Sharp. Clarke. Hanson. Lavery.
Maybe a new signing, but assuming those 4,what's the story morning glory?
All I'd throw in there is Lavery IMO is a must start.

No disrespect, as I've defended him a bit so far, but Clarke is one I'd look to move on if possible. Not a bad squad player but we ought to look to do better. Hanson is our only real target man and will have a place in the squad. Basically, we'll be looking for that elusive striker that every other team in the world wants: height, pace, and goals.

I personally think Clarke & Hanson were both brought in to fill a specific role to get us out of the division, and that one of the two (probably Clarke) will be shifted on in the summer. McNulty will be let go and I think we'll see two new strikers come in – both of whom may end up being first choice.

One thing for sure is we need strikers who will score goals.
Sharp is barren and not one goal in at least 4 games has come from a striker bar Clarke v Coventry.
I don't think Wilder will view ANY of the aforementioned 4 as first choice next season.
I wouldn't.

We need at least 1 younger player in our forward line, Lavery is 24 but the other 3 are 29, 31 and 32.

To me the reason Barnsley have had a good season is due to having plenty of mid 20s and younger players.

That's an area we could improve on, signing some young pacey players.

It will be interesting to see who goes and who comes in,but I do like Lavery, and wouldn't be confident in a Sharp/Hanson partnership causing enough problems to Championship defences to be honest,so yes I'd go for Lavery to start.

Agree.
Being hungry and black would also be a bonus. And maybe French.

If Leeds don't accept our 500k for Chris Wood we could offer Köln £1m for Anthony Modeste - he was on my black and French list before he was famous.

What about a cheeky bid for Danny Ward?

Scored goals early doors this season in a dreadful team. Reckon he could thrive with the likes of Fleck and Carruthers behind him and possibly partner well with Sharp.

He could also avoid moving house, which we all know is a pain in the arse at the best of times ;)

Cameron Jerome would be perfect IMO. But Norwich would never sell him as he's the only striker injury free.

I think we should put a loan bid in for Carlton Morris, Norwich U23 but has been playing for Rotherham. Delia's crew really rate him and perfect level to be at.

Both partly match the black, French and pacey criteria.

Would be an incredible signing. Maybe a bridge too far,but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Are you genuinely dismissing a striker who has fired us to promotion with 26 league goals this season?

Just out of interest how many games without scoring does it take for him to be classed as barren? 2? 3? Or is 4 the threshold?

Looking forward to Tyler Durden arriving in 3,2,1.....

You'd be mad to dismiss Sharp, the great thing about him is that his game doesn't rely on pace, but is a fairly smart player with an instinct for goals. I don't think Sharp would be able to sustain 46 Championship game, he's put in an amazing amount of effort this season and we're starting to see that Wilder is giving him a little bit of rest time towards the end of games.

Hanson coming in has taken a lot of physical pressure off Sharp.

But heres the thing, Billy is perhaps the first name on the team sheet, but if we're playing a lone striker, you'd probably want Hanson in some games as he gives us an option to be more direct - Oldham and perhaps Coventry sounded like that a little. If teams think you'll go physical and direct, they set up this way. You can then exploit them on the deck.

I'd assume that we want a physical, pacey centre forward next year, A younger Clarke might fit this bill, but a decent pre season and perhaps he has something to offer.

Whilst Billy doesn't fit the two roles above, he'll certainly be a very good goalscorer in the Championship.

Two new strikers for me if we go up. We can't rely on Sharp (that's not to say he won't do it).

Yep, that's the way I see it, he has assembled a strike force to get out of this division. That's not to say they couldn't perform a level up but I'd be surprised.

Let's do something simple, Chris wanted 6 strikers this year. I cannot imagine him wanting less next season. The first 2 to go I would guess would be McNulty and Done.

So I would imagine we are in for at least 2 maybe 3 if CW offloads one.

Some good suggestions above, I don't want any young loan players for every Abraham there's 100 rubbish ones and we cannot take that risk this year.

Gallagher been mentioned think he's around 10 goals and so has Danny Ward. Both good age, good size with speed. Think we could do a lot worse than sign these. Whoever CW signs I will be 100% behind.

Can see CW trying to get Bogle. Only signed a 2.5 year deal and if Wigan go down they're in financial dire straights as this is the last season of parachute payments for them..

He will be available this summer should they go down.

The first thing to address for next season imo is the lack of pace

Pace and top class strikers are what separate the top sides from the struggling sides

We have a competitive midfield

Yes, I'm sure BS will score goals next season, but trying to be realistic and not disrespectful to Billy, he won't get anywhere near this seasons goal tally. A proven 20 goal Championship striker would be great. Anyone know where we can get one for £1m or less? :(

Striker(s) (proven/pace)
CB/defender (pacey)
wide player (loads of pace)
Back up goal keeper (pace not required :) )

I think the main difference between each division these days is the extent to which they feature footballers with power, pace and athleticism. I think we will need some injection of each of these three qualities, throughout the side, and certainly up top.

What's Bill's record like, in the Champ ?

Why can't we rely on a striker who's scored 26 goals this season in a system that works for him? 10Million for Rhodes or 500k for Sharp, not exactly a cheap alternative... More likely the other options out there will be extremely expensive for not much better

I'd stick with Hanson. Why wouldn't you ?

UTB

Again, like i said before on Sharp, you'd be daft not to work with Hanson. Decent player and fits our system

For me Clarke and mcnulty defiantly need to go, Hanson may be a handy squad player as I can't see his wages being much. But think we need 2 new strikers, one being the main man in the team to get most of the goals

He isn't scoring or playing well for Wigan. He scored 2 on his debut and only a penalty since.

Maybe so but he has what it takes. And as it stands I'd back wilder to get he best out of him without an issue.

Personally believe we are going to have to take a series of gambles in order to compete, we can't go after Championship proven even if we can afford it I doubt we can compete in terms of the draw that say Sunderland would offer. Not this summer anyway.

Players who looked handy in the lower leagues and the u23s of the top teams. Build a team around players people fancy but aren't confident about relying on.
