Manchester United winger Lee Martin is on his way to Birmingham City in a £1.5 million deal.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has a queue of admirers for the speedy attacker, who starred on the club's pre-season tour of South Africa, but he is keen for him to join McLeish ... one of his favourite sons, says the People.

Martin is due to sever his Old Trafford links this week after previous loan spells at Rangers, Plymouth and Sheffield United.

We were talking about this yesterday at the Open Day... I think Cotterill was expensive at ~£2million and he is more of a finished article than Martin.

Silly money I think.

Have to agree Linz. Much as I liked him, and he has speed, promise, blah blah blah, he didn't look like he was worth that much. And that's taking into consideration that I thought he actually played OK at Hellsbore.

I must admit, I wasn't overly impressed with Martin as I have posted before.

Watch him rip us to shit on Sat.!

Accurate as ever from The Sun, if we were to sign him i do think it would only be on loan. Can't see us wanting to spend much on him.

So accurate they got his current club wrong. :)

I thought Blackwell said we would have the first crack unless someone came in with an excessive bid?

we might have, but maybe we dont want him now
i do think blackwell has an ace up his sleeve but hes keeping it close to his chest, but i dont think it will be martin tbh

Agreed! He commented after the game on Saturday about a 'couple of areas that need strengthening' but wouldnt reveal anything perhaps not to alert any rivals.

Think these 'areas' may be CM and/or CB after Tongues lack-lustre performance and Morgans inability to restrain the strength in his feet to a simple 10-yard pass.

So however disappointed I was after the Brum game I hold some confidence in Blackie to strengthen the squad further and bag us 3 points on Saturday!

UTB!

He has signed for forest on loan

Nottingham Forest have completed the loan signing of Manchester United winger Lee Martin.

The 21-year-old is set to go straight into the Reds' side for the Carling Cup first round tie against Morecambe.

Martin's two United appearances have been in the same competition but he is arriving at the City Ground with plenty of league experience.

He has previously had loan spells with Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth and, most recently, Sheffield United.
