CONFIRMED James Hanson leaves the club

People are looking into next season, if Hanson is leading the line etc. Chris will sign the best players available to him.

He then will see them in pre-season training / games and whoever is the best will play.

CW isn't a manager who will play players due to reputation or that he thinks he has too, whoever the best strikers are come August this year will start. I wouldn't worry about it.

Wilder signed Clarke and Lavery to help us get out of L1 and be good enough to contribute at the next stage if it happened anytime soon.

Wilder signed Hanson for the run-in half knowing we are going up.

They are all on term contracts.

I'd suggest in pecking order, those likely to contribute in the Championship are: 1. Hanson 2. Clark 3. Lavery.

Of the three though Lavery might just develop over the term of his contract whereas the other two are at or beyond their peak.

I honestly believe the current strikeforce of four is good enough for the Championship. If we spend big on a new striker always remember we will get our money back for Clark and Hanson, perhaps not Lavery just now.

Rewind to August 16 . Glad me and thee were wrong about us becoming relegation fodder :)

We were bottom of the league - the table didn't lie at the time. - that's a fact.

The fact CW changed things dramatically in personnel and formation resulted in where we are now. Also a fact. We should be pleased, that CW took a long hard look at himself, his players and his team (in that 7 to 10 day period, as he commented on) and dramatically altered his thought processes. It takes a very brave person to own up to mistakes and have the courage to alter.

There is no evidence to suggest we would be where we are now, had the team stayed the same, Only speculation and opinion.

But very very pleased that we are.

It is sad that posters are criticised for actually wanting better - which is where this original post started.

The apparent rule of the forum is not to play the poster - Silent kicked off the latest issue by doing just that. Is the word "hater" really justified? My opinion is that it isn't. Actually surprised that silent has laid himself open to it, to be honest.

As for metal - he has responded to being lumped in a post with the word "hater" - what would you do in similar circumstances? defend yourself or crawl under a stone as metal suggests?

There is no evidence whatsoever that the posters called out, hate Hanson - they don't - it really is as simple as that - unless you can justify the post with hate in it and want to defend it yourself?

Couldn't put it better myself, absolutely spot on. I suspect silent posted to get a reaction from certain people well he succeeded he can either live with it if he gets a bit back or retract his statement.
I'm sure silent can defend himself without the help of so called cronies so I'm not sure who the fook Tunstall Fred thinks he is ............. forum police/stalker? Did you get a ban and come back with a different name TF or have you forgot again? Of course Tunstall knows all about personal abuse must hurt him that he daren't call me a Wanchor as he knows I'll report him so he has to stalk my every post and cosy up to anyone with a different opinion bless him

I do believe it is an area we will strengthen.

I believe Clarke, Done, McNulty will all be on there way one way or another.

So I can imagine space for 1 if not 2 strikers coming in. Lavery has played there before with some limited success.

IMO it's not the attack or midfield we require to strengthen its the defence . I do not think we are strong enough , but hope he doesn't bring in the ex blade from Burton .

Talking of Burton , Brayford could do a job for us in the championship , but could be down to his wages if he goes or stays . No idea how long he has left on his contract.

Do we also require some pace into the side . I think we do .

A lot of if , buts and maybes , but it's the defence for me to be strengthened , as first priority in preseason .

yep, agree with this. It is always hard on a promotion team that some aren't going to be good enough, but progress means we can't rely on sentiment.
To risk getting jumped on again - EEL can go back - he has his limits which have been highlighted and primarily since he signed his new Wolves contract.
2 x CH's for me (either in a 2 or 3 CH partnership) and just wonder whether CW will introduce a defensive type midfield player, even though he is not keen on that type of label. We are going to have to be solid, particularly away from home.

You clearly are bothered otherwise you would not reply,i would venture the sad person is you, with the personal abuse directed at Silent, absolutely no need for you to say such a thing about him,no need at all.

Emulate Blackpool,ha ha ha ha ha

I thought his movement was good on Saturday, got in good positions, and if it wasn't for last ditch defending/Fleck joining in he'd have scored at the back post in the first half. He tracks back, causes defenders all kind of hassle (not just with his strength).

However, his finishing leaves something to be desired sometimes and does seem to be blowing after 60 mins or so.

In some games (possibly most games) Lavery would be a better option as his pace causes loads of problems and he has scored more goals. But Hanson does what he needs to do when it is needed.

Hanson like Carruthers and O,shea is not at the same fitness level of the rest, next season they will be at same level hopefully

Hanson knows what he is and so do our coaching staff,he was brought in to help get the job done .He's a 2 year contract so I would expect him to be around next season ,his physical presence will be useful in the championship as all centre backs hate playing against big physical centre forwards. Every promotion throws up some surprisus Hanson might be one, but let's Write him off anyway.
He's a good pro and if he and Wilder feel he can t do a job he will be off to pastures new with our best wishes, but as I said earlier he might surprise a few.

I think even at the level above, he could have Chief nuisance value as a sub to chuck on when chasing a goal and lobbing balls in the box. I’m not convinced he can be much more than that for us.

I disagree with that assessment. Clarke has struggled to make an impact, is in his 30s and has been plagued by injury. I don’t think we’d be getting any money back for him and at best, someone might take over his contract whereas I think Lavery shows some real promise and as you say, is the only one young enough to develop.

I’d already be starting Lavery more often than those 2 at this level (with Hanson as plan B or to start the odd away game on awful pitches like this Saturday).

Agree. I think if we play 2 up top next season it will be Sharp and a new signing as our first choice pair with Hanson and Lavery on the bench.

I think it’s fairly likely that we’ll do some sort of deal seeing Brayford to Burton with McFadzean coming the other way. If we bring in McFadzean and Gregory our bladeyness will go through the roof!

Problem might be if we bring in 2 and play a back 4, where does that leavue O’Connell? I’m convinced this lad has a bright future at the club and is one of those who can improve with us and be a championship regular. For me, I’d focus on bringing in 1 top notch CB who combines the physicality of EEL/O’Connell with the excellent organisation and concentration of Jake Wright. If we play a back 4 that leaves Wright and Basham able to deputise for O Connell and the new man. If a back 3, one of those 2 to come in alongside.

I have a feeling Basham will make himself a regular next season. He seems the type of player not really expected to make the step up but because of his workrate and versatility, I think he will continue to be deemed an asset.

Always remember when WWF told Silent to listen to something on the radio . Yes one rule for one .

John Dorey is a favourite . Could be a good signing .

In his defence, I’m pretty sure, he didn’t know Silent was deaf. That was the first I’d heard of it too and remember being momentarily confused by the fallout.

Agreed, he clearly didn't know.

I do think Woodward fan cops for a fair amount of general stick on here, which does seem a bit OTT. But then again I've not read much of his stuff.

At the end of the day we're all Unitedites - we dream the same dream, we want the same thing.

You always seem to want to pick an 11 ,it has to be fluid and we have to have a squad of minimum 20 first team players ,very rarely can you pick an 11 and stick to it. Absolutely no point in picking a first 11 ,any club.

Didn't he excommunicate you over your "hatred" for Louis Reed?
Ha ha, forgot about that. I think Reed isnt a bad player but found it amusing when WWF never stops saying that Wilder is making a big mistake for not including Reed in the 1st team and being quite obsessive just like when he made hints that Clough is a "racist". Ok, I admit winding him up when he talks about Reed

"Mr Sheffield United", as he originally called him, racist? OMG!

We all wind each other up . That's what a family does . Great to be a blade , just wish WWF was a fucking Wednesdayite and did his bidding on Porktalk - joke :D

At least when they kiss the badge we know they actually mean it:cool:

League One and Championship football are two different things. There are at least 3 or 4 regular starters I wouldn't want anywhere near the starting XI next season.
I appreciate the difference in the quality of the leagues. That goes without saying surely. I doubt Hanson will be a starter next season. But if he is, I'm cool with that. It will only be because he and we are doing fine with him included..As it happens we could possibly need an upgrade on all of our strikers next season if we're in the Championship (including, dare I say it...no I daren't )..But for the same reason, it's nowt to fret about when you know you've got a proper manager making the decisions ☺...UTB
