Ok, how much were Port Vale damaged after Clayton McDonald got cleared? Of course the chants were odious, I've already acknowledged that on this thread. Unfortunately such chants and worse are sung at every football club by the loud idiotic 1%. How was his legal behavior misogynistic? Plenty of female fans supported Evans (ok hard to make a poll on that but most would agree) If one of the Sheffield Ladies players did what he did does it mean she has a hatred for men?
---
He was drunk tired and it was 5am, as well as not naturally being very clever. Most probably would have made the same mistake in similar circumstances, OJ Simpson is one such example.

If I'm an architect and I did what Evans did am I an unprofessional architect? Why do we hold footballers at a higher moral level? This is probably where a lot of problems comes from...

You or Clayton McDonald didn't score goals for Sheffield United .

He fancied a fuck , it all went wrong . The club who paid his wages were the party who felt it more than anybody .

Footballers don't live by normal rules . The higher up the food chain you go the worst it gets .

Why are we even talking about him anyway . New Vera series is on

It all went wrong because he was wrongly convicted, I'm sure he felt it more than anybody as he was public enemy number one for four years and was in jail for two of them. Yes we were highly affected, but only for the same reason he was.

The point about Clayton is that being charged and cleared doesn't damage the reputation of a football club. His behavior is not 'unprofessional.' He is paid to perform on the pitch and act within the law, he did both of those things as confirmed.

We're going round in circles. If you can't see how his behaviour and that of his mate didn't display a disrespectful view of women then there is no point continuing this discussion.
Songs attacking the girl were sung more as a result of this, that's also a fact, and were reported by the media.
The girl was also attacked verbally by "football fans" fans who were reported as being Blades whether they were or not, blaming her for this, which again didn't logically fit with the fact of her not claiming rape or remembering. Again this was widely reported in the media as a reflection on our club.

If you were a poster boy for your firm, with merchandising and national media attention then yes negative stories being reported about your behaviour which impact the club would be considered unprofessional.
If your job meant that your firm would always be mentioned, more than even yourself, and directly affected by negative publicity then again yes it would. It would also mean that you would likely to paid a premium as a result and expected to behave appropriately.
This really is going nowhere, you've made your points and I've made mine, I think anyone reading this thread can come to their own conclusions of its contents, and I've no wish to keep repeating myself.

If he hadn't behaved like an absolute prat in that hotel in the summer of 2011 he would have been sold to a championship side that summer, someone around the level of Ipswich, and he may have struggled once again to make an impact at that level.

He would have been a footnote in our history barely thought about these days.

I am now heartily sick of hearing about him.

I doubt it was him planning to take legal action against us, but if it was a real story I imagine we'd have heard about it by now, probably was just needless tabloid speculation.

Its a shame, in any other circumstance getting 35 goals in a season to lead us to promotion would usually be enough to be considered a hero. His performances merited it, the system failed him and us, so he's not a hero and is pretty much irrelevant like all our former players are.

I for one will be enjoying each and every game like the rest of you :)

Edit: Though Tyler, when successful ex-players return don't we acknowledge them some way? If so he deserves a polite round of applause when his name is called out, don't know why he should be treated any differently. Of course odious chants are to be avoided.

He got it at Chesterfield away. That should be it. This is Sheffield United 2017. He has no part in it. Neither has your fixation with him.

I don't where the heck you looked it up but its a mistake on your part.

Its also a mistake to call people who you don't know and know little of, insulting names.

You on the high horse . I will rod, beer that

It wasn't aimed at you by the way . Apologies if it came over like that

Fucking hell this thread is trapped in a time loop.

It's really simple

Cause > effect

Not

Cause > the effect was wrong, blame the effect.

The central topic of the thread is 'should we be extra nice to Ched Evans when they play us?' The unanimous answer has been 'should we bollocks'.

There we go.

I only wonder how he'll feel on that day seeing Billy being hero worshipped. I t will be so depressing for him and if Chesterfield are serious about keeping him they need to protect their employee.
Had we not been top of the leauge , some peoples opinions would have been very different .
As for this:rolleyes: If it was any other player who played for SUFC during that time that it happened to you would not five years on give a toss.

At last some fucking straight forward common sense

But we are top, so focus on facts rather than what isn't.

I don't recall any other team of significance trying to sign Evans, so perhaps the penny has dropped and it's obvious that the one time prolific scorer has seen better days.

And the fact that whilst we've already had a highly prolific goal scorer and consumate professional up front for the past two seasons, we've had to endure a load of boneheads squealing "sign Ched" all the time. Like he's a divine answer to a problem that doesn't even fucking exist.

I’d say it was more just a case of fans wanting to sign what they considered a good player who would be available for relatively little. As it happens, his fitness hasn’t been where it needed to be and his early promise for Chez hasn’t developed. I was one of those that wanted us to sign him but have no problem saying I was wrong and Wilder has done excellent business in ensuring we have plenty of goals in our team to complement the excellent Billy Sharp.

I wonder, if we’d signed him on his release (when we had fuck all up front) whether he would have been effective (after 2.5 years out of the game as opposed to 4). But it doesn’t matter now, we are finally getting to where we need to be.

But if we’re talking Ched storylines, how about this. It’s 1-1 going into the final minute of injury time. The blades get a corner. It’s whipped in and after a scramble, the ball breaks to Ched who has the opportunity to boot it clear but instead, he turns round and smashes the ball into the roof of his own net. He then rips off his chesterfield kit to reveal a blades one underneath. He walks to the dugout, delivers a stone-cold stunner to substitute Daniel Jones who flops around like a fish out of water (like after Higdon’s challenge) then disappears into the South stand.

Remember the whole getting sent to jail at the end of the season thing?

That.

For actions committed the previous season whilst he was out injured. A conviction which would eventually be overturned. The only thing you could say he did to “de-rail our promotion bid” was being shit on the witness stand.

Agree with that. At this level, he was an absolutely fantastic player for us and but for a wrongful conviction, would have shot us to promotion and been revered for many years. He hasn’t covered himself in glory off the pitch (but let’s face it, he’s had a harsh punishment serving 2.5 years and being out of football for 4 years for a crime he ultimately was acquitted of). Nothing wrong with acknowledging a player who was excellent for us. I’m sure if we line up against Maguire, Lowton, Walker, Jags etc. in the future, we will give them a round of applause.

I didn't even realise he'd had a shit on the witness stand so thanks for bringing that to my attention.

I like him even less now.

To almost quote Sergeant Wilko, will everybody who is concentrating on us now stand over to the right and smile those who are still looking back over five years stand on the left stop crying and then shut the fuck up about Ched Evans.

Other games before Chessie and FM is on his third box of tissues already.

He scored 9 league goals the year we went down.

He was acknowledged at Chesterfield away. To be honest, after all my years watching United and only seeing them lift the 4th Division title, (hopefully)lifting the 3rd will be utmost on my mind that day and I'll be applauding everyone to do with our club and won't give Ched a second thought, heartless though I am.

I can beat that, Babestation have brought out the "A" team today.

I'd say that's not bad for a 21 year old in an awful team going down when he missed the last couple of months of the season through injury. It's more than anyone else in our squad managed. Better than 1 goal every 4 games. Better than most of the strikers we've had in the last 10 years (Sharp and Beattie apart).
