He was acknowledged at Chesterfield away. To be honest, after all my years watching United and only seeing them lift the 4th Division title, (hopefully)lifting the 3rd will be utmost on my mind that day and I'll be applauding everyone to do with our club and won't give Ched a second thought, heartless though I am.

That's fair enough. Come the final whistle, I won't be thinking of him but IF he plays and his name is called out, he will get the applause that I would give any returning player who did well for us. I even gave Ryan Flynn half hearted applause a couple of weeks ago FFS.

For actions committed the previous season whilst he was out injured. A conviction which would eventually be overturned. The only thing you could say he did to “de-rail our promotion bid” was being shit on the witness stand.
Wouldn't he have an obligation to contact the club when something like this happens? That's usually the case. Then they'd have advised him not to speak to the law without taking advice from counsel and have a solicitor present during his interview.

I have no idea. I was merely making the point that the action on his part was committed whilst we were wimpering out of the championship. Some seem misguided into thinking he did it whilst we were on the verge of promotion from the way they speak about it.

True, if he'd not have been charged due to lack of evidence (which may have been the case if he'd taken legal advice before opening his mouth) he probably would have been sold at the end of the season and wouldn't have any part in our promotion campaign.

It seems that people are determined to write history in the way they'd like it, to blame our failure to get promoted in 2012 on one individual.

Pretty poor as well as logically wrong in my book, but once you're of that disposition you are unlikely to persuaded otherwise. If Jagielka returned I doubt he wouldn't get applauded for 'relegating' us, so like I said it would be appropriate (though certainly not compulsory) for Ched to be acknowledged when his name is called out as he was a successful former footballer.

Then that should be the end of it really.

This thread hadn't been commented on for 24 hours and you've dragged it back up again. It's about time you let your pet obsession die.

As you'll notice when you click on my profile, I only comment on things in one go when I am back online rather than continuously, believe it or not I do have a life outside of here xd

I didn't start the thread of course, merely commented on it like the rest of you have, so is it the end for everyone else?

Admins should move the thread to off topic IMO

Agree with that. At this level, he was an absolutely fantastic player for us and but for a wrongful conviction, would have shot us to promotion and been revered for many years. He hasn’t covered himself in glory off the pitch (but let’s face it, he’s had a harsh punishment serving 2.5 years and being out of football for 4 years for a crime he ultimately was acquitted of). Nothing wrong with acknowledging a player who was excellent for us. I’m sure if we line up against Maguire, Lowton, Walker, Jags etc. in the future, we will give them a round of applause.

No-one can conclusively prove he would have shot us to promotion if not convicted. Despite his goals he was poor in a few games, including at the Pigs when we bottled the second half.

For all we know Evans could have done his hamstring after 5 minutes at MK.

Beattie missing a sitter, us being unable to beat Stevenage at home all did happen however.

There's many if buts and maybes with Ched. If the Police then CPS hadn't been keen to prosecute then he wouldn't even been at the club after August, January at the latest.

He should be consigned to failed recent history.

Fuck him.

Not fit to lace the boots of any of our all conquering squad.

What I am going to do? Clap him to say thanks for the memories?!

No-one can ever conclusively prove what would have happened in an alternative scenario as we don’t get to see if played out but it’s an entirely sensible prediction based on the evidence available.

He’s in the past but so are many ex players who will get a decent reception from me and many other blades.

He was (relative to the level he was playing at), one of the best players to wear the shirt in my lifetime. That doesn’t cease to be because of a wrongful conviction.

Evans must take responsibility for his own stupidity and certainly bears some of the blame for our failure to be promoted in 2012, however, the Board must bear the same amount of responsibility as well.

The Board were aware of the Court Appearance, were aware that he may be going on holiday at her majesty's pleasure, however they failed to ensure that we had an appropriate replacement available if that happened .......

I remain convinced that we would have been promoted if he hadn't been jailed and we would have been spared the last 5 years of purgatory in this agricultural Division ..... o_O
