I was at the Lane last night to greet the players back from Northampton and having watched Leon Clarke being mobbed whilst singing United songs alongside fans before Caolan Lavery had to be escorted inside by 7+ stewards as the fans wouldn't let him go (he was the last player to go inside by a good few minutes as seemingly every Blade wanted a piece of him)..
On the way home, I got thinking about the players that have played for both us & them and there seems to be far more (in my 27 years) that have gone from blue to red and another thing that's striking is how well thought of and quickly accepted they are by our fans.
Bromby, the Quinn clan, Geary and Bradshaw were all very popular and Rich Cresswell also did well. Leon Clarke was far from a crowd favourite but the two previous games have rocketed him up the adoration-ladder and the images of him singing "we are Blades" haven't done him any harm.
Jon-Paul McGovern went that way after us and did well, but Keith Treacy failed to pull any trees up at either club.
Of course we are more of a every-day man's, working class club than them lot but isn't it funny that more players come to us after them and more often than not, get on well.
