Would Wilder Be Tempted

At the moment CW is without doubt the hottest English manager in the football league. Two promotions and almost two Titles in 2 years. All within a budget and all with good football.

Could any club tempt him away?
 



The Lad has got his dream job,provided he is supported by the powers that be,who dont take him for granted because he is a United supporter,then no i dont think he could be tempted by any English team,however Barca or Real Madrid,he might have to think twice.

He mentioned in Goals on Sunday he was delighted to be offered the job but it wasnt a job he craved or obsessed about getting, if it happened it happened.

Don't forget 6 months in the Championship and a relegation fight could quite easily turn the fickle fans on Wilder (or any manager), he'd be stupid not to look after number 1 if an established PL club came in for him, outside of that i doubt he'd leave us within the next few years.

Broadly speaking , I'm inclined to agree with you on this . But PL thinking in terms of management appointments does appear to be changing . Leicester and Middlesborough are good examples of this change , as were Hull at the beginning of the season with Mike Phelan . Add to this Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche and I believe we are beginning to see PL clubs being more prepared to give relatively unproven managers a chance .

Another good season next year for us and I wouldn't be at all surprised if a PL club came calling ! Whether he'd go or not is an entirely different question though .

Last summer Wilder probably thought the Sheffield United job is the hottest job around for him...

Scroll forwards to April 2017, against Coventry he has a side almost full of his signings, bringing Clarke, O'Shea and Carruthers off the bench, all three signed by him, Goals to win the game from Fleck and Clarke, high fiving his fellow Blade and dedicated Captain as he came off, 24000 Blades chanting his name after he dived to celebrate with his boys, Basham and Freeman front and centre in that celebration, two players who's careers Wilder has rescued. Promotion almost confirmed in season one, Baki tweeting videos of Wilder, McCabe and Prince making plans for next season, Season ticket sales going through the roof from previous seasons, sell out away attendances and 7-10,000 potentially travelling to the final away game...in League 1

Now i'm not saying that Wilder would never take a better job, but in less than one year, it looks like Wilder has cut his own path and what a reward he's getting from every direction.

The man has ambition, the man has drive, the man has determination to go far... What's to say that beyond infinite resources, he can't achieve everything he wants to at Sheffield United?
 
Of course he could!!!

Say after 10 games we are doing well, and Sunderland are looking for a new manager. They will triple/quadruple his wages as a starting point. Then begin to negotiate on anything else he would want.

This could happen at any amount of clubs Villa ,QPR etc.

We have to be realistic he wouldn't jump ship to go to Preston etc. But there are so teams in the championship miles bigger than us.

That's why we need to get him to sign a contract extension with improved figures for himself.

I'm not so sure Tunny.
Managers at that level seem to be more focussed on the latest 'systems' and recruiting players to fit.
I think part of Tufty's no-nonsense style works at lower level, but can't see it translating to over-paid mega stars who might just rebel.
The mega-rich chairmen would be more likely to bin Tufty than see their cash-cow merchandise sellers hit the road because they don't fit with Wilder's way of doing things.
 
Initially its down to the board to make sure hes on proper wages.
Thats a good starting point for Mr Mcabe.

KM has got the right man, he knows it...... he will back Chris Wilder 100% because he trusts him..(and he'd be stupid not to)... imagine if CW walked because he wasn't backed in the transfer market!!? I can't imagine that happening..

The gaffer came in and was more ruthless than I thought he would be..
He's worked to his budget, got rid of some high earners and brought in some great players..

KM has dropped some right bollox over the years (robson, timing of the sackings of Blackwell and Clough who should have gone before.. sacking of Wilson who should have gone at the end of the season if he hadn't got us up).. but the appointments of Weir n Adkins were fantastic on paper, he must have banged his head against the wall with them two!!!!! .. he's now got the right man....

We and the chairman have got to remember that if we struggle next season we have to stick together... no knee jerk reaction from him and no booing in matches.. no one would be hurting more than Chris Wilder but there would be no one I'd trust more to get it right!!

Can't see it happening, reckon he will get a much deserved wage rise, he's adored by fans, players and the board. Living in his own City near family and mates doing his dream job and looking like he will be facing a good challenge at the highest division he's managed at next season.

Money can buy many things, but who in their right mind would leave all that above to manage a Villa or Sunlan??

I'd like to think not, but we would only really know the answer was he to be made offers. Bottom line is, it's his career and how many of us would turn down the offer to improve our careers if the offer was right - if we're brutally honest with ourselves.
 
Where does he stand in the list of past managers for us?

Bassett was the first manager I remember and for me Wilder is rapidly catching up him despite Harry's prolonged success for us.

And it may be harsh, but he's already eclipsed Warnock (simply by virtue of likeability adding to his managerial ability). So, a top 5 of lifetime managers would be...

1) Bassett
2) Wilder (very close to the above)
3) Warnock
4) Wilson
5) errrm.... Thompson?

Tempted yes but for the time being I don't see him jumping ship just yet. He has everything going for him here and everything has fallen into place.

He does seem to like a challenge though and whilst next season with the Blades will give him that, further forward he may want something new. Couple that with an eye watering wage rise and who knows?

Think we will be ok for the short term, at least.
 
On the other hand, Simon Grayson has got Blackpool, Leeds and Preston promoted from L1 and currently has Preston in the top half of the Championship and hasn't been linked with any big clubs.

I don't think for one minute a PL club would go for him. Not a big enough name yet and they tend to go for foreign managers. The only English managers in the PL are those that have taken clubs up, like Dyche and Howe or in-house appointments like Shakespear.

Similarly, any club that goes down from the PL will look to managers with a track record of success at that level, like Bruce, Lambert, Hughton, or a foreign manager like Zola, Zenga.

Any of the rest just won't be attractive to CW at this stage in his career; Ipswich, Forest, Derby etc. No, just can't see it unless our owners take the piss.

I think you're getting a bit carried away putting Wilder above Warnock at the moment! Kendall was better than Wilson imo
 
I think the only teams in England that he would join are
1. Manure
2. City
3. Chelsea
4. Arsenal
5. Spurs
6. Everton
7. Southampton

I dont think any of those clubs would go for him in the summer. The only clubs out of those that would even take a chance on Wilder if he were to get promoted to the PL are Everton and Southampton.

I cant see him leaving for any other PL team (Wet Spam, Burnley, Hull etc) and I cant see him leaving for any Championship team. Unless circumstances change within the club

I guess thats the benefit of have a passionate, committed FAN as the manager.
