard from Southend too.

That's a live one. Good player. Wilder will go for solid types. And then poss a splash or two. Good times.

So he's maintaining that Gallagher's in the frame, which is good. It seems like something might be happening with Leonard. The 'splash or two' comment is interesting. That would probably mean at least one signing at £1m+. Maddison could be one of those.

As for Gallagher, he's gone off the boil a bit at Blackburn according to a Rovers fan who replied. For me that's definitely a good thing - it will make him more attainable, maybe even on a permanent deal. He's still young, there's nothing to suggest he couldn't perform for a full season next time around, especially in a (hopefully) better team.

McFadzean's record, if Burton go down, will be two relegations in two seasons, which does not inspire confidence, even if he is a Blade.

Patrick Bamford might be worth a try on loan.

That said he has barely done anything in the top flight but he can score at Championship level.

Miles and miles out of our price range. Was on £45k/week whilst on Chelsea's books

Brett pitman? Was decent while he was at bourmouth. Not really been given a chance at Ipswich
